Abstract: A hands free system includes: a hands free device on a vehicle; a center device disposed outside of the vehicle; and voice and data circuits. Both of the voice and data circuits are simultaneously coupled between the hands free device and the center device. The hands free device includes a microphone for inputting a voice of a passenger, and transmits a voice signal to the center device through the voice circuit. The center device receives the voice signal, and determines a parameter in relation to voice quality of the voice such that the voice quality is disposed within a predetermined range. The center device transmits the parameter to the hands free device through the data circuit. The hands free device memorizes the parameter so as to transmit the voice in accordance with the parameter.

  • Patent number: 7340070
Abstract: When selecting a specific input source that can be processed by only a second voice-data processing unit instead of an input source currently being processed by a first voice-data processing unit, a voice-data processing circuit selects and delivers an input source selected by a second analog switch to the first voice-data processing unit by using a first analog switch. Then, after the first and second voice-data processing units simultaneously process the identical input source other than the specific input source over a certain time period, the second analog switch selects and delivers the specific input source to the second voice-data processing unit and a first switch selects an output of the second voice-data processing unit and outputs a voice of the specific input source as an analog audio output.

Abstract: An electronic appliance includes a speaker which outputs a first sound wave based on a first voice signal generated from the electronic appliance, and a microphone to detect a second sound wave on which a sound wave generated for control of the electronic appliance is superimposed to output a second voice signal. A first waveform generator generates a first waveform signal based on the first voice signal, and a second waveform generator generates a second waveform signal based on the second voice signal. A waveform shaping unit outputs a third waveform signal in which the first waveform signal is enlarged in a time axis direction, and a subtracter subtracts the third waveform signal from the second waveform signal.

Abstract: The present invention provides a voice coder for voice communication that employs a multi-microphone system as part of an improved approach to enhancing signal quality and improving the signal to noise ratio for such voice communications, where there is a special relationship between the position of a first microphone and a second microphone to provide the communication device with certain advantageous physical and acoustic properties. In addition, the communication device can have certain physical characteristics, and design features. In a two microphone arrangement, the first microphone is located in a location directed toward the speech source, while the second microphone is located in a location that provides a voice signal with significantly lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

Abstract: Techniques to enhance voice signals in a dual microphone system are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, there are at least two microphones that are positioned in a pre-configured array. Two audio signals x1(k) and x2(k) are received and coupled to an adjusting module that is provided to control the gain of each of the audio signals x1(k) and x2(k) to minimize signal differences between the two signals. A separation module is provided to receive matched audio signals x?1(k) and x?2(k) from the adjusting module. The separation module separates the audio signals x?1(k) and x?2(k) to obtain a first audio signal s(k) containing mainly the voice and a second audio signal n(k) containing mainly the noise. An adaptive filtering module is provided to eliminate the noise component in the audio signal s(k) to obtain an estimated voice signal e_s(k) with a higher S/N ratio. Furthermore, the adaptive filtering module can be also configured to suppress echo in the audio signal s(k) at same time.

  • Patent number: 6549629
Abstract: In a DVE, digital voice enhancement, communication system, the selection decision for choosing which microphone to be active is based on a given function of the speech of a respective talker relative to his/her acoustic environment at the respective microphone. The selection decision is based on a selection technique normalizing at least one of a) different microphone sensitivities and b) different background noise levels at the respective microphones, preferably based on the ratio of how much louder a talker speaks over the background noise at his/her respective microphone.

Abstract: An automatic squelch is provided within an intercom to control the gating of a microphone signal path. The automatic squelch includes an analog-to-digital converter coupled to receive an analog microphone input signal which is configured to convert the analog microphone input signal into a digital input signal. A peak detector is further provided to maintain a peak value indicative of peaks in the digital input signal. The peak value maintained by the peak detector reacts relatively quickly to changes in the digital input signal. In one implementation, when the digital input signal is larger than the peak value, the peak value is set at the level of the digital input signal. When the digital input signal is less than the peak value, the peak value is “decayed” or reduced at a relatively fast decay rate. A background noise detector is further provided for maintaining a background value indicative of background noise in the digital input signal.

Abstract: The power voltage supply for a power amplifier is switched between an operational full power mode and a reduced power mode by the switching of a dual state impedance device connected in series between the power amplifier and the power supply. A control circuit detects the level of a signal to be amplified by that amplifier and switches the impedance states thus reducing the power output capability of the power amplifier and placing the power amplifier into a reduced power mode. In one embodiment, the signal is produced by spectrally filtering with a low pass filter, with the cross-over frequency being adjustable. Additionally, the gain of the amplifier can be reduced for high level signals.
