  • Publication number: 20120272551
Abstract: A ditch forming implement includes a frame supported for movement across the ground in a forward working direction when connected to a towing vehicle. A rotating member, for example a tire having a resilient main body and integral resilient paddles formed thereon, is rotatably supported on the frame within an upright plane oriented transversely to the forward working direction. The frame may also support a shovel on an implement shank spaced forwardly of the rotating member, an adjustable guide wheel supported rearwardly of the rotating member for controlling depth of the rotating member, and a grader blade supported forwardly and laterally offset to one side of the rotating member for widening a ditch to be formed by the implement.

  • Patent number: 6536143
Abstract: A multiple-chain trenching machine comprises a prime mover with a trenching head assembly operably connected thereto, the head comprising: a) a frame operably connected to the prime mover at a proximal end; b) one or more pairs of proximal and distal primary sprockets mounted on the frame; c) a primary endless-chain digging assembly engaged around each pair of primary sprockets; d) one or more pairs of proximal and distal secondary sprockets mounted on the frame; e) a secondary endless-chain digging assembly engaged around each pair of secondary sprockets. The primary chains are substantially wider than the secondary chains, and trenching head is adapted so that each of the secondary chains produces a relief slot in the leading edge of the trench. The primary chains are driven in a forward chain direction, while the secondary chains may be driven in a forward or a reverse chain direction.

  • Publication number: 20020116844
Abstract: A trench digging machine is provided that includes a digging implement capable of being laterally offset beyond the bounds of the transport machine, thereby enabling the trench digging machine to dig trenches that are laterally offset from the transport machine. The trench digging machine also generally includes an attachment plate and frame to operably connect the digging implement to the transport machine. The attachment plate may be disposed at an angle offset from vertical such that the attachment plate faces downwardly. As such, the frame and, in turn, the digging implement may be operably connected to the transport machine at a position closer to the ground, thereby reducing the clearance required for access by the digging implement.

  • Patent number: 6397501
Abstract: A multiple-chain trenching machine comprises a prime mover with a trenching head assembly operably connected thereto. The trenching head may be raised, lowered, and/or pivoted relative to the prime mover, and comprises: a) a frame operably connected to the prime mover at a proximal end; b) one or more pairs of proximal and distal primary sprockets mounted on the frame; c) a primary endless-chain digging assembly engaged with and circulating around each pair of primary sprockets; d) one or more pairs of proximal and distal secondary sprockets mounted on the frame; e) a secondary endless-chain digging assembly engaged with and circulating around each pair of secondary sprockets. The primary chains are substantially wider than the secondary chains, and the diameters and positions of the sprockets may be such that each of the secondary chains cuts more deeply into the ground formation than the primary chains, thereby producing a narrow relief slot corresponding to each secondary chain.

  • Patent number: 6085445
Abstract: A piste-preparation device for preparing a half-pipe comprises at least one tool adjustably mounted on a piste vehicle, and lateral members which are laterally disposed relative to the tool and can essentially be assigned to side walls of the half-pipe. To prepare a half-pipe even in cases where the surface is hard and, at the same time, to remove a large amount of material, in particular from the half-pipe side walls, each lateral member comprises removal means designed with removal tools which can move substantially transversely to the direction of travel of the piste vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5601383
Abstract: A method consisting in forming a preliminary excavation along the pipe and in then digging, starting from the bottom of the preliminary excavation, two lateral trenches that are adjacent to the sides of the pipe, converge downwardly, and go deeper than the level set for the final excavation bed that lies below the pipe, so as to form respective lateral collection channels; and in removing, by cutting, the wall that separates the trenches in the region below the pipe, dumping the corresponding residual material into the lateral collection channels. The invention also relates to an apparatus, of the integral type or composed of dedicated units, for digging the lateral trenches and/or for cutting away the wall that lies below the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5228220
Abstract: A continuous excavating and loading machine having a front mounted rotary digging element divided into sections to allow cantilevered support, digs a width greater than that of any other part of the machine so that the machine may advance on the surface it has cut. The digging element is driven by digging chains which also break up material in their path so that the full digging face is excavated. Excavated material is discharged outwardly from the digging element by both centrifugal force and gravity after rotation past top center. The excavated material falls onto a conveyor system to be elevated and transported to the rear of the machine for transfer to appropriate carriers. A moldboard blade trims surface irregularities and pushes passed material forward into the bucket wheel. A movable skid plate, held against the cut surface by a constant force, supports digging torque reaction loads and damping is provided for shock conditions.

  • Patent number: 5199195
Abstract: An excavating device for scraping away the high shoulder material on the road sides. The device includes a rotating drum on which are permanently attached tooth-supports arranged in a helix. On the supports are fastened spikes and teeth, different types for different terrain. Scraped earthen material can be dispersed or windrowed and by arranging the supports on opposite helixes or by reversing rotation, the material can be dispersed or windrowed right or left of the rotating drum. A frame is employed to support the rotating drum, and the drum can be articulated to various working positions by hydraulic cylinders. A retractable hood is located above the rotor and movable deflectors are provided for material flow control. Tracer wheels facilitate control of the desirable digging depth.
