Gray Level To Binary Coding Patents (Class 382/237)
  • Patent number: 8208175
Abstract: A target pixel is processed according to a blended combination of two or more error diffusion techniques. For example, the two or more techniques may include a standard error diffusion technique and rank ordered error diffusion. Additionally, or alternatively, a quantization resolution is selected for the target pixel based on information regarding the pixel. For example, a quantization resolution is selected based on a relative position of the target pixel or based on a value of the target pixel and/or values of pixels neighboring the target pixel.

Abstract: Scalable Video Coding is recently attracting attentions due to its high flexibility. The current H.264/AVC scalable extension has adopted the Motion Compensated Temporal Filter (MCTF) framework to provide temporal scalability. In this paper, described is another fast motion estimation (ME) algorithm based on the MCTF framework. Simulation results show that the herein described algorithm can reduce the encoding complexity significantly while maintaining similar bit rate and PSNR, comparing with existing fast ME algorithms implemented in the reference software.

A determination is made as to whether the modified density is greater than or equal to a threshold value, and an output image is binarized based on the determination, and stored in an output image storage portion. • Patent number: 8068256
Abstract: Color management constraints on the use of selected hypocolorant(s) and a black colorant in the rendering of a given pixel reduce ink or toner usage and/or reduce pressure on an ink limit. Additionally, the enforcement of this mutual exclusivity between the black and the selected hypocolorant(s) allows screen frequencies and angles to be shared between halftone screens used for the black colorant and a selected hypocolorant. This reduces the likelihood of objectionable moiré associated with the use of hypocolorant colorants in addition to the conventional CMY(K) colorants. In some embodiments, color management constraints prevent the use of black colorant for pixels beyond a threshold lightness or luminance. This constraint allows the use of the selected hypocolorants in the region of color space beyond the threshold. The threshold can be a function of hue and/or chroma. In some embodiments the threshold is a constant.

  • Patent number: 7894679
Abstract: Present systems and methods provide for adaptive job-size prediction that can enable the user of a scan-to-export function to obtain continuing feedback as original documents are being scanned, regarding the transferability of a scanned and processed data file. The compression method that is selected to process a scanned image is used to predict the output size for the associated data and to provide an estimated size for the job. The estimated size of the data being prepared for output is compared to the amount of storage space that is available at the target device and if the estimate exceeds available space, a signal is generated to terminate the scan or take other appropriate action. The user is also immediately notified if the transfer will fail for other reasons, such as the entry of an invalid target destination address or invalid user authentication.

  • Patent number: 7885487
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for efficiently enlarging an image, where the outermost Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) components from a DC value are regarded as high frequency components in DCT components expressed in one two-dimensional coordinate system, the edge signals of an image are restored by means of only the high frequency components, and then a binary edge mask, which represents the distribution of high frequency components within the image, is generated from the restored edge signals. Accordingly, an interpolation order can be determined based on the binary edge mask and interpolation can be performed. A higher order low pass filter is applied to an area having many high frequency signal components, so that it is possible to output more precisely enlarged image signals. In this way, that it is possible to improve the overall picture quality of an enlarged image, and to properly adjust the amount of calculation and buffer capacity, which are used when interpolation is performed.

  • Patent number: 7882177
Abstract: A network device and method are directed towards detecting and blocking image spam within a message by performing statistical analysis on differences in edge pixel distribution patterns. An image spam detection component receives a message with an image attachment. Physical characteristics of the image are examined to determine whether the image is a candidate for further analysis. If so, then the image may be converted to a grayscale image, and then performing edge detection, followed by the elimination of non-maxima and thresholding of weak edges. Edge pixels and then employed to determine a normalized pixel density distribution (PDD). Various statistical analyses are applied to the resulting normalized PDD to determine a likelihood that the image is spam. A signature based exemption may be applied to images improperly identified as spam, based on trusted user feedback.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods and devices for binary coding and decoding by similarities for structured documents After having decomposed the data to code into a series of symbols, each item of data being at least partially represented by a symbol, and having selected at least one item of data to code, a search is carried out for a first sequence of symbols coded beforehand, identical to a second sequence of symbols to code, comprising a symbol representing a part of said data. Similarly, a search is carried out for a third sequence of symbols coded beforehand of which one symbol is distinct from the symbol corresponding to a fourth sequence of symbols to code comprising said symbol representing said part of said data. In response to the comparison of their coding efficiency, the second or the fourth sequence is coded.

Abstract: Background images are removed and only desired payment information is extracted from a grayscale image of a check or similar financial instrument. A density distribution improvement process applied to grayscale raw image data 40 acquired by scanning a check corrects the density distribution of the raw image data 40 to separate the density range of the desired payment information from the density range of the background image. A threshold level 44 for clearly separating the payment information from the background image is then calculated from the characteristics of the density distribution of the grayscale improved image data 42 acquired by the density distribution improvement process. Histograms of the density distributions are used to determine the characteristics of the density distribution. The improved image data 42 is then converted to binary image data 46 using the threshold level 44.
