  • Patent number: 8699529
Abstract: Within a receiver, a channel estimation mechanism involves a hardware interpolator. In a first mode, narrowband pilot values are analyzed to generate channel parameters that are supplied to the interpolator such that the interpolator generates channel estimate values. The channel estimate values are used to demodulate a tile of a frame. In a second mode, broadband pilot values are supplied to an IFFT, thereby generating time domain values. After time domain processing, an FFT is employed to generate intermediate channel estimate values. These intermediate values are analyzed to determine channel parameters, which in turn are supplied to the hardware interpolator so that the interpolator generates a larger number of channel estimate values. After phase adjustment, the channel estimate values are used in demodulation. Use of the interpolator in the broadband mode allows the FFT employed to be of a smaller order, and to consume less power and/or processing resources.

  • Patent number: 8675749
Abstract: A system and method is provided for estimating the channel in OFDM transmission with inter-carrier interference (ICI). A channel in a data subcarrier in a subchannel shared between pilot subcarriers and data subcarriers can be estimated by performing interpolation based on estimated channels in pilot subcarriers in the same OFDM symbol as the subcarrier, such as through spline interpolation. A second estimate of the channel in the subcarrier can be produced by averaging an estimate of the channel in a subcarrier in the subchannel in a previous OFDM symbol and an estimate of the channel in a subcarrier in the subchannel in a succeeding OFDM symbol. A third estimate of the channel in the subcarrier can be produced through a linear combination of the first estimate and the second estimate. The channel in data subcarriers can be estimated through a weighted sum of the channel in nearest subcarriers.

Abstract: Provided is a terminal apparatus that can suppress the increase in interference between pilot signals in the same slot, while also suppressing the degradation of the flexibility to design cell cluster structures. When hopping information indicates an inter-slot hopping, a mapping unit (212) arranges a first pilot sequences in which a group to which the sequences used in respective slots belong varies on a slot-by-slot basis. When the hopping information indicates an inter-subframe hopping, the mapping unit (212) arranges a second pilot sequences in which a group to which the sequences used in respective slots belong varies on a subframe-by-subframe basis. The sequence group to which the sequences used in any one of the subframes in the second pilot sequences belong is identical with the sequence group to which the sequence used in any one of the slots included in that one subframe in the first pilot sequences belongs.

Abstract: At least some reference symbols dedicated to a particular communication device are transmitted in resource blocks allocated to other devices. This way, reference symbol assignments are not unduly restricted by other constraints placed on the boundary elements of a resource block. According to an embodiment, data and reference signals are transmitted by transmitting a resource block allocated to a first communication device. The resource block includes a plurality of resource elements, each resource element corresponding to a modulation symbol. At least one reference symbol associated with the resource block and dedicated to the first communication device is transmitted in a resource block allocated to a second communication device. On the receive side, the communication device can perform channel estimation based on reference symbols dedicated to the device that are transmitted in resource blocks allocated to the device and in resource block(s) allocated to other communication device(s).
