    Abstract: An apparatus for padding a pipeline lying in a ditch separates fine particles from coarse particles in the material excavated from the ditch and windrowed along the side of the ditch. The apparatus includes a frame having an open ended hollow separating drum having a plurality of scoop members adapted to lift and drop excavated material through a screen located beneath the scoop members. The scoop members are spaced above the screen a distance such that the efficiency of the separating drum is increased.

    Abstract: An all-earth foundation trencher has a digger body (1) pivotal selectively on a track-laying chassis (7). The digger body has an earth-mover blade (16) that is manipulatable multi-directionally on a front end. A digger boom (19) has a base end that is pivotal vertically forward from an aft end of the digger body. A digger head (22) is manipulatable on a digger end of the digger boom for power-digging foundation trenches having desired widths and depths in all likely consistencies of earth that ranges from hard and rocky earth to loose dirt. Conveyors (28–31) are positioned intermediate the track-laying chassis and the digger head for conveying removed earth sufficiently far from either or both sides of a foundation trench that the removed earth will not spill back into the foundation trench. A laser guide (99) proximate the digger head provides control assurance of accurate attitudinal digging. Operational controllers (102) include control knobs (104) on knob plates (49) positioned on a control panel (45).

After an empty pass of the dumping conveyor, the bucket-wheel conveyor is driven at a creeping speed and a second store of the material is formed in the receiving chute of the dumping conveyor which is turned onto operate at creeping speed when the material reaches the upper belt drum of the bucket-wheel conveyor belt. Once the empty truck is in position, the belts are accelerated to maximum speed.

The excavating wheel assembly is supported at the front end of the vehicle on a subframe mounted for pivotal movement relative to the vehicle between excavating and traveling positions. The excavating wheels are mounted for rotation about angularly disposed axes and are positioned to receive the pipeline therebetween. Bolster rollers are mounted on the excavating wheel assembly for initially lifting the pipeline, and pipeline rollers are mounted on the vehicle for exerting a downwardly directed force on the pipeline upon insertion thereof into the pipeline receiving trench.

    Abstract: An excavating and loading system including an excavating wheel assembly at the front thereof and a plurality of conveyors for conveying material from the excavating wheel assembly upwardly and rearwardly. A right angle gearbox is connected to each drive shaft and powers the excavating wheel through a planetary speed reducer. Apparatus is provided for raising and lowering the excavating height of the excavating wheel assembly to thereby vary the grade of the excavation.
