  • Publication number: 20040047485
Abstract: The present invention provides a design of a horn for vibration actuators. In general a driving actuator generates vibrations and a horn amplifies the vibration amplitude where the amplification is related to the ratio between the surface area of the horn at the contact with the actuator and the tip surface. The acoustic path of existing direct horn designs is modified to adopt at least one change in direction, or fold, so as to produce a compact design Preferably there are three parallel, concentric, acoustic paths and two folds. A second embodiment has an internal horn that is concentric and internal to the actuator. A third embodiment uses a tubular horn where an electroactive stack is encircled by the horn. The device may have a hollow core for the transfer of materials from one side to the other.

  • Publication number: 20040005069
Abstract: A new approach has been developed to combine mid-range and high frequency sound into the throat of a horn designed for sound reinforcement. An acoustic low pass filter element is interposed between the lower frequency passage and the higher frequency passage, so that a smooth combination of the two frequency bands is achieved at the entrance to the horn bell. Thus, each frequency band has nearly identical dispersion, and the two sources have equal delay.

  • Patent number: 6658127
Abstract: Disclosed is a speaker system that can be advantageously used in a television set. The speaker system has a support member which is provided with a partition wall and mounted on both sides of the television cabinet. A speaker is securely installed in the partition wall of the support member and provided with a frame. An amplifying horn is connected to the frame for collecting and amplifying the sound waves projected toward the frame. A cover is coupled to the rear side of the support member. The speaker system collects and amplifies not only the midrange-frequency and high-frequency sounds projected toward the front of the speaker, but also some of the sound waves projected in the backward direction of the speaker, thereby providing greatly amplified bass and harmonious and sensitive sound.

  • Patent number: 6634455
Abstract: An acoustic transmission line speaker enclosure with concentric cylindrical structures establishes acoustic coupling between a rear-traveling sound wave and a surrounding air mass. Inherent rigidity or high bending resistance of the cylindrical structure allows use of very thin walled cylinders without a massive and large overall enclosure. According to one aspect of the invention, an outer-most one of said cylinders includes wall structures adapted for coupling the rear-traveling sound wave therethrough to the surrounding air mass in phase with a forward-traveling sound wave from said speaker enclosure. An audio amplifier tunable to a listening room removes very low narrow frequency band components of an audio signal. Listening room cavity resonance is measured by injecting a frequency-varying sound wave into the listening room while detecting peak sound energy within the room. The filter the eliminates from the audio signal frequencies associated with listening room cavity resonance.

  • Patent number: 6393131
Abstract: A loudspeaker includes a cabinet designed so as to define a central compartment sandwiched between upper and lower compartments. The cabinet is symmetrical about a vertical central, fore-and-aft extending plane. Located in each of the upper and lower compartments are a pair of vertical horn walls which are exponentially curved and diverge forwardly from an inlet located at a rear part of the respective compartments, to the front of opposite side walls of the cabinet. These horn walls define bass horns which have drivers coupled to their inlets. Located in the middle compartment and diverging at an angle of 15° from each other are a pair of mid/high frequency horns that are each formed by a pair of vertical horn walls that are exponentially curved and diverge forwardly from respective inlets located in a rear part of the middle compartment on opposite sides of the plane.

  • Patent number: 6144309
Abstract: An alarm device 10 incorporates a sounder 11 and a strobe 12. The sounder and the strobe are controlled by a circuit board 17 that is located within a single flameproof housing 13. A pressure unit 23 produces the sound for the device with the sound passing through a sintered disc 24 into an upwardly and outwardly diverging cone 25 from the top of which the sound is reflected outwardly and downwardly within a dome 26. A ramp 27 then assists in reflecting and emitting the sound.
