Abstract: An embodiment electronic circuit includes an electronic switch comprising a load path, and a control circuit configured to drive the electronic switch. The control circuit is configured to operate in one of a first operation mode and a second operation mode based at least on a level of a load current of the electronic switch. In the first operation mode the control circuit is configured to generate a first protection signal based on a current-time-characteristic of the load current and drive the electronic switch based on the first protection signal. The control circuit is configured to generate a status signal such that the status signal has a wakeup pulse when the operation mode changes from the second operation mode to the first operation mode and, after the wakeup pulse, a signal level representing a level of the load current.

Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for connecting a device to subscriptions and cellular billing plans of separate users and for managing the concurrent use of the device by the separate users. A computer-implemented method comprises enrolling a device in a cellular subscription and billing plan of a user. The enrollment includes providing an identifier for the device to a cellular subscription, effectively adding the device to the cellular subscription and billing plan selected by the user. The method and system allows the user to use capabilities of the device as governed by the cellular subscription and an associated billing plan as selected by that user, while the device is also available for use by another user via another cellular billing plan, as selected by that user.

Abstract: The present invention allows for dynamic association of a computational device, such as a personal computer or personal digital assistant, with a telephone terminal. A computer-telephone adaptor or like function implemented in a telephony switch or other telephony device will receive authentication indicia. The authentication indicia may be provided by the computational device that is to be associated with the telephone terminal, or through other means. The authentication indicia may be provided by a user or generated by the computational device or by other means. To confirm the association, the user must enter confirmatory authentication indicia corresponding to the original authentication indicia through the telephone terminal.

Abstract: A data management tool is provided. The tool comprises a first processor, a server application that, when executed on the first processor, manages allocation of equipment serial numbers (ESNs) used in executing test cases related to mobile devices, aggregates test progress data in a defect board, maintains a test chat forum, and sends a notification of a defect when the defect is reported to the server application, a second processor, and a thick client that, when executed on the second processor, receives the notification of the defect, participates in the test chat forum and requests one of the equipment serial numbers from the server application.

Abstract: A shared-use portable telephone has a ROM, RAM and control sections. The ROM section comprises a password area for holding passwords and a personal information area for holding personal information. The password and personal information areas include respective sub-areas that a plurality of users can utilize, respectively, based on their passwords. The control section copies the personal information stored in the personal information sub-areas to the RAM section that the users use in common and then to the personal information sub-area of the ROM section. The personal information sub-areas of the ROM section are used independently of each other, one for each user and never for any other user. Every time the portable telephone is used, the information stored in the RAM section is copied into the specific area of the ROM section. Each user can access his or her personal information, but cannot access the personal information of the other users.

In the method, the right of access to the operating system is determined on the basis of a user identifier and a password associated with it. Moreover, a user profile is formed, said profile comprising one or more user identifiers and having a predetermined validity period. According to the method, a validity parameter associated with the user data is decreased on the basis of elapsed time and/or the number of log-on times and/or the weighting values of the commands entered.

Abstract: A wireless key (6), capable of transmitting an ultra-low frequency radio wave signal (5), is used to gain access to a secure receptacle (1), the wireless key (6) and receptacle (1) comprising a system to ensure the secure transfer or delivery of items between parties typically engaging in e-commerce. The wireless key (6) possesses a means to discriminate against the unauthorized entry of the receptacle, such as through the use of buttons to enter a secure access code. The wireless key (6) accepts an access code entry from the user desiring entry to the receptacle (1) and subsequently transmits an ultra-low frequency signal (5) to a receiving and processing means (4). If the analysis of the signal indicates the user of the wireless key (6) is authorized to gain entry to the receptacle (1), the receptacle's locking mechanism (3) is disengaged to allow entry.

Abstract: A method operationally associates a participant's telephone connection to a conference call system with a data connection via the Internet world wide web from the participant's computer screen to the conference call system. The conference call system establishes voice connections between itself and multiple conference call participants. The method comprises the steps of (1) generating a unique temporary code when a data connection is established between the participant and the conference call system, (2) displaying the code over the data connection to the participant on that participant's computer screen, and (3) instructing the participant to enter the code over his telephone connection to the conference call system. Four respectively different scenarios based upon the same underlying method include web then dial-in, dial-in then web, dial-out then web, and web then dial-out.

Abstract: In a Computer Telephony Integration environment, to reduce the risk of inadvertent or fraudulent registration of the association of a user's computer terminal with the wrong telephone, i.e. one other than the telephone adjacent to the computer terminal or the user's mobile telephone, a host computer instructs the user via a screen display to call a particular extension of a CTI-enabled PABX. When a call to that extension is detected, the PABX treats the call as having been answered, and reports this to the host computer. The user is now instructed to dial a codeword, and when this is received at the PABX and reported to the host computer, the telephone is registered as associated with the computer terminal provided that the reported codeword matches the codeword provided to the user. A number of variants and refinements provide for greater security against fraudulent registration.

Abstract: An authentication system is applied for a voice network in order to provide the same security as that attained by a data network. Provided is a voice network access system wherein a one-time password system, which is used as an access authentication system, is applied for a voice network that is constituted by an private automatic branch exchange that includes an external interface; wherein the private automatic branch exchange is connected to a computer telephony server across the external interface for the exchange of sender number information that is received from a public network; and wherein the private automatic branch exchange is also connected via the external interface to an authentication system server, which receives a user's name from the computer telephony server and performs a personal authentication process using the user's name.

Abstract: A client/server interface enables a user to provide information to a server relating to a change in the status of a network resource. The user also identifies an intended recipient of a notification message regarding the status of the network resource. The server then automatically handles the transmission of a notification message to the designated recipient or group of recipients.

Abstract: An emergency breakthrough system allows users to break through a busy signal, using an automated rather than operator assisted technique. Upon receipt of a busy signal, rather than hanging up and dialing an operator to gain a manual assistance for third party call breakthrough, the calling party is able to keypad an enablement request, such as *85, requesting emergency call breakthrough. After that entry, the system awaits a breakthrough passcode, such as a four digit number, which if validated permits the user to breakthrough the busy signal and reach the called party, without operator intervention. Predesignated numbers can gain automated access by ANI identity of the calling number.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically tailoring a communication device to suit the user's preferences based on the user's identity includes storing a plurality reference signatures and associated operational profiles. When a user supplies a proffered signature to the communication device, the proffered signature is compared to the stored reference signatures. If a match is found, the communication device is configured according to the operational profile associated with the matched reference signature. If no match is found, normal operation of the communication device is preferably inhibited. The proffered and reference signatures may be conventional manually entered passwords, spoken voice patterns, writing samples, fingerprints, and the like. The present invention allows a single apparatus to be used by a plurality of users under one service subscription and telephone number as well as under a plurality of subscriptions and telephone numbers.

Abstract: A verification code from a telephone terminal which requests a call forwarding service is registered into a switching system. When a call forwarding service establishing number is dialed from an arbitrary telephone terminal, the arbitrary telephone terminal is prompted to dial the registered verification code and a telephone number thereof. The switching system checks the dialed verification code against the registered verification code. If they coincide with each other, the switching system prompts the arbitrary telephone terminal to dial a call forwarding service establishing special number, the telephone number of the telephone terminal registered in the service and a forwarding destination telephone number, and then establishes a call forwarding service setup for the telephone terminal registered in the service.
