  • Patent number: 9007392
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for enhancing contrast of a color image displayed on a display system and an image processing system utilizing the same. In the present invention, the gray values of R, G, and B components of one color image are separately counted during processing the image. When calculating the corresponding output values for the gray values of R, G, and B components in each pixel, they are adapted to ratios between the gray values of R, G, and B components. Therefore, the present invention can effectively maintain the color distribution for a considerable degree and greatly enhance the image contrast.

Abstract: A digital image including a plurality of pixels is processed. Each pixel has at least one colorimetric component. The processing of the image includes processing for each pixel of a group of pixels of the image and for each colorimetric component of the pixel. In this processing, a modification is made to the value of the colorimetric component so as to obtain a modified value situated inside or outside a colorimetric range. A comparison is made of the modified value to the upper and lower limits of the associated colorimetric range. If the corrected value is outside the associated colorimetric range, a corrected value equal to an additional value is assigned to the corresponding colorimetric component of the pixel. The additional value is chosen to be unique and included in the associated colorimetric range and different from the values of the limits of the associated colorimetric range.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method for estimating color for pixels in an infrared image. In one embodiment, an infrared image is received which has been captured using a N-band infrared imaging system comprising a multi-spectral camera or a hyperspectral camera. The IR image is composed of an array of pixels with N intensity values having been collected for each pixel in the image. Then, for each pixel of interest, a search metric is used to search a database of vector samples to identify a visible-IR set which is closest to the intensity values of the IR band vector collected for the pixel. A visible vector representation is then estimated for the pixel based upon the visible portion corresponding to the closest visible-IR set. Thereafter, color coordinates for this pixel are computed from the visible vector. The method repeats for all pixels of interest in the IR image.

Abstract: A method and system for calculating oblong-shape rotation angles from image data of arbitrary size using running sums is described without the need of eigenvector routines and storage of the image data. The oblong shape may be of arbitrary size and location and need not be precisely elliptical. A few running sums are calculated and stored throughout each scan, and the results are obtained in closed form by simple post-scan computation. An algorithmic embodiment can execute on one or more hardware processors with limited or otherwise constrained computation power, available instruction cycles, available memory, etc. Hardware processors may CPUs found in desktops, laptops, tablets, or handheld computing devices. The resulting arrangement may be used for touch or optical user interfaces, real-time image recognition, real-time machine vision, and other purposes.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the image editing and organizing application described herein provide an automatic enhancement process that includes a shadow lift adjustment. The process takes an input image and enhances the contrast of darker parts of the image. The process uses a structure histogram to determine an amount of shadow lift adjustment to apply to the image. The process tempers this adjustment based on an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) value of the image.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the image editing and organizing application described herein provide a method of adjusting an image that includes a tonal response curve adjustment stage. In the tonal response curve adjustment stage, the method sets a black point and a white point for a tonal response curve and tempers the settings. The method sets a median point and mid-tone contrast points, ensures that the mid-tone contrast points can increase, but not decrease the mid-tone contrast, and then temper the mid-tone contrast points. The method then adjusts the image according to the tonal response curve generated from the points.

Abstract: A driving apparatus of a backlight module and a driving method thereof are provided. The driving method includes following steps. An image signal is received. A first grayscale mean of a current frame and a second grayscale mean of a previous frame are calculated according to the image signal. A first difference between the first grayscale mean and the second grayscale mean is calculated. A first duty corresponding to the current frame and a second duty corresponding to the previous frame are calculated according to the image signal. When the first difference is smaller than or equal to a backlight flicker threshold, a backlight control signal is generated according to the second duty and a first regulation value. When the first difference is greater than the backlight flicker threshold, the backlight control signal is generated according to the second duty and a second regulation value.

  • Patent number: 8606009
Abstract: Techniques and tools for high dynamic range (HDR) image rendering and generation. An HDR image generating system performs motion analysis on a set of lower dynamic range (LDR) images and derives relative exposure levels for the images based on information obtained in the motion analysis. These relative exposure levels are used when integrating the LDR images to form an HDR image. An HDR image rendering system tone maps sample values in an HDR image to a respective lower dynamic range value, and calculates local contrast values. Residual signals are derived based on local contrast, and sample values for an LDR image are calculated based on the tone-mapped sample values and the residual signals. User preference information can be used during various stages of HDR image generation or rendering.

  • Patent number: 8594437
Abstract: It is an object of this invention to detect a similar picture at high speed with high accuracy from a large-scale picture archive. Previously, a frame is extracted from each picture in a picture archive at fixed time intervals, an image feature quantity is extracted from each extracted frame, and the extracted image feature quantities are clustered, thereby constructing a clustered feature quantity database. A frames search section performs a similar frame search not only for a leading frame of a query picture but also for a subsequent frame, by using the database. A search result integration section checks whether there is a sequence across a plurality of search results and outputs, as a picture similar to the query picture, a segment which is confirmed to be continuous for a certain length or more.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for applying a bilateral filter to an image. During operation, the system selects a first region within the image which is associated with a first pixel. Next, the system constructs a first histogram using pixel values within the first region. The system then computes a new value for the first pixel using the current value of the first pixel and the first histogram. The system then selects a second region within the image which is associated with a second pixel. Next, the system determines a non-overlapping region between the first region and the second region. The system then constructs a second histogram using the first histogram and pixel values in the non-overlapping region. Next, the system computes a new value for the second pixel using the current value of the second pixel and the second histogram.
