  • Patent number: 10148389
Abstract: Various embodiments associated with a reference signal are described. When a set of user information embedded with a reference signal is received by a system, a classification of the signal may not be known by the system. Therefore, the system can determine a classification of the reference signal. The reference signal can be passed through a low-pass filter and then an algorithm can be employed to identify the classification of the reference signal. Once the classification of the reference signal is known, the user information can be better used by the system.

A telecommunications switch is provisioned with a trigger that operates based on a service prefix code in a service invocation message. Calling events that include various service prefix codes that match trigger firing criteria cause the trigger to execute call control logic within the telecommunications switch to forward information concerning the service invocation to the distribution center. The distribution center matches a service provider with a prefix code in conjunction with the forwarded information and forwards the service invocation to the appropriate service provider. The service invocation message may include a service code that indicates the specific service requested.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for in-band control signaling using bandwidth distributed encoding to send modulated control carrier signals with analog voice signals in the same voice frequency band. A transmitting device generates control carrier signals spread over a voice frequency band, combines them with analog voice signals in the voice frequency band, and transmits the combined signals over a communication channel. The transmitting device can use a control signal encoder to apply a pseudo-random code to the control carrier signal in order to spread it over a voice frequency band. As such, control signals are sent as in-band signals without significantly degrading the voice signals. A receiving device receives the combined signals within the voice frequency band. The receiving device demodulates the combined signal and uses matching pseudo-random codes to determine if a control signal has been sent. The receiving device also reproduces the voice signals themselves.

Abstract: Disclosed is an electronic device utility method (200), including receiving a first identifying address data input (202) via a data input device (114), initiating a first communication to the first identifying address (204), and ending the first communication to the first identifying address (206). The method includes receiving second identifying address data input (208) to initiate a second communication and determining if a predetermined condition (210) is met in ending the first communication. The second identifying address is associated with the first identifying address (214) when the second communication is initiated within a predetermined length of time from the ending of the first communication. The association between the first and second addresses is stored in a memory of the electronic device (216). The association is retrieved (406) when a subsequent communication is initiated to the first associated identifying address (402).

Abstract: A technique is disclosed for receiving call-control data, often from a variety of sources; processing the data into a format, content, and size that is appropriate for a telecommunications endpoint; and transmitting the processed call-control data to the endpoint. The personal profile manager of the illustrative embodiment is what first acquires the call-control data, which includes a dialing plan. The manager also reformats the call-control data and deletes redundant data. Subsequently, when a request is received from an endpoint, the personal profile manager further processes the call-control data and then transmits, to the requesting endpoint, the portion of the processed data that is appropriate for the endpoint. Transmitting the call-control data to the endpoint offloads some of the processing from the supporting call-processing server, as the data that constitute call-control rules that are used by the endpoint to make call-control decisions.

Abstract: A portable telephone maintenance service system and maintenance service method for backup control of a portable telephone set, to make it possible to prevent misuse by third persons and to perform data restoration service. A maintenance service center is connected to an exchange network and by a backup control request, that includes the portable telephone number and a code number from the person who lost the portable telephone set, dialing is done from the maintenance service center to the lost portable telephone set. Memory dial data, mail address data, and other data from the memory of the portable telephone set is saved to backup memory and the data in the memory of the portable telephone set is erased. Upon a backup control request when the portable telephone set is recovered, data is downloaded from the backup memory to the memory of the portable telephone set.

Abstract: A central directory system for a network of dial-up communication devices is described. In a preferred embodiment, the communication devices are videoconferencing devices. The system includes a directory management module coupled to the network and configured for importing and exporting directory information to and from a communication device. The directory information received by the management module can be grouped into address books by an access control module coupled to a database in which the address books can be stored. The access control module is further functional to manage access to the address books. Embodiments of the directory system provide systems and methods for providing intelligent dialing service to the dial-up communication device. A dialing algorithm determines a dialing sequence to connect communication devices through a network based on geographic dialing rules and information related to the requesting device.

  • Patent number: 7106842
Abstract: A system and method for detecting cut-off of calls in a switching system records data corresponding to connection of a call in a first memory, records the call connection data in a second memory, and then at a later time and, for example, in response to a call release request compares the data in the two memories corresponding to the call. If the data does match, it is determined that the call has been cut-off. The first memory may be located in a switching unit and the second memory may be located in a processor which controls the switching unit. The switching unit may be a time switch or a space switch. Once a call cut-off is detected, the processor transmits information notifying an operator of the cut-off. The system and method represents an improvement over existing systems in terms of increased reliability and ease of repair and maintenance of system components.

Abstract: A digital direct access arrangement (DAA) circuitry may be used to terminate the telephone connections at the user's end that provides a communication path for signals to and from the phone lines. Briefly described, the DAA provides a programmable means for the DC termination for a variety of international phone standards. The invention may also be utilized with means for transmitting and receiving a signal across a capacitive isolation barrier. More particularly, a DC holding circuit is provided in which a programmable DC current limiting mode is available. In the current limiting mode, power may be dissipated in devices external to a DAA integrated circuit. Moreover, much of the power may be dissipated in external passive devices, such as resistors.

Abstract: An apparatus for transmitting charging signals on a data transmission path having a line impedance includes a driver device for setting a line voltage level that corresponds to the line impedance. The driver device is configured to provide, in response to a driver input voltage level, a driver output current and a driver output voltage level. A current detection unit provides a current signal indicative of the driver output current and a current signal matching unit receives the current signal from the current detection unit and adjusts a level of the current signal for further processing by a filter device and by a regulation device. A matching filter unit then matches the driver device to a data transmission path unit.

Abstract: A multi-modal address book for a customer associated with at least one account in an electronic communications environment is provided. The multi-modal address book is associated with a customized profile of the customer and has multiple entries. Each entry of the multi-modal address book is associated with a communications partner and includes at least one address. Information of a centrally stored copy of the address book is automatically synchronized with a copy of the address book provided at a remote communications device when information of an entry is altered at either the centrally stored address book or the copy of the address book. An indicator can be stored in association with at least one of the entries of the address book. The indicator indicates that an address book of a communications partner corresponding to an entry is to be automatically updated when the profile of the customer is altered. The updating occurs without regard to the modality used to communicate with the stored address.

The line appearance is monitored to detect ringing tone received at the line appearance within a first period of time from call origination. If ringing tone is not detected at the line appearance within the first period of time, receipt of answer supervision is indicated. If ringing tone is detected at the line appearance within the first period of time, the timing for the first period of time is canceled and timing for a second period of time is started from the cancellation of timing for the first time period.
