Signaling (ancillary To Main Information) Patents (Class 370/522)
  • Patent number: 6295302
Abstract: Alternate speech and data communication over a single circuit is implemented within a communication network which include first nodes which include both a data source and a speech source. Digital information, comprising either speech parameters or data, is sent in discrete blocks between the first node and a second node connected to the network. An inband signaling bit pattern is included within selected blocks sent by a TX-alternator in the sending node to indicate whether all following digital information is to be interpreted by the receiving node as speech or data and a RX-alternator in the receiving node interprets the digital information in accordance with the last received inband signaling pattern. One exemplary implementation is in a GSM cellular radio network in tandem free operation.

Abstract: Adjunct apparatus for increasing network transmission capacity provides a low-cost, efficient solution for increasing the network transmission capacity of the existing telephone circuit switched network, while keeping the current network equipment unchanged. A Local Switch Network (LSN) Adjunct (LSNA) and a Tandem/Toll Switch Network (TSN) Adjunct (TSNA) interface with standard network elements, such as switches and cross connect equipment. These network adjuncts, comprising a set of low-bit rate speech coders, a dynamic timeslot manager and other supporting functions, advantageously transmit to and receive from a T1/T3/0C3/E1 trunk. More than one channel of voice is carried on one 64 Kbps DSO timeslot, while still maintaining the voice at toll quality. A sub-timeslot and sub-timeslot bundling are introduced in the standard T1 or E1 frame where each sub-timeslot is analogous to a single bit of the typical eight bit word to provide more than 24 or 30 voice channels respectively.

  • Publication number: 20010017849
Abstract: A satellite direct radio broadcast system is provided which assembles bits of broadcast programs into prime rate increments, several of which are assembled into a frame. Frames are divided into symbols which are demultiplexed into alternating ones of a plurality of prime rate channels. The prime rate channels are demultiplexed onto a corresponding number of broadcast frequencies for transmission to a satellite. The satellite payload switches the symbols into time division multiplexed (TDM) data streams. The receivers process the TDM streams using service control headers (SCHs) provided therein by broadcast stations. The SCHs facilitate transmission of different service components within broadcast channel frames, association of a primary broadcast channel with one or more secondary broadcast channels on a frame-to-frame basis, and the transmission of multiframe bit streams, or auxiliary data throughout a broadcast channel that are independent of a service, in contiguous or non-contiguous frames.

  • Patent number: 6282202
Abstract: In traffic processes in a telecommunication system there is internal communication between service controlling entities which may belong to logical nodes in the same or different applications. Such a service controlling entity may be a service process controlling a service for a party of a call. The communication between the service controlling entities is controlled by rules given in a generic protocol. These rules imply lack of messages and use only of protocol parameters in the form of indivisible information transmission elements. Based upon the generic protocol, service protocols are specified, each corresponding to its service, and a protocol managing entity within an application handling the protocol management of a certain service according to the service protocol. The information elements are distributed by a communication service having a parameter distribution function for the protocol parameters, by transferring data between the protocol managing entities.

Abstract: When a sync pattern in a frame of a bit stream is detected to synchronize a data processing apparatus with the bit stream, data patterns containing a pattern identical to the sync pattern are often erroneously detected as the sync pattern. In order to overcome such problem, an apparatus for detecting data in a bit stream is provided. The bit stream contains a sequence of frames, and each frame has a predetermined number of bits and comprises a sync pattern and a data portion. The apparatus contains a detecting circuit, a counting circuit, and a synchronization signal generating circuit. The detecting circuit detects a first data pattern in the bit stream that equals the sync pattern and detects a second data pattern in the bit stream that equals the sync pattern. The counting circuit begins counting bits in the bit stream to generate a count value when the first data pattern is detected by the detection circuit.

TDMA-TDD frames are then allocated such that the control channels of each sector cell coincide with time slots in which control channels can be placed (S109). As a result, a control channel placement method is provided in which a TDMA-TDD mode is employed and in which control channels are placed in time slots such that a base station having a sector cell structure avoids interference from the same frequency.

