Polarity Multiplex Patents (Class 370/499)
  • Patent number: 8989171
Abstract: A system and method transmit a data stream from a source to a destination over a communication channel. A transmitter includes devices for processing inputs to assemble data packets for the data stream, and a multiplexer for assembling a data frame to be transmitted over the communication channel, in which each data frame has at least one fixed slot. The multiplexer sets at least one freely allocatable time slot in each data frame. Retransmission control devices connected to the multiplexer retransmit a specific data packet which is not properly received by the destination, using one of the freely allocatable slots.

Abstract: Blind polarization demultiplexing algorithms based on complex independent component analysis (ICA) by negentropy maximization for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) coherent optical systems are disclosed. The polarization demultiplexing is achieved by maximizing the signal's non-Gaussianity measured by the information theoretic quantity of negentropy. An adaptive gradient optimization algorithm and a Quasi-Newton algorithm with accelerated convergence are employed to maximize the negentropy. Certain approximate nonlinear functions can be substitutes for the negentropy which is strictly derived from the probability density function (PDF) of the received noisy QAM signal with phase noise, and this reduces the computational complexity.

  • Patent number: 8296619
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for indicating a temporary block flow (TBF) to which a piggybacked acknowledgement/non-acknowledgement (PAN) field is addressed. A method and apparatus of performing receive processing to reduce the probability of false acceptance of erroneous PANs are also disclosed. A transmit station generates a PAN check sequence (PCS) and performs a channel coding on a PAN field and the PCS. The transmit station scrambles the encoded bits of the PAN field and the PCS with a TBF-specific scrambling code. Because of the scrambling, the PCS decoding at a receive station will pass if the data block is received by an intended receive station, while the PCS decoding will fail if received by a non-intended receive station. Alternatively, the scrambling may be performed before the channel coding. Alternatively, the transmit station may combine the PAN field and a temporary flow identity (TFI) to generate a PCS.

  • Patent number: 7961798
Abstract: Wired/wireless optical signal modulation and demodulation apparatuses and methods using an intensity modulation/direct detection method and an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) method are provided. A unipolar OFDM symbol frame is generated by determining the polarity of each of a plurality of sub-frames of a bipolar OFDM symbol frame which comprises both a plurality of positive pulses and a plurality of negative pulses, inverting the polarity of the sub-frames which are determined to be negative, delaying one of the positive sub-frame and a positive sub-frame obtained through the inversion by the duration of the sub-frames, and multiplexing the result of the delaying and whichever of the positive sub-frame and the positive sub-frame obtained through the inversion is not the result of the delaying. The unipolar OFDM symbol frame can guarantee high power amplification efficiency and high transmission power efficiency, and is robust against a multi-path channel environment.

  • Patent number: 7912093
Abstract: A method and apparatus of providing a piggybacked positive acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) (PAN) field indicator (PANI) and a polling indicator are disclosed. A combined field of a PANI bit, a relative reserved block period (RRBP) bit and an EGPRS supplementary polling (ES/P) field may indicate a polling scheme and a presence of a PAN field. Alternatively, the presence of the PAN field in the data block may be indicated by using a specific training sequence. Alternatively, a forward error correction (FEC) coding may be performed on the data block including the header, and the presence of the PAN field may be indicated by scrambling the encoded bits corresponding the header with a specific scrambling sequence. Alternatively, a header check sequence (HCS) may be generated and the presence of the PAN field is indicated by mixing a predetermined sequence with the HCS.

  • Patent number: 7719133
Abstract: The invention relates to a simplified digital wiring system for vehicles. The invention comprises a synchronisation generator (2) which is connected to a plurality of multiplexer modules (1a, 1b, 1b?) via a synchronisation (6) and, at other times, data line. In turn, the aforementioned multiplexer modules (1a, 1b, 1b?) are connected to a plurality of inputs and/or outputs for receiving/transmitting data from/to electroelectronic devices, such that the synchronisation generator selects a multiplexer module so that said module manages the inputs and/or outputs thereof and, in this way, can control the operations of the different electroelectronic devices (13-19). Moreover, the multiplexer modules can be connected to the synchronisation generator (2) in parallel (1a) or in series (1b, 1b?). The invention is advantageous in that the multiplexer modules (1a, 1b, 1b?) are connected using a single synchronisation (6) and data (7) line, thereby simplifying the wiring.

  • Patent number: 6891856
Abstract: In a communication network, end-user systems are connected via a common transmission medium to a timeslot assignment unit. Each end-user system has a buffer for storing packets, and a queue length detector for detecting a queue length of the stored packets. The end-user system forwards packets on assigned timeslots to the network and transmits a signal for indicating the detected queue length to the assignment unit. The timeslot assignment unit maintains timeslot records to store count numbers of assigned timeslots, determines a total count number of timeslots assigned to each end-user system during a period corresponding to the delay time of the unit, and receives a queue length signal from each end-user system. From the total count number and the queue length a virtual queue length is determined for indicating the number of packets to which timeslots are still not assigned. Based on the virtual queue length, timeslots are assigned to each end-user system.

  • Patent number: 6650658
Abstract: A system and method for a handshake protocol for digital subscriber line (DSL) and similar telecommunication systems that makes beneficial use of aliasing to select and decode signaling tones. In particular, the invention carefully selects signaling tones at frequencies such that higher frequency tones would alias down and coincide with specific base tones after sub-sampling. Thus, rather than filtering out higher frequencies to avoid aliasing, aliasing is exploited to use these higher frequencies. This technique would allow a receiver to detect and decode the higher frequency tones at lower frequency tone locations or bands. A related innovation is a band set, which includes one or more tones within a particular frequency band, where typically each tone in a band set corresponds to a different tone set.

  • Patent number: 6501770
Abstract: In a data communication system such as a high capacity DBS system, dynamic mapping of broadcast resources is provided to exploit occasional redundancy in the program content of two or more input data streams, freeing at least one broadcast resource to carry alternate bitstreams, such as additional programs or existing programs at higher quality. Transmission maps defining the correspondence between input data streams and broadcast resources, and reception maps defining the correspondence between broadcast resources and output data streams, are updated as needed to dynamically modify broadcast resource mapping to increase effective utilization of available bandwidth. Beneficial n:n-y:m mapping in a high capacity consumer DBS entertainment system is provided. Apparatus and methods for efficiently generating, maintaining and updating allocation maps with reduced overhead requirements, are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5734329
Abstract: A communication system for allowing a master to send commands to one or more slave devices across a normally static digital signal line of a bus. The master includes command logic for asserting a sequence of digital pulses according to a predetermined protocol with inherent timing to clock each data bit into a slave device. The master transmits several data bits to form each command, where each data bit is combined with clocking pulses to implement the self-clocking scheme. In particular, an initial data pulse incorporates a data bit to initiate a data phase. Each slave device includes a state machine which detects the data pulse and enables a sample and hold or latch circuit to capture the data bit. Then a clock pulse followed by a reset pulse is sent to clock the data into the slave device and reset the state machine. The slave also includes shift register logic to hold a command bit and address bits for each command.
