Patent number: 5410597Abstract: A telephone device with a handset that fits in a cradle cavity so that the outer surface of the handset is approximately flush with the surface of the cradle. A spring-loaded ejector in the cradle urges the handset against a movable tab on the cradle, that engages a lip on the handset and secures the handset in the cradle. When the tab is moved clear of the lip, the spring-loaded ejector forces the handset out of the cradle so that the handset may be grasped easily by a user, to prevent unexpected complete ejection of the handset. A tongue on the ejector engages a lip on the handset as it is ejected, so that the user must exert a small amount of additional force to remove the handset from the cradle.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1993Date of Patent: April 25, 1995Assignee: Claircom Communications Group, L.P.Inventors: Walter R. Patent number: 5187744Abstract: A hand-held portable telephone holder for releasably holding a hand-held portable car telephone has two laterally adjustable fingers disposed upon one side of a substantially planar body and two spring biased fingers pivotally disposed upon the opposite side of the body such that a hand-held portable telephone may be positioned intermediate the first and second fingers and grasped under spring tension thereby. The hand-held portable telephone is disposed intermediate the first and second fingers by first placing the hand-held portable telephone in contact with the second fingers and utilizing the hand-held portable telephone to urge the second fingers to pivot outwardly against spring tension, thus increasing the distance between the first and second fingers. The hand-held portable telephone is then disposed in laminar juxtaposition to the body of the holder.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1992Date of Patent: February 16, 1993Inventor: Gary L. Richter

Patent number: 5181242Abstract: A quick release latching mechanism is provided for restraining a handset of a telephone set. Easily adaptable to fit most existing telephone sets with minimal modifications, the latching mechanism is also easily manufactured, yet satisfies existing safety requirements by being able to restrain the handset during harsh operating conditions. The handset is securely restrained in the handset cradle of a telephone set base by a floating toggle type latch which is balanced around its pivot point and is the only moving part in the quick release latching mechanism. A coil spring is provided to return this latch to its closed position. Any shock forces encountered by the latch are not absorbed or counterbalanced by the spring force since these shock forces are applied in a direction normal to the force exerted by the spring. The spring force, therefore, does not secure the latch in the closed position. Rathr it simply serves to return the latch to this position when the latch is permitted to move freely.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1990Date of Patent: January 19, 1993Assignee: AT&T Bell LaboratoriesInventor: Larry D.
