Abstract: Belt mangles, in which a revolvingly driven mangle belt runs along on the outside of the mangle body which is curved in a trough-like manner, convey in an entrained manner laundry items to be mangled along a smooth flattening face of the mangle body. Slippage between the mangle belt and the laundry items, which causes the quality of mangling to suffer, can occur. A mangle belt is provided with a structured outer face to bear on the laundry items to be entrained. The outer face is formed from a needled felt from highly temperature-resistant man-made fibers. On account of the structuring of the outer face of the mangle belt, a rough entrainment face or adhesion face, respectively, for the laundry items, that ensures slippage-free entrainment of the laundry items by the mangle belt while conveying the laundry items along the flattening face of the mangle body, is created.

  • Publication number: 20010054243
Abstract: A calender having a heated first roll which is opposed to and forms a nip with a soft surface counter roll system comprised of a second roll which has an outer shell. An endless polyurethane belt or blanket having an inside diameter 5 to 50 mm larger than the outside diameter of the second roll shell, is mounted about the second roll. The outer circumferential edges of the polyurethane belt are held by clamping rings to bearings which are circumferentially mounted about the second roll on the roller gables. A small quantity of oil may be placed between the surface of the second roll shell and the polyurethane belt.

  • Patent number: 4860466
Abstract: Laundry ironing apparatus comprises sequential ironing rolls each associated with an ironing bed. A first conveyer feeds fresh laundry to the inlet zone of the first ironing roll and a scraper removes the pressed laundry from the periphery of the first roll at the outlet zone of such first roll onto a second conveyer which withdraws the pressed laundry from the outlet zone of the first ironing and feeds it into the inlet of the second roll which is located adjacent to the outlet zone of the first roll. The second conveyer withdraws and feeds in first and second stages, the first of which overlies the second roll and the second of which extends back under the first stage to the inlet zone of the second roll. The combined lengths of the first and second stages are such that pressed laundry is completely withdrawn from the first roll before it is fed to the second roll.

  • Patent number: 4599814
Abstract: In the case of common trough mangles (1) used for the smoothing and drying of wet laundry pieces (11) wherein the hollow rollers (2) provided with roller wrappings (3) are only partially surrounded by heated pressing troughs (4, 5), a considerable amount of energy is wasted due to the absorption of cooler room air. In order to eliminate the cause of this deficiency, the invention proposes to cover the free area of the hollow roller (2) with a hood (6), whose rims (9) are sealed against the roller wrapping (3). The exhaust (8) of the steam is removed directly from the hood (6). This way, inside the hood (6) clean saturated steam is obtained and superheated, when the absorption from the hood (6) takes place in counterflow with regard to the travel of the laundry pieces (11). This superheated saturated steam is especially suitable as operating means for washing machines or the like.

  • Patent number: 4489511
Abstract: A laundry ironing system, comprising a pre-drying cylinder and at least one mangle cylinder and trough unit, in which a flowable heat carrier medium in the form of live steam that circulates through the mangle cylinder and trough unit and then through the pre-drying cylinder is depressurized within the pre-drying cylinder to generate flash steam which precipitates on the internal surface of the pre-drying cylinder when condensing, thus heating the pre-drying cylinder. The present invention is also directed to such a method of heating the pre-drying cylinder, by collecting the flowable heat carrier medium in the form of live steam, and directing the medium inside the pre-drying cylinder where the heat carrier medium is depressurized, resulting in the formation of flash steam precipitating on the internal surface of the pre-drying cylinder. The heat carrier medium is then withdrawn from the pre-drying cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4457087
Abstract: A method for operating a steam trough mangle wherein exhaust air is separated into recirculating air and discharge air with the recirculating air remaining in the air circulation system of the mangle while the discharge air is subjected to a heat transfer process. The recirculating air and fresh air heated by the discharge air are both fed to a trough area of the mangle. The mangle or hot bed ironer in which this method may be carried out includes an air discharging apparatus inside a mangle area that is almost completely enclosed which is connected with a suctioning apparatus for exhausting air and also with the first flow chamber of associated heat transfer means. The heat transfer means has a second flow chamber connected to the suctioning apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4454668
Abstract: An apparatus for ironing laundry which comprises a heated, rotatable cylinder for pre-drying laundry to be ironed which is situated in an enclosed area to conserve heat. Laundry is directed around this pre-drying cylinder by a complementary pair of guiding conveyor belts and is then transferred to at least one cylinder and corresponding mangle trough for ironing. Laundry is directed through the mangle troughs and cylinders by means of an additional guiding belt.

  • Patent number: 4432149
Abstract: A multi-roll calender ironing machine for laundry flatwork comprises a plurality of heated ironing beds, each defining a concave ironing surface which cooperates with a padded ironing roller, whereby a laundry workpiece is fed into the nip between the roller and ironing surface in order to perform the ironing operation. Pneumatic actuating cylinders urge the ironing bed towards the roller in an adjustable manner so as to vary contact roller to ironing surface pressure. Micro-switch units determine the presence or absence of laundry workpiece en route to the ironing roller and operate the actuating cylinders whereby a relatively high roller to concave surface pressure is provided when a workpiece is present and a relatively low roller to concave surface pressure is provided when a workpiece is absent.

  • Patent number: 4288934
Abstract: An ironing mangle for pressing fabric includes a heating member or shoe which transfers heat to a fabric conveyed thereover. The heating member includes a concave surface which forms a substantially semi-cylindrical cut-out section over which the fabric is conveyed and at least one other surface over which the fabric is also conveyed for maximizing the heat transfer from the heating member to the fabric. The concave surface preferably includes two end edges which are arranged so that the angle between the plane connecting the end edges and a vertical plane passing through either of the end edges is in the range of 0.degree. to 30.degree.. The ironing mangle further includes a cylindrical pressing roller for applying pressure to the concave surface, in which the roller is adapted to rotate about its central axis in order to convey the fabric over the concave surface when applying pressure thereagainst.
