  • Patent number: 6947542
Abstract: A private communications network and method of private communications network operation. One or more communications servers each have connected communications devices. From communications devices users enter called party numbers that may include a carrier access code (CAC) and carrier identification code (CIC). The called party number is checked for a CAC and any identified CAC/CIC is parsed from the called party number. The parsed called party number and the CAC/CIC are passed independently of each other over a private network to a public network gateway server. The public network gateway server directs the parsed called party number to a carrier network identified by the CIC, connecting the user to the called party.

  • Patent number: 6891944
Abstract: A telephone accessory that is connected to a subscriber's telephone line as an extension, and monitors the line for the initiation of a call from any telephone set. The invention detects a call initiation by determining that a telephone set has seized the line without ring voltage being present immediately beforehand. If the first digit dialed by the subscriber is a “1”, the invention immediately dials the remainder of a long-distance access code, without the initial “1”, followed by a “1” which signifies a long distance number. This burst of dialed digits takes a short time, after which the subscriber continues to dial the area code and number as normal. The effect for the subscriber is to manually dial a normal long ditance nimber as 1+area code+number, while this invention takes advantage of the fact that long distance access codes begin with “1” and automatically inserts the desired code.

  • Patent number: 6873849
Abstract: This invention provides a method intended to solve Number Portability in origin for calls to ported subscribers at a destination classical network, an inter-working function intended to provide the means to support said method, and a hierarchical DNS structure able to provide a new URI indicating interworking with an external database where routing data for said ported subscribers reside. This new URI specifies the Global Title address of the external database and the access protocol to said external database. The NAPTR resolution for that URI implies the use of an Inter-working Feature (IWF) placed in the DNS-resolver part of an S-CSCF, or in a close association, in the originating network. This IWF comprises a Protocol Translator and Controller adapting between DNS format and the external database access protocol format, at least one of a plurality of Application Protocol Handling Modules, and an SS7 Protocol Stack.

  • Patent number: 6829345
Abstract: A method and system enable optimization of trunk group design in a public switched telephone network (PSTN). A community of interest, including two end offices connected by a direct trunk and at least one tandem switch, is identified using out-of band signaling data collected from the PSTN. An application server interfaced to the PSTN determines whether traffic in the community of interest passes through the tandem switch during a predetermined time period. When traffic passes through the tandem switch, the application server further determines whether the direct trunk between the end offices experienced an overflow condition during the same predetermined time period. When the direct trunk did not experience an overflow condition, an exchange code associated with the traffic passing through the tandem switch is designated as a misrouted code. The misrouted code is flagged so that associated traffic is redirected through the direct trunk.

Abstract: A private branch exchange (PBX) or other communication system switch processes a call to determine if an identifier associated with the call has a corresponding entry in a stored list of external endpoints registered with the switch. The switch directs the call to an external port of the switch for delivery to a given one of the external endpoints if the identifier associated with the call has a corresponding entry in the stored list of external endpoints registered with the switch. The given external endpoint does not have a fixed external port assignment in the switch. Instead, the switch dynamically selects from a set of external ports an available external port over which the call is directed to the given external endpoint. The dynamic selection of the available external port may be implemented using an automatic route selection (ARS) algorithm.

Abstract: An incoming call received in a private branch exchange (PBX) or other communication system switch at an external port of the switch is processed by the switch so as to appear to a destination terminal as if it were originated by an internal extension associated with the switch. The incoming call may be from a mobile telephone or other originator terminal that is utilizable external to a premises serviced by the switch and does not have an extension associated with any internal endpoint serviced by the switch. The switch attempts to map an identifier associated with the incoming call to a corresponding entry in a stored list of external endpoints registered with the switch. If the identifier has a corresponding entry on the list, the switch processes the incoming call such that it appears to the destination terminal as being originated by an assigned internal extension. For example, an internal alerting indicator and associated station display may be provided at the destination terminal.

Abstract: The invention relates, inter alia, to a method in which an identifier is assigned to a terminal, said identifier being independent of an operator who operates the terminal. In a switching device, the identifier is used to determine a service providing program by means of which a communications service can be used from the terminal. For the service providing program which is determined, settings are then made as a function of the operator who operates the terminal.

Abstract: The present invention comprises methods for efficiently identifying international outbound calls, in the telecommunications network (TN) of the outgoing country, which should be screened as possibly requiring processing according to a Global Virtual Network Service (GVNS), as opposed to conventional international long distance (ILD) call processing. In particular, the present invention is directed to outbound international GVNS calls, known as “on-net,” which are from one GVNS location to another GVNS location of the same customer. International calls that are not Outbound International GVNS On-net calls, referred to as Other ILD calls, include at least three types: standard ILD, non-GVNS data and international GVNS off-net calls. Standard ILD, non-GVNS data calls and international GVNS off-net calls all have a routing number which comprises a country code (CC) followed by a national number (NN).

  • Patent number: 6529595
Abstract: A second network such as an interexchange carrier advantageously identifies incorrect original number portability data from the first network such as a local telephone company and obtains new number portability data to prevent misrouted calls. The second network receives original number portability data from the first network. The second network determines whether to use the original number portability data from the first network for call routing. If the original number portability data from the first network is not used for call routing, the second network generates and transmits a query to obtain new number portability data for call routing. The second network receives the new number portability data for call routing in response to the query. The second network then generates and transmits a route instruction using the new number portability data.

Abstract: Call progress analysis is performed in a telephone system employing different in-band signaling plans are used. From address information for a call destination in a call initiation message, it is determined which type of in-band signaling plans is utilized by equipment associated with the call destination, for example by examining country codes in a dialed telephone number. Based upon the determined signaling plan type, a corresponding type of call progress analysis resource is selected and allocated for use with the call. The analysis resource may include a digital signal processor (DSP) programmed with an analysis routine tailored to the determined signaling plan. The DSP may be pre-programmed with such a routine or may be loaded at call time with analysis parameters appropriate to the signaling plan. The telephone system may employ a packet network and packet-based telephony transmission, a media gateway controller or a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) proxy server, an a media server.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an internet address system formed by introducing E.164 number system of the ITU-T or a zip code system to IPv6 address system, and a hierarchical routing method using the same. Thus, a user can easily find an IPv6 address of a user terminal by his/her telephone number. It is also possible to assign the IPv6 addresses relating to about twenty million telephone numbers in the country. The telephone numbers can be well linked to the IPv6 addresses, so that an internet provider can easily design and assign the IPv6 addresses. In addition, a hierarchical routing process is carried out by using the E.164 number system, thereby reducing a routing time and improving a routing speed. Moreover, it is easy to find out the internet address of the user terminal by the subscriber address. The subscriber address can also be found out by the internet address of the subscriber.

Abstract: A telephone call logging system includes a database containing identifiers and optionally call control limitations assigned to the identifiers. Call control limitations may include budgetary, time, geographic, and other limitations to a call. A telephone line is subscribed to the system, and users of the line are provided identifiers which may have one or more of the call control limitations. When making an outgoing call, the telephone network queries the database and determine whether the telephone line is subscribed. If the telephone is subscribed, the telephone network communicates with a server which requests the user to enter the identifier. It is then determined which, if any, call control limitations, are placed upon the user and whether and for how long the call can be connected. The call and its disposition are recorded in a log preferably accessible via the Internet.