  • Patent number: 6233237
Abstract: A method and protocol for creating R2 data connections over a telecommunications connection is presented. The protocol includes a small set of signals used to create a data connection over a telecommunications using R2-MFC signaling for voice connections. The method includes a first set of methods for R2-MFC short cycling and a second set of methods for R2-MFC spoofing. R2-MFC short cycling uses the R2 data connection protocol and a tone detection apparatus to create a data connection. R2-MFC spoofing uses the R2 data connection protocol to create a data connection without a tone detection apparatus to detect a forward register signal. The method and protocol allow a data connection to be quickly and economically completed using R2-MFC signaling. The method and protocol are suitable for data services such as Internet or intranet access and teleconferencing.

  • Patent number: 6222859
Abstract: Prior to communication over the Internet and using a different line, a first terminal transmits to a second terminal a set of information including at least an IP address of the first terminal on the Internet. Based on the IP address thus transmitted separately, the party at the second terminal initiates communication over the Internet. This establishes direct end-to-end communication between the two terminals over the Internet. In a communication setup such as an Internet-based telephone call wherein address information about a desired party on the network is not previously known to a calling party, the inventive method allows the two parties to communicate directly with each other over the network on an end-to-end communication basis without recourse to a rendezvous server or like services.

  • Patent number: 6212199
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing digital audio data comprises remapping channel status information in an input digital audio bit stream into a uniform format. The channel status information in the uniform format contains a super-set of data included in the channel status block of the original data and comprises a “higher level” form of presentation than the original status information, thereby reducing the amount of processing required by the application program in interpreting the audio data. The translation of audio data between different formats is performed in an interface unit. The interface unit strips the channel status information from the incoming digital audio data, translates the channel status information into a desired form, and then presents the audio data and the translated channel status information to a host computer for further processing or storage. The translation and routing functions performed by the interface unit are controlled by data stored in one or more registers.

  • Patent number: 6205119
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the efficient management of electronic communications in a ring topology network. Each Send packet and Echo packet includes a mechanism used to request to share bandwidth. In one implementation a single bit is used, while in another the mechanism includes a traffic control field providing a hierarchy of request to share bits accompanied by priority information, thereby enabling a multi-level system. When a Send packet reaches the target node the information is returned to the source node via the echo packet's request to share bit or the traffic control field, depending upon the implementation. The source node then alters its rate of packet transmission as a function of the number of requests to share it receives and, in the second implementation, as a function of the priority of the requesting nodes in relation to the priority of the source node. In one embodiment, each node conditionally gives output packets preference over passing through packets.

  • Patent number: 6201798

  • Patent number: 6201817
Abstract: A system linking a serial interface with a processor that is parallel in nature is described. A system memory having a receive buffer stores data from a UART destined for processing by a central processing unit. A control state machine interrupts the central processing unit to initiate processing of the data in the receive buffer when the receive buffer reaches a certain state, such as storing a full frame of data. Command characters indicative of control conditions in the data stream are detected by discrete hardware in a receive command processor, and the memory address in the receive buffer is forwarded to the central processing unit. The resulting system substantially improves the speed and efficiency of the transfer of data between the UART and the central processing unit.

  • Patent number: 6201787
Abstract: A hub port in a hub of a loop network which automatically bypasses a node port which is generating a particular loop failure initialization sequence. The hub port contains a detection circuit which enables the hub port to detect loop failure initialization data received from its attached node port. Upon detecting such data from an attached node port, the hub port replaces such data with buffer data to be passed to the next hub port. Upon detecting the completion of a loop failure initialization sequence from an attached node port, the hub port enters a bypass mode. The hub port no longer passes on output from its attached node port and instead forwards along the internal hub link data received from the previous hub port in the hub loop. The bypass is maintained until the hub port receives a primitive sequence indicating the recovery of the attached node port. The hub port periodically sends at least one recovery sequence to the node port.
