Abstract: A sonic signal encodes a symbol sequence representing a binary message, for delivery as audio content. The binary message into a sequence of symbols that are each associated with frequency characteristics transmitted over a time period. Two carriers are transmitted at two selected frequencies during each time period, delivering the binary data at a high rate. The symbol sequence is preceded by a prefix which takes the form of a sweeping frequency tone which sweeps over the frequency ranges of the carriers. Further, the amplitudes of the carriers are adjusted so that higher frequency transmissions are transmitted at higher sound pressure levels. Methods for synchronizing to the symbol sequence and decoding the symbol sequence are also described.

One of the multiple pieces of media content within the received media signal are identified. It is determined that the identified piece of media content exceeds a threshold length, and, in response to determining that the identified piece of media content exceeds a threshold length, the audio signal of the identified piece of media content is encoded with a sequence of discrete codes. Each discrete code has a period that includes a set of sequential frequency components imperceptible to humans. The threshold length is greater than the period of a discrete code multiplied by the number of discrete codes in the sequence.

A control word to be encrypted is received by the client and encrypted using a first and second key. The first key is a global secret key (GSK) that is known to the client and the server without being communicated over the secure connection. The second key is a control word encryption key (CWEK) that is derived from a locally generated client nonce (CN) and a server nonce (SN) obtained from the server over the secure connection. The encrypted control word (ECW) is sent to the server over the secure connection.

  • Patent number: 9241186
Abstract: A system for securely providing adaptive bit rate streaming media content on-demand may include a security sever of a program distributor that selects, based on a received authorized request, which of a differently encrypted stored versions of a “special segment” of the requested program to deliver to the receiving device during the transmission of the requested program. The selection may be based on a pseudo-random selection process per request for the program based on an identifier of the request associated with the remote control device. The selection of which of the differently encrypted stored versions of the “special segment” of the ordered program to deliver may be based on the current session. The secure remote then sends to the receiving device the correct decryption key for the receiving device to decrypt the particular encrypted version selected of the “special segment” to be sent to the receiving device.

  • Patent number: 9047447
Abstract: When a connection device is connected to an SD socket of an electronic device, a process setting unit of the electronic device obtains permission/inhibition information (an output signal) set forth in a permission/inhibition information setting unit of the connection device. Based on the obtained permission/inhibition information, the process setting unit identifies an execution unit whose operation is to be activated among the execution units provided in the electronic device. Then, the process setting unit instructs the identified execution unit to start operation. This realizes operation of execution units in correspondence to the permission/inhibition information.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for transmitting data for secure storage. For each of two or more data sets, a plurality of shares are generated containing a distribution of data from an encrypted version of the data set. The shares are then stored in a shared memory device, wherein a data set may be reconstructed from a threshold number of the associated plurality of shares using an associated key. Also provided are systems and methods for providing access to secured data. A plurality of shares containing a distribution of data from an encrypted version of a data set are stored in a memory device. A client is provided with a virtual machine that indicates the plurality of shares, and the capability to reconstruct the data set from the plurality of shares using an associated key.

  • Patent number: 9009482
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus are disclosed which enable flexible insertion of forensic watermarks into a digital content signal using a common customization function. The common customization function flexibly employs a range of different marking techniques that are applicable to a wide range of forensic marking schemes. These customization functions are also applicable to pre-processing and post-processing operations that may be necessary for enhancing the security and transparency of the embedded marks, as well as improving the computational efficiency of the marking process. The common customization function supports a well-defined set of operations specific to the task of forensic mark customization that can be carried out with a modest and preferably bounded effort on a wide range of devices. This is accomplished through the use of a generic transformation technique for use as a “customization” step for producing versions of content forensically marked with any of a multiplicity of mark messages.

Abstract: A number of encryption system types utilized by subscriber terminal devices currently requesting tuning to a particular switched digital video (SDV) content selection is determined in response to each change in a number of the subscriber terminals requesting tuning to the particular SDV content selection. SDV content associated with the particular SDV content selection is encrypted as either encrypted SDV content or multiply partially encrypted SDV content based upon the determined number of encryption system types beginning from a current play location indicated for the SDV content selection within an electronic program guide (EPG). Either the encrypted SDV content or the multiply partially encrypted SDV content is distributed as part of an outgoing SDV content stream to the subscriber terminals currently requesting tuning to the particular SDV content selection.

Abstract: The technology includes a method for a computing device (console) to restrict transferring information to others on the Internet. A user does not have to explicitly make a choice of having the console restrict the transferring of information to an external computing device because the technology determines that such information cannot be transferred. When an application is loaded, a NSAL is read to determine whether the application will communicate with an external computing device. A NSAL may include authorized network addresses that an application may communicate with when executing on a computing device. When the NSAL does not include any network addresses, there is no need to obtain consent from a user regarding transferring the information externally because the application does not have the capability to do so. When one or more network addresses are includes in a NSAL, consent from a user is obtained.
