Patent number: 5136690Abstract: A computer is provided with the facility to display in map form, directed data associated with respective nodes. The operation of the mapping facility is initiated in response to the user entering an appropriate command. Specifically, responsive to the command, the computer displays a plurality of symbols representing respective ones of the nodes such that those symbols which exchange data are connected to one another by a displayed link formed from two half-line segments each indicative of the direction and level of data associated with its respective symbol. In addition, a plurality of tools are displayed for controlling the parameters used in the display of the symbols and links. For example, the user is provided with the capability to change the length of the half-line segments, and is provided with the capability to erase from the display those segments representing data values which are not within a range of data thresholds established by the user operating a threshold tool.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1991Date of Patent: August 4, 1992Assignee: AT&T Bell LaboratoriesInventors: Richard A. Patent number: 5003575Abstract: A method and apparatus for storing and forwarding voice signals wherein a user has increased control and flexibility in distributing voice signals. In one embodiment the originator of a stored voice signal may restrict an addressee's ability to forward a message to other users. In another, the originator may limit the addressee's ability to use the voice store and forward system until such time as the addressee responds to a stored voice signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1987Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Inventors: David B. Patent number: 4914689Abstract: A reverse number identification system is described which allows the called party in a telephone link to identify the telephone directory number of the calling party. This system includes a first system component located at the customer's premises which includes a display for the calling party's directory number. A second system component includes equipment connected to the calling party's telephone line located in the calling party's central office which transmits upon request the directory number of the calling party to the first system component. Each subscriber's telephone line in the central office has a microprocessor controlled transceiver placed between the incoming subscriber's telephone line and the central office switching equipment. Each subscriber's premises includes a first system component designed to receive and display the calling party's telephone number. In operation, the calling party dials the directory number of the called party and the called party responds by answering.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1987Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: Bell Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Co.Inventors: Robert C. Patent number: 4888797Abstract: A detachably attachable protection device for use with a circuit routed to a DSX panel or the like in a telephone switching station includes a fixed plate having apertures for visual access to a light associated with the circuit, an aperture for access to a monitor jack and a pivotable plate connected to the fixed plate for selectively providing access to jacks for rerouting the circuit. The lift tab may be incorporated to assist in positioning the pivotable plate. In a variant protection device, a plurality of pivotable plates secured to a common fixed plate may be employed to individually protect all circuits routed to a DSX panel.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1987Date of Patent: December 19, 1989Inventor: Clifford C. Strait, Jr.

Patent number: 4866758Abstract: The present invention relates to a technique for providing phone management (PM) services to personal computers (PCs) which are end users of a PC-only Local Area Network (LAN) by logically associating voice terminals of a separate voice and data Network, e.g., a Private Branch Exchange (PBX), with the PCs. To provide the PM services, a PM server device is provided as an interface between the PC and PBX Networks onto which are bridged appearances of the logically associated voice terminals. The PM server device includes hardware and PM server application software that perform routing and translations between (1) PM messages of the PC-LAN which use a first PM signaling protocol, and (2) PM messages of the PBX which use a second signaling protocol. Each end user PC of the PC-LAN that is logically associated with a voice terminal on a PBX network includes PM user application software that provides a PM user interface and terminates the first PM signaling protocol.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1988Date of Patent: September 12, 1989Assignees: American Telephone and Telegraph Company, AT&T Bell LaboratoriesInventor: Karl A. Patent number: 4829563Abstract: The present invention describes a method and apparatus for predictive dialing in a multi-operator telephone system which improves the productivity of operators while simultaneously reduces customer "unattended" calls. These objectives are achieved by generating a prediction of the number of operators expected to be available at the end of a predetermined time interval in the future, as well as a prediction of the number of calls expected to be successfully completed during that time interval. The predicted number of calls is then weighted by an "weighting" factor which is controlled by variations in the percentage of unattended calls and variations in the average operator idle-time between calls. The system dynamically adjusts the number of calls dialed based on short term comparisons of the weighted predicted number of calls versus the predicted number of operators, and based on periodic adjustment of the weighting factor.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1988Date of Patent: May 9, 1989Assignee: Teknekron Infoswitch CorporationInventors: Gary B. Patent number: 4805205Abstract: A method and a device for establishing communication between several persons distant from one another. The method allows, by means of an appropriate spatial multiplexing, speech signals and signalling signals to be transmitted simultaneously between at least two stations ST1, ST2 connected together by a special connection. Each station comprises at least one communication unit U' comprising a microphone, a badge reader identifying a person, and a synoptic panel representing the geographical situation of the stations of a same network by display constituted by diodes and the illumination state of which indicates the state of each station of the network during a conference.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1987Date of Patent: February 14, 1989Inventor: Andre Faye

Patent number: 4754475Abstract: A detector identification device is provided on the premises of the called elephone station capable of detecting network telephone signals, converting them to digital signals and displaying the digital signals. The device is also capable of providing ringing and other calling signals to the called telephone station. The telephone exchange serving the called telephone station is programmed to initiate a back signaling process to the exchange serving the calling telephone station. In addition, the device transmits back signals used to request and thus complete the identification of the calling telephone station from the telephone network.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1987Date of Patent: June 28, 1988Assignee: Sonintel Sociedade Nacional de Industria de Telecomunicacoes Ltda.Inventors: Jose P. Patent number: 4744103Abstract: A multi-link communication system includes a number of stations and interconnecting audio links under the control of a central computer. Each station is addressable by the computer for connecting selected stations to a selected audio link for establishing audio communication between stations. Each station has at least one corresponding access circuit for establishing an audio connection to a selected or preassigned link, and the connection is maintained by a corresponding memory circuit that is addressable by the computer. A group of output lines from the computer are used as select inputs to an analog multiplexer connecting a bidirectional control line to the selected access circuit for connecting or disconnecting the corresponding station and also for receiving connect or disconnect requests from the corresponding station. In a particular embodiment, the stations include multi-link dial and dialless telephones, single-link dialless telephones, and intercom speakers in an automatic private branch exchange.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1985Date of Patent: May 10, 1988Assignee: Rauland-Borg CorporationInventors: James E.
