One implementation may involve causing the playback device to play audio content according to an existing playback configuration, determining an existing frequency response of the playback device in a given system, and determining whether a difference between the existing frequency response of the playback device in the given system and a predetermined frequency response for the playback device is greater than a predetermined distortion threshold. If it is determined that the difference between the existing frequency response of the playback device and the predetermined frequency response for the playback device is greater than the predetermined distortion threshold, then the existing playback configuration of the playback device is changed to an updated playback configuration of the playback device and the playback device plays audio content according to the updated playback configuration.

A communication model is developed that includes noise inherent in the message production and message interpretation processes, and considers that these noises have fixed signal-to-noise ratios. The communication model forms the basis of an algorithm designed to optimize the intelligibility of speech in a noisy environment. The intelligibility optimization algorithm only does something (e.g., manipulates the audio signal) when needed, and thus if no noise is present the algorithm does not alter or otherwise interfere with the audio signals, thereby preventing any speech distortion. The algorithm is also very fast and efficient in comparison to most existing approaches for speech intelligibility enhancement, and therefore the algorithm lends itself to easy implementation in an appropriate device (e.g., cellular phone or smartphone).

The fingerprint generator generates a digital fingerprint for each of the transaction event entries. Each of the generated digital fingerprints comprises a bit sequence that is associated with an identity of at least one of the two or more nodes, and generating each of the fingerprints includes, for each bit position in the fingerprint bit sequence, determining whether the message text includes a specified text pattern and setting the bit position value based on the determination of whether the message text includes the specified text pattern.

    Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for selecting a targeted portion of a digital image. In one embodiment, a selection cursor having central and peripheral regions is provided. The central region is used to force a selection or a deselection, and therefore moving the central region over a portion of the image causes that portion of the image to be selected or deselected, respectively. The peripheral region of the cursor surrounds the central region and defines an area where a localized level set algorithm for boundary detection is performed. This provides more accurate boundary detection within the narrowly-focused peripheral region and eliminates the need to apply the level set algorithm across the entire image. Thus moving the peripheral region of the selection cursor over a boundary of the targeted portion of the image applies the level set algorithm in that boundary region and increases the likelihood that the boundary will be detected accurately.
