Vibration Velocity (e.g., Echo Timing) Patents (Class 374/119)
  • Patent number: 4483630
Abstract: An improved ultrasonic thermometer of the acoustic pulse-echo type for measuring high temperatures and temperature profiles having a magnetostrictive head surrounded by an acoustic pulse generating and pulse sensing apparatus having a positioned electromagnetic coil, the magnetostrictive head joined to an elongated heat sensing wire having a plurality of discontinuities at the distal end thereof to reflect a portion of the propagated acoustic pulse, the improvement comprising a lock fixedly holding the acoustic pulse generating and pulse sensing electromagnetic coil in alignment after initial adjustment in order to achieve long term stability.

  • Patent number: 4469450
Abstract: A method for nondestructively monitoring the internal temperature of objects having poor thermal conductance, such as tires, includes the initial steps of determining the internal temperature of a reference object or a representative portion thereof at a plurality of internal temperatures (T), measuring a plurality of pulse propogation times (t.sub.T) taken by an ultrasonic frequency pulse signal to propogate through the reference object or a representative portion thereof at the plurality of internal temperatures (T), and establishing a relationship between the determined plurality of internal temperatures (T) and the associated plurality of pulse propogation times (t.sub.T). Thereafter the unknown internal temperature (T.sub.U) of the object to be monitored may be found by measuring the pulse propogation time (t.sub.TU) taken by an ultrasonic frequency pulse signal to propogate therethrough and determining the unknown internal temperature (T.sub.U) from correlating the measured pulse propogation time (t.

  • Patent number: 4452081
Abstract: Temperature inside a tissue volume is noninvasively determined on the basis of its known relationship with the velocity of ultrasound inside the volume. The velocity of ultrasound between two field points inside the volume of interest is calculated from measurements of differences in transit times of sound beams scattered in substantially opposite directions at these field points.

  • Patent number: 4337656
Abstract: A device for measuring the depth and temperature of a liquid stored in a tank is provided. The device includes a hermetically sealed vertically disposed tube having ultrasonic transmitter/receiver devices at either end thereof with a reflector vertically movable in the tube and having a through-hole therein permitting transmission from one end of the tube to the other as well as reflection. A float encircles the tube and moves up and down with the level of liquid in the storage tank. The float and reflector are magnetically interconnected so that the reflector moves up and down with the float.
