The telephonic connection may be with a voice messaging system which, in turn, will broadcast via a speaker incorporated into the user interface, a greeting recorded by the occupant. At the end of the greeting, a visitor may then speak into a microphone incorporated into the user interface, and record an audio message. The controller may further be programmed to establish a telephonic connection remotely located between the visitor interface and a telephone.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1999Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Assignee: Qwest Communication International Inc.Inventors: Lynda L. Patent number: 6493440Abstract: The present invention relates to a thermal management system for a thin depth LCD display enclosure. The LCD display enclosure may be used in environmentally sensitive conditions and may be environmentally-sealed to protect the components of the LCD display from environmental conditions. The LCD display components may include a lens and a LCD module, and other heating producing components, such as backlights and electronic circuitry. The heat producing components and any external heat placed on the enclosure causes the ambient air temperature inside the enclosure to rise thereby possibly causing the LCD display to not operate properly. The ambient air temperature inside the enclosure is lowered by transferring heat in the ambient air through the enclosure to a heat sink that is attached on the outside rear portion of the enclosure, and to the atmosphere using forced convection, natural convention, or both.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2001Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignee: Gilbarco Inc.Inventors: Jonathan A. Patent number: 6381322Abstract: A system for providing call precedence for incoming telephone calls received by a switching system for a telephone station that has a plurality of lines connected to said telephone station. The system of this invention receives an incoming telephone call having a first priority level for the telephone station. The system of this invention then determines whether the telephone station has an available line. If the telephone station does not have an available line, it is determined whether the telephone station has an active call connected to the telephone station. If an active call is connected the telephone station, a signal is transmitted indicating a priority incoming call responsive to a determination that said telephone station has an active call. The system then wait to receive a response from the telephone station. If a response is received, a connection of the incoming call to the telephone station is established.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1999Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Avaya Technology Corp.Inventor: Sharlene J. Patent number: 6321094Abstract: In a network system including a wireless mobile communications system, when establishing a connection between a wireless mobile terminal and a host computer connected to a stationary network system, the wireless mobile terminal produces a connection establishment request signal including first information which is required to obtain services from the host computer and then transmits the connection establishment request signal to the host computer. The host computer verifies the first information included in the connection establishment request signal received from the wireless mobile terminal and transmits a response signal back to the wireless mobile terminal only when the first information has been verified. This causes the connection to be established between the wireless mobile terminal and the host computer.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1998Date of Patent: November 20, 2001Assignee: NEC CorporationInventors: Keiichi Hayashi, Hiroto Nagai

Patent number: 6275573Abstract: Secured connections are provided over a telephone access network using encryption/decryption equipment installed at a customer's premises and at a network facility. For outbound calls, the access network is secured before the destination number or any other critical information is sent over the access network. Inbound calls are routed through a secure center to prevent the identification of the calling party and to secure these communications over the access network. By providing encryption/decryption equipment at the network facility, the system provides secured connections over the access network regardless of whether the remote party is secured. The system also may be configured to provide end-to-end secured connections.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1998Date of Patent: August 14, 2001Assignee: Snapshield Ltd.Inventors: Uri Naor, Shimon Zigdon, Tsion Gonen

Patent number: 6061438Abstract: An extension-in-use exclusion apparatus is for use in a telephone system. The system has a telephone device, a telephone line, and two telephone extensions connected to the line. The apparatus is connected between one extension and the telephone device. The apparatus has an exclusion controller connecting the line to the telephone device when all extensions other than the extension for the telephone device are on-hook and the telephone device extension is off-hook. The exclusion controller does not connect the line to the telephone device when another extension is off-hook and the telephone device is off-hook. A user operable switch can instruct the exclusion controller to connect the line to the telephone device when another extension is off-hook and the telephone device is off-hook. The apparatus automatically returns to exclusion mode when the telephone device returns to off-hook. A by-pass allows FSK signals to pass directly through to the telephone device.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1994Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: Aastra Technologies IncInventors: Francis N.
