At least a portion of the gap is at least partially filled with a resilient material so that the moldboard is able to resiliently flex into the gap during heavy snow removal while preventing the gap from being filled with foreign matter including ice otherwise preventing desired flexing of the moldboard.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1998Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Assignee: The Louis Berkman CompanyInventor: Robert V. Patent number: 6035478Abstract: A mounting for a rotary broom on a skid steer loader has a bracket that is attached to a frame plate that mounts on the front attachment plate of the skid steer loader. The front attachment plate can be tilted about a horizontal axis through the use of a tilt cylinder on the skid steer loader. The bracket is in turn pivotally mounted about a horizontal axis adjacent the top of the frame plate, and the weight of the broom, and the mounting bracket tending to pivot the lower portion of the bracket toward the frame plate is counterbalanced by a pair of compression springs on the lower part of the bracket, which react force or movement loads back to the frame plate. In this way, the counterbalancing springs are kept low, out of sight, and out of the way.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1998Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Clark Equipment CompanyInventors: Darin T. Patent number: 5966846Abstract: An improved single stage snowthrower includes a housing with an open front portion, the housing including two side walls, a rear wall therebetween and a discharge chute. The rear wall includes deflecting ledges that angle upwardly toward the discharge chute, inwardly toward the center of the housing and forwardly toward the open front. The deflecting ledges provide both an inward and an upward component to snow travelling in the housing. The snowthrower also includes an impeller having axial ends and a radial edge. The impeller is comprised of two molded identical body sections that are joined about a shaft. Each body section includes a central portion, two end portions and a pair of helical portions with one helical portion between each end portion and the central portion. A portion of the radial edge of the impeller includes a shovel-like projection that is oriented in a direction extending laterally away from the impeller in the direction of rotation of the impeller.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1998Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Ariens CompanyInventors: Clarence L. Patent number: 5819443Abstract: A new snow removal apparatus for removing snow and other debris from travel surfaces. The inventive device includes an elongate frame member with a plurality of overlapping finger members extending from the frame member. The frame member is designed to be coupled to a vehicle or a mounting frame of a snowplow. The finger members are designed to adjust to an uneven surface to remove snow or debris therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1997Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Inventor: William L. Winter

Patent number: 5746017Abstract: A ploughshare (10) having cutting edges (2) and a securing device (4,5) for attachment to a plough (not shown). The ploughshare (10) has a number of individual metallic shares (6) which are firmly embedded in an elastomer mass 3. During use, each individual share (6) is independently moveable from the underlying surface against the elasticity in the mass (3) with a view to absorbing or adjusting itself to irregularities (wheel track wear) in the underlying surface. The share is mounted substantially vertical and is especially designed for equipment for clearing snow, slush and ice.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: Scana Staal ASInventor: Jostein Marvik

Patent number: 5743032Abstract: The object of the invention is a plough blade arrangement, advantageously in a snow-plough, which plough (1) is intended to be attached to a vehicle, advantageously a tractor or lorry. The plough blade arrangement includes a frame (2) consisting of a flat part removably attached to the plough (1), several blade plates (4) covering the desired working width, and attachment members for the blade plates (4) to the frame (2). The aforesaid attachment members consist of flexible members (3), which are arranged to permit the movement of the blade plates (4) essentially in only one direction in the direction of the surface of the frame (2) when the blade plate (4) strikes an obstacle or pit. In addition, the working width is divided into separate, independently flexible parts.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1995Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Inventor: Pertti Vauhkonen

Patent number: 5724755Abstract: A snow pusher includes a blade with horizontal and vertical reinforcing channels, a reversible and removable rubber edge fastened to the blade and extending below its bottom edge, and a side plate extending forward from each end of the blade. Each side plate includes a removable wear shoe with inclined ramps for sliding contact on the ground surface. Upper and lower rows of posts extend rearward from the blade to form a slot for insertion of a front end loader bucket. Connection is secured by a releasable chain.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1996Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Inventor: Michael P. Weagley

Patent number: 5720122Abstract: A plow blade assembly for clearing a surface during a plowing operation comprises a plow blade having a front and rear surface and a lower edge. The plow blade is pivotally supported on a support frame for movement between a forward and a retracted position. The plow blade is normally resiliently retained in the forward position. An actuator is flexibly connected to the plow blade so that the position of the blade can be selectively varied and maintained at a location between the forward and retracted positions.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Inventor: Jeffrey S. Patent number: 5697172Abstract: A snowplow mountable on a track or similar vehicle includes a displaceable trip edge that enables the plow to pass over trip hazards without transferring significant impact forces to the plow. The plow mold board includes one or more trip plates that are coupled to the mold board through compression spring elements and linkages. The linkages cause the trip edge to swing up and away from the pavement to avoid "undercutting" when a trip hazard is encountered. This helps keep the plow from jumping. The linkage also automatically reduces the moment arm defined by the compression spring element, the trip plate and the mold board so as substantially to compensate for an increasing restoring force generated by the compression spring member as it is progressively compressed. The trip plate can thereby be displaced over its entire range without significantly increasing the contact force between the trip plate and an encountered trip hazard.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1995Date of Patent: December 16, 1997Assignee: Schmidt Engineering & Equipment, Inc.Inventor: Jan Verseef
