Manually Powered Patents (Class 37/285)
  • Patent number: 4729199
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for the removal of accumulated snow loads from roofs. The apparatus comprises a plurality of upper and lower brackets affixable to a planar roof surface in spaced configuration thereon. Each bracket has one or more slots capable of receiving and retaining a wire. Actuation of the system by pulling a wire causes the wire to be released from the upper brackets, and to slice through an accumulated snow load, breaking the seal between the snow and the roof and resulting in the snow sliding off the roof.

  • Patent number: 4669206
Abstract: A manual snow clearing tool includes a snow clearing blade formed by an elongated rectangular strip of flexible material placed in a flexed state and a handle connected to the strip to restrain and maintain it in its flexed state in which it forms the blade in a generally parabolic configuration. The blade formed by the strip is disposed with its height dimension extending upright from, and its length dimension extending parallel to, a surface to be cleared of snow. Also, rear portions and a forward arcuate portion of the flexed strip together define a forward snow plowing portion and a snow gathering cavity which is open at its top, bottom and rear end. The handle has laterally spaced apart lower ends which connect the rear portions of the flexible strip so as to maintain the rear strip portions in spaced apart relation such that the strip and the blade formed thereby naturally assumes the parabolic curvature.

  • Patent number: 4607872
Abstract: A device for plowing snow is provided by the present invention. The device consists of a sheet material such as a board made of hard but resilient material having a tapered bottom edge and rounded bottom corners. A plurality of slots are located in the top portion of the sheet material and at least one slot is located at each side of the sheet member for grasping the device by hand. Hand grips are located in the top edges and bottom edges of the sheet member adjacent the slots to facilitate grasping and to prevent chafing of the edges of the device against the hands. The tapered bottom edge can be an integral part of the sheet member or an attachment press-fitted on the bottom edge of the device. Optionally a carrying strap may be mounted around the top slots to permit carrying the device to and from its place of storage and during use. A method for plowing snow using the device is also provided wherein the board is held and moved diagonally to the path to be cleared.

  • Patent number: 4597204
Abstract: A manual snow pusher comprises a resilient rubber blade connected along the base of a hood-like snow diverting member of galvanized metal plate. An elongate handle is pivotally attached to a latch plate at the back of the snow diverting member, allowing the angle of the handle relative to the length of the blade to be adjusted. The handle has a spring loaded pin which can be engaged in any one of a series of holes formed around the arcuate periphery of the latch plate in order to releasably secure the handle in a selected angular position.

  • Patent number: 4559726
Abstract: This invention relates to a snow handling equipment comprising a handle grip, a tubular handle, a blade slightly curved in cross section and rectangular in plan and a supporting device securing the blade to the handle. The supporting device allows the pivoting movement of the blade in a plane perpendicular with respect to the plane of the handle to allow the user to adjust the angle of the blade or turn the blade upside down in order to use either edge of the blade to scrape the snow.

  • Patent number: 4538847
Abstract: A pivotable multiple socket for shovels comprising a rotatable socket member to receive the end of a shovel handle, the socket member being in the form of an adapter which itself seats in and is removable from the permanently mounted socket of the shovel blade, in which the rotatable socket member can be rotated to a plurality of different working positions. The rotatable socket member includes a tubular insert to rotatably seat in the permanently mounted socket of the shovel blade, a first tubular socket to receive the end of the shovel handle in axial alignment with the tubular insert of the socket member, and a second tubular socket for receiving the end of the shovel handle which extends at an oblique angle from the longitudinal axis of the tubular insert portion of the socket member. The socket member in accordance with this invention permits positioning the shovel blade at different angles to the shovel handle, both vertically and horizontally.

  • Patent number: 4531713
Abstract: Implement for snow removal includes a snow moving blade and a tubular handle of generally rectangular configuration with a cross-bar portion for manipulation of the implement. A tubular fulcrum member, of generally rectangular configuration, is pivotably carried on the back surface of the blade for pivotable movement from a retracted position generally coplanar with the handle to an angular position in which the member serves as a fulcrum. With the pivotable member disposed as a fulcrum, the implement becomes a lever for tossing snow accumulated against the front face of the blade when the implement is pushed in plow-like manner through a snow covered area. An elastic line is fastened at one end to the handle and at its other end to the fulcrum member for returning the member to its retracted position.
