  • Patent number: 6205221
Abstract: A panel for mounting telecommunications equipment has an insulating body and a grounding strip to provide ground connection to the telecommunications equipment. The grounding strip has a panel portion for mounting the grounding strip to the insulating body and a mounting portion bending away from the insulating body and having one or more mounting holes for mounting the panel to external structure to enable the panel to be mounted to the external structure without requiring spacers to prevent overstress to the insulating material. In one implementation, the panel is a protector panel for receiving five-pin plug-in protectors that provide electrical isolation between multi-wire cabling and telephones and other types of telecommunications equipment.

  • Patent number: 5912948
Abstract: A method and apparatus for screening an incoming telephone call from a caller on an external telephone line connected to an answering device for recording the call includes inserting into the telephone line a circuit comprising a voltage sensitive device and a bridging device for allowing a handset of a telephone set connected to the telephone line and remote from the answering device to be picked up to listen to the call. The handset of the telephone set is picked up to enable a speaker component of the telephone set without interrupting operation of the answering device. The incoming call is listened to via the enabled speaker component while the answering device operates. A microphone component of the telephone set is optionally enabled to speak with the caller. The operation of the answering device may be interrupted by pressing a switch.

  • Patent number: 5870465
Abstract: A telecommunications system which employs commodity simultaneous voice and data (SVD) modems to provide a user with a virtual presence to an office. A first telephony adapter is coupled between a user's home modem and a telephone. A second telephony adapter is coupled between a server modem and the PSTN. The modem data ports are coupled to the PSTN. The first adapter emulates a Central Office (CO) by ringing the telephone, detecting on and off hook conditions from the telephone and supplying line power to the telephone. The first adapter emulates a telephone to the modem voice port by detecting ringing voltages and generating on and off hook conditions. The second adapter emulates a telephone to the PSTN and emulates a telephone to the server modem voice port. The modems establish a connection which enables the user to access a LAN in the office. The home telephone number is forwarded to the server modem and when a call is placed to the user, the call is forwarded by the PSTN to the server adapter.
