Abstract: A rotatable hydro excavation suction wand includes an upper section having an upper end configured to be connected to a suction hose, an angled lower section secured to a lower end of the upper portion and the angled lower section having an open end, and a rotary manifold connecting the upper section to the angled lower section and configured to rotate the angled lower section as the upper section remains fixed. The suction wand also includes a pressurized line coupled to the rotary manifold, where the angled lower section is adapted to rotate causing the open end to track in a circular motion covering an area larger than a diameter of the suction wand.
Abstract: An automated variable speed control system for a cutter head of a dredging cutter has a cutter head and a pump. The pump pumps cuttings from the cutter head through a cuttings discharge line. A sensor monitors amperage draw of the pump. A controller controls speed of movement of the cutter head based upon data received from the sensor. The controller increases a speed of movement of the cutter head through the materials when the amperage draw of the pump falls below the determined amperage range and the controller decreases the speed of movement of the cutter head through the materials when the amperage draw of the pump exceeds the determined amperage range.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for optimizing the dredging of an area by a dredge equipped with a cutter suction head (4) comprising the steps of: obtaining conventional soil information of the area to be dredged; measuring local soil parameters in and around the position of the cutter head during dredging; calculating dredging parameters for a current and subsequent cutter head position based on the combination of conventional and local soil parameters to optimize yield and cutter wear; and adjusting the dredging parameters so giving optimum efficiency at a current and subsequent cutter head position. It also relates to a system that implements the method.
Abstract: A dredge including a V-shaped or U-shaped pontoon having a first leg and a second leg. The legs have effective longitudinal axes that diverge from one another by an angle of no more than 180.degree.. Spuds or similar anchoring devices are connected to each of the respective pontoon legs by slides that allow the pontoon to be advanced relative to a substrate to which the spuds are anchored. A bucket wheel is suspended from the pontoon by a dredge ladder. A slewing device is provided to cause the dredge ladder, and the bucket wheel attached to it, to be slewed from side to side relative to the legs of the pontoon, about a substantially vertical axis.
Abstract: A hybrid dredging apparatus uses a clamshell attached to a rigid boom to dig and remove material. The clamshell then deposits the material into the hopper of a positive displacement pump for discharge at low velocities and with minimal water content. Transducers are be used to determine and control the area of excavation.
