Abstract: An ear thermometer capable of identifying an infrared transmittance of a probe cover is provided and includes an ear thermometer body, a probe, and a plurality of activation elements. The probe is disposed on the ear thermometer body. A closed end of the probe cover is used for infrared transmittance, and the probe cover has different infrared transmittances according to a thickness variation thereof. The activation elements are disposed on the ear thermometer body and configured to detect the infrared transmittance of the probe cover. Each of the activation elements includes an ON state and an OFF state so that the activation elements are arranged to form different sensor combinations, which respectively correspond to different infrared transmittances, and any two of the different sensor combinations have the two corresponding infrared transmittances that are different from one another.

Abstract: A cover for use with a measuring device body that includes a sensor portion having a distal end with a sensor having a measurement surface and a proximal end opposite the distal end, and a grip connected to the proximal end of the sensor portion. The cover includes a cover member configured to cover the measurement surface of the sensor, and a support member at least on a side of the sensor portion opposite to the measurement surface, and the support member is connected to the cover member.
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a system and method for measuring the structural characteristics of an object. The object is subjected to an energy application processes and provides an objective, quantitative measurement of structural characteristics of an object. The system may include a device, for example, a percussion instrument, capable of being reproducibly placed against the object undergoing such measurement for reproducible positioning. The system does not include an external on/off switch or any remote on/off switching mechanism. The system also includes a disposable feature or assembly for minimizing cross-contamination between tests. The structural characteristics as defined herein may include vibration damping capacities, acoustic damping capacities, structural integrity or structural stability.

Abstract: An otoscope that utilizes ambient light is disclosed. The otoscope includes a fiberoptic cable(s), as opposed to batteries, to illuminate the inspection area. The otoscope made of non-metallic and/or non-ferrous materials to permit its safe use in highly flammable oxygen or magnetic environments. The otoscope includes a handle, a head coupled to the handle, and a specula coupled to the head. An eye piece coupled to the head opposite the specula. A reflective lens is positioned within the head. A fiber optic cable is positioned within the handle. The handle includes a first end positioned opposite a second end. The head is coupled to the first end. The fiber optic cable provides light to the reflective lens. The fiber optic cable extends from the front end to the second end. The reflective lens is oriented to reflect light to the specula.
