Abstract: A Bezier curve constituting outline font data represents a curve by four coordinate values of a start point, an end point, and two control points. The curve is represented by two coordinates of the start point and the end point in collinear approximation, and by three coordinates of the start point, an intersecting point of two lines, and the end point in bi-linear approximation. In curve pattern approximation, when 32 curve patterns are prepared, the curve is represented by 5-bit data of two coordinates of the start point and the end point, and a pattern number. By effectively employing these three kinds of processes, it is possible to represent a Bezier curve constituting the outline font data with a reduced data volume.

Abstract: The present invention has been conceived to solve the previously described problems, and provides a texture representation method without any unnatural feeling while performing data compression equivalent to a conventional data compression or more. An input signal is separated in two frequency domains. The low-frequency component is faithfully coded by a conventional image/video coding apparatus. The high-frequency component is analyzed to compute representative texture parameters. Instead of faithfully coding the high-frequency component, only the computed texture parameters are stored or transmitted to a decoding apparatus. Then, the low-frequency component is reconstructed, whereas the high-frequency component is replaced by a natural texture that has been synthesized according to the texture parameters. The reconstructed low-frequency component and the synthesized high-frequency component are merged to generate an output signal.

A plurality of adjacent pixels is grouped as a first type of block, and judgment of the dot on/off state performed by suitably using the error diffusion method is performed in block units. The image data after the color conversion used for this judgment is stored once in memory in a compressed state according to the result of edge detection for the block, and when necessary, judgment of the dot on/off state is performed while reading from the memory. The image processing device realizes the judgment rapidly while avoiding making more complex the judgment of the dot on/off state performed in block units. Pixels associated with the structural part of the image are referred to as “sketchable,” and pixels associated with the texture part are referred to as “non-sketchable.” A sketch graph, Ssk, is generated for the sketchable part of the input image by iteratively selecting a plurality of optimal image primitives from a dictionary of image primitives. The invention processes a received signal representing information of texture and information of an image, which has the texture removed from at least one region. The image information is encoded to obtain encoded information of the image. An output signal is generated representing the texture information and the encoded image information. In another embodiment, the invention synthesizes texture based on the received texture information, decodes received image information, which is encoded, to obtain a decoded image, and then maps the synthesized texture onto the decoded image.

Abstract: It is an object to provide a method of coding the position information of a digital map in a small data volume by utilizing a compressing and coding technique. In a coding method of coding data indicative of a shape vector on a digital map, an arithmetic processing is carried out over position information about a node string and a shape which indicate the shape vector to be represented by data having a statistical deviation, and the data having the statistical deviation are coded to reduce a data volume. It is possible to considerably decrease a transmission data volume in the case in which the vector shape of the digital map is to be transferred.

  • Patent number: 7528982
Abstract: A printer is provided that stores raw data. Printing is performed with the material data merged together in accordance with a print instruction from a print instruction terminal. The material data is rendered in advance and then stored in a compressed form. However, part of the material data stored in the compressed form is decompressed to its original size and stored in a decompressed form. This allows a large amount of material data to be stored in a compressed form while also allowing the stored decompressed material data to be immediately used. As such, the time required to decompress frequently used material data is eliminated. This advances the printing start time to allow high-speed printing.

  • Publication number: 20090080786
Abstract: This invention encodes an image mixed of a character or line-drawing image and a natural image. An extraction unit extracts the color of a pixel, which constitutes a high-frequency component, from the input image data as an extracted color and generates identification information indicating whether each pixel in the image data is a pixel of an extracted color or non-extracted color. A replacement unit replaces a pixel value of an extracted color with an average value of non-extracted colors. Using a window having a size of 2×2 pixels, a reducing unit generates one pixel from the window after replacement. If even one non-extracted-color pixel exists in the window, the average value of non-extracted colors within the window is determined to be a pixel value of the reduced image. A packing unit concatenates the extracted color, the result of lossless-encoded identification information and lossy-encoded data of the reduced image.
