  • Patent number: 11973990
Abstract: A method for video decoding includes decoding prediction information for a current block in a current picture that is a part of a coded video sequence, the prediction information including a first syntax element and a second syntax element. The first syntax element indicates that a deblocking filter process is enabled for the current block, the deblocking filter process being applied to a boundary of the current block. The second syntax element indicates a number of samples to be used for calculating a boundary strength of the deblocking filter process. The method also includes determining the boundary strength of the deblocking filter process using the number of samples indicated by the second syntax element, and performing the deblocking filter process for the current block based on the boundary strength.

  • Patent number: 11943442
Abstract: Innovations in use of chroma quantization parameter (“QP”) offsets when determining a control parameter for deblock filtering. For example, as part of encoding, an encoder sets a picture-level chroma QP offset and slice-level chroma QP offset for encoding of a slice of a picture. The encoder also performs deblock filtering of at least part of the slice, where derivation of a control parameter considers only the picture-level chroma QP offset. The encoder outputs at least part of a bitstream including the encoded content. As part of decoding, a corresponding decoder sets a picture-level chroma QP offset and a slice-level chroma QP offset for decoding of a slice of a picture, but derivation of a control parameter for deblock filtering considers only the picture-level chroma QP offset.

  • Patent number: 11889091
Abstract: The present disclose provides methods and systems for processing chroma signals. According to some embodiments, the method can include: receiving a sequence parameter set (SPS); and determining, based on a first flag signaled in the SPS, whether chroma residual scaling is enabled or disabled for a slice associated with the SPS.

  • Patent number: 11516514
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer-readable storage mediums for video encoding/decoding. An apparatus includes processing circuitry that decodes prediction information for a current block. The prediction information includes a first syntax element and a second syntax element. The processing circuitry determines whether a plurality of processes of determining a boundary strength (BS) of a deblocking filter is allowed for the current block based on the first syntax element. When the plurality of processes is allowed for the current block, the processing circuitry determines a subset of the plurality of processes of determining the BS of the deblocking filter for the current block based on the second syntax element. The processing circuitry determines the BS of the deblocking filter for the current block based on the subset of the plurality of processes of determining the BS of the deblocking filter.

  • Patent number: 8218655
Abstract: A method, system and device are provided for pre-filtering device for filtering a video signal prior to digitally encoding. The method includes receiving at least one input picture and at least one reconstructed picture from an encoding process and performing an in-loop temporal filtering process using at least one input picture and at least one reconstructed picture from an encoding process to output a pre-filtered video signal for use in an encoding process. The result is enabling an encoding process to produce an output with increased temporal correlation between adjacent pictures regardless of the coding type, since the artifacts introduced by the encoding process are also considered by the process.

  • Patent number: 8189911
Abstract: A method for assessing image quality between a reference image and an impaired image is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of subband decomposition of the luminance component of the reference image into N subbands, called reference subbands and of the luminance component of the impaired image into N subbands, called impaired subbands; errors computation from the reference subbands and from the impaired subbands; and pooling the computed the errors. The subband decomposition is based on a wavelet transform adapted to decompose each of the luminance components into L levels of decomposition, with L a positive integer determined as a function of the image height and of the distance of visualization.

  • Patent number: 8134558
Abstract: Systems and methods for editing of a computer-generated animation across a plurality of keyframe pairs are provided. Embodiments enable time editing across a plurality of non-roving keyframe pairs. Such non-roving keyframes have fixed references relative to an animation's reference timeline. An author may specify a point on an animation's reference timeline at which each non-roving keyframe is placed. In accordance with embodiments of the present invention, an animation across a plurality of non-roving keyframes is treated as an editable unit. Thus, an author may modify the timing for all or a select portion of such editable unit (which may span a plurality of the non-roving keyframes). For instance, an author may expand or reduce the time span for a plurality of non-roving keyframes, and the timing of the plurality of non-roving keyframes automatically adjusts to maintain their timing proportionality relative to each other in the resulting modified time span.
