  • Patent number: 8688993
Abstract: In watermarked signal decoding, the embedded message is decoded by correlating the reference patterns with the watermarked signal. The watermark detector decides, depending on the size of the correlation result values, whether or not a given reference pattern was embedded. However, decoding watermarked audio or video signals is difficult if the link between the watermark encoder and the watermark decoder is not a digital one, for example an acoustic path. A re-sampler control unit controls the sampling frequency of a re-sampler, in connection with a watermark decoder that outputs, in addition to the watermark information bits, a corresponding confidence value that is derived from the correlation result and that is used for synchronizing the re-sampler sampling frequency with the original sampling frequency of the watermarked signal. The synchronization processing includes a search mode and a synchronized mode.

  • Patent number: 8514915
Abstract: Coverage for a wireless network is improved using a frequency shifting scheme. A wireless signal in a frequency band is shifted to another band, and carried in the shifted band to another location where the signal is shifted back to the original frequency band. The frequency shifting may utilize frequency shifting schemes such as mixer/filter and heterodyne. The wireless signal can be frequency shifted by converting it to other representing signals (such as I/Q components) and forming the frequency-shifted signal from the representations. The transmission medium may use dedicated wiring or existing service wiring in a residence or building, including LAN, telephone, AC power and CATV wiring. The system may be enclosed as a stand-alone unit, housed in integrated form as part of a service outlet or as a snap-on/plug-in module.

  • Patent number: 7409060
Abstract: A digital watermarking technique is disclosed, in which image data are converted to frequency components through discrete wavelet transform and quantized into a set of quantized coefficients, which are then divided into a plurality of blocks. A digital watermark is embedded in the quantized coefficients by performing ON/OFF adjustment of bit information, such that the relation between natural number T and the bit information defined by N (N is an even number) significant bits Qnm (x, y) of the m-th bit plane of the n-th block satisfies the ON state represented by equation (1), or the OFF state represented by equation (2), depending on whether the hash value of the n-th block is odd or even. Then the quantized coefficients are encoded to produce a code stream.

  • Patent number: 6597789
Abstract: Conventional decoding systems for scrambled audio-visual signals are improved by providing a dual-side local oscillator that functions as a high-side oscillator if the incoming RF signal is unscrambled and as a low-side oscillator if the incoming RF signal is scrambled. The result is that the unscrambled signal is reversed from an audio-over-video transmission configuration to an IF signal with a video-over-audio configuration, and a scrambled signal is maintained in a video-over-audio configuration, the video-over-audio configuration being the configuration required for proper reception and use of the signal by a television set. To function as both a high- and low-side oscillator, the dual-side oscillator has independent voltage control and does not follow the tracking filter associated with the tuner.

  • Patent number: 6519340
Abstract: A method and apparatus of encrypting optical images using binarization or phase only information is presented with a number of ways to secure the image also being provided. An image to be encrypted is first multiplied by a random phase function. The Fourier transform of the product of the image and the random phase function is then multiplied by another random phase function in the Fourier (or Fresnel) domain. Taking the inverse Fourier (or Fresnel) transform, an encrypted image in the output plane is obtained. Alternatively, the image to be encrypted can be phase encoded and then encrypted to provide an extra level or security. The image can be secured using one key in the Fourier or Fresnel domain followed by phase extraction. This encrypted image may then binarized, which may include binarizing the phase-only part of the encrypted image. The use of binarization enables ease of implementation and data compression while still providing recovery of images having good quality.
