Patent number: 12068130Abstract: A charged particle buncher includes a series of spaced apart electrodes arranged to generate a shaped electric field. The series includes a first electrode, a last electrode and one- or more intermediate electrodes. The charged particle buncher includes a waveform device attached to the electrodes and configured to apply a periodic potential waveform to each electrode independently in a manner so as to form a quasi-electrostatic time varying potential gradient between adjacent electrodes and to cause spatial distribution of charged particles that form a plurality of nodes and antinodes. The nodes have a charged particle density and the antinodes have substantially no charged particle density, and the nodes and the antinodes are formed from a charged particle beam configured to hit the target.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2023Date of Patent: August 20, 2024Assignee: NexGen Semi Holding, Inc.Inventors: Mark Joseph Bennahmias, Michael John Zani, Jeffrey Winfield Scott

Publication number: 20040202272Abstract: Some embodiments include operation of an accelerator waveguide to accelerate particles to a first energy within the waveguide, wherein a prebuncher coupled to the waveguide outputs particle bunches having a first phase, change of a phase at which particle bunches will be output from the prebuncher from the first phase to a second phase, and operation of the accelerator waveguide to accelerate particles to a second energy within the waveguide, wherein the prebuncher outputs particle bunches having the second phase. Further aspects provide change of a resonant frequency of the prebuncher from a first frequency to a second frequency. According to still further aspects, the prebuncher includes a prebuncher cavity and change of the resonant frequency comprises change of a shape of the prebuncher cavity.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2003Publication date: October 14, 2004Inventors: Chong Guo Yao, Kenneth Whitham

Patent number: 5118950Abstract: A cluster ion synthesis process utilizing a containerless environment to grow in a succession of steps cluster ions of large mass and well defined distribution. The cluster ion growth proceeds in a continuous manner in a plurality of growth chambers which have virtually unlimited storage times and capacities.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1989Date of Patent: June 2, 1992Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air ForceInventors: John T. Bahns, William C. Stwalley

Patent number: 5051582Abstract: The method of producing specific cluster ions utilizing an ionization source to produce ions which are then sorted or resolved according to velocity and mass. The selected ions are passed through a growth chamber containing a gaseous vapor of a specified element and are coated by the vapor to provide coated cluster ions. The coated cluster ions are mass selected and held in an ion trap.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1989Date of Patent: September 24, 1991Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air ForceInventors: John T. Patent number: 4835446Abstract: A high electric field gradient electron accelerator utilizing short duration, microwave radiation, and capable of operating at high field gradients for high energy physics applications or at reduced electric field gradients for high average current intermediate energy accelerator applications. Particles are accelerated in a smooth bore, periodic undulating waveguide, wherein the period is so selected that the particles slip an integral number of cycles of the r.f. wave every period of the structure. This phase step of the particles produces substantially continuous acceleration in a traveling wave without transverse magnetic or other guide means for the particle.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1987Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: Cornell Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: John A. Patent number: 4390495Abstract: A fusion reaction system is provided wherein ions from two sources are forced by passage through magnetic and electric fields to travel toward each other in opposite senses and directions under confinement to common helical paths at a common radius in a cylindrical reaction zone by radial electric fields. The ions are bunched along said helical paths to establish a plurality of concentrations of the ions located at spaced points along the paths with the points being the same for ions from both sources. Structure in the reaction zone is arranged for establishing local variations in the radial electric fields to produce the localized concentrations of ions as they traverse their helical paths. Further, means may be provided to velocity modulate the ion sources for producing standing waves along the reaction paths having velocity nodes located at points in the reaction zone where the localized concentrations occur.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1981Date of Patent: June 28, 1983Assignee: Energy Profiles, Inc.Inventor: Winfield W.
