  • Patent number: 8577180
Abstract: According to one embodiment, an image processing apparatus includes an image block generator, a pixel extractor, a correction parameter calculator and a corrector. The image block generator enlarges an image block including a plurality of pixels to generate an enlarged image block. The pixel extractor extracts a maximum pixel with a maximum pixel value and a minimum pixel with a minimum pixel value from the image block. The correction parameter calculator calculates a correction parameter including a first difference and a second difference. The first difference is an absolute value of a difference between a sample pixel value of a sample pixel to be corrected in the enlarged image block and the maximum pixel value. The second difference is an absolute value of a difference between the sample pixel value and the minimum pixel value. The corrector corrects the enlarged image block using the correction parameter.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and systems for automatic image cropping. An automatic image cropping system includes a downsampling system, a saliency analyzer, a spatial scatter, and a face detector configured to detecting one or more faces within the image. The saliency value of each pixel not associated with a detected face within the image is adjusted if one or more faces within the image are detected. A search system defines a saliency region based on a total value of saliency values within the saliency region and on a parameter, where the parameter value is based on a relative importance of a false positive pixel to a false negative pixel. The search system also defines a crop region using an aspect ratio that includes the saliency region and determines a position of the crop region based the saliency values within the crop region by performing a one dimensional search.

The image processing circuit has a first scaling circuit, a plurality of line buffers, a first sharpness circuit, a second scaling circuit, and a second sharpness circuit. The first scaling circuit enlarges an input image along a first direction to generate a first enlarged image. The line buffers temporarily store the pixel values of a plurality of pixel rows of the first enlarged image. The first sharpness circuit vertically sharpens the first enlarged image to generate a first sharpened image. The second scaling circuit enlarges the first sharpened image along a second direction to generate a second enlarged image. The second sharpness circuit horizontally sharpens the second enlarged image to generate a second sharpened image. Accordingly, it is possible to use the line buffers having shorter data lengths to perform the vertical sharpening.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for converting presentations between differing slide dimensions and aspect ratios. A scaling factor is calculated from the difference between the original dimensions of the slide and the new dimensions of the converted slide. Next, the content objects on the slide are scaled based on the scaling factor such that the aspect ratio of the content object is maintained. A horizontal position zone and vertical position zone is determined for each content object on the slide, and new coordinates for the position of the content objects are calculated utilizing formulas based on the horizontal position zone and a vertical position zone determined for each.

Abstract: Audiovisual content presentation to users has evolved from users receiving hardcopy printed materials to their searching and retrieving information by accessing any of hundreds of millions of web sites and billions of web pages. User retrieval being performed on a wide variety of platforms from high performance PCs to low performance cellular telephones. Accordingly substantial limitations exist in initially displaying this audiovisual content as well as when users dynamically manipulate browser dimensions or move through the content. Further additional limitations exist for those authoring both online and traditional content to manipulate sourced content to provide the published content. As such a requirement exists for dynamically resizing images that respects the information content within the audiovisual content.

Abstract: A method for image processing that includes determining edge pixels of a model image using an edge based technique, and an angular orientation for each of the edge pixels of the model image. The method determines a lower spatial resolution model image based upon the model image and determining respective angular orientations for the lower spatial resolution model image. The method determines edge pixels of an input image using an edge based technique, and an angular orientation for each of the edge pixels of the input image. The method determines a lower spatial resolution input image based upon the input image and determining respective angular orientations for the lower spatial resolution input image. The method matches the lower spatial resolution model image with the lower spatial resolution input image to determine candidate locations of an object within the input image and based upon the candidate locations matching the input image with the model image.

  • Patent number: 8483518
Abstract: Techniques for an image-based CAPTCHA for object recognition are described. The disclosure describes adding images to a database by collecting images by querying descriptive keywords to an image search engine or crawling images from the Internet. The disclosure describes generating the image-based CAPTCHA. The image is retrieved from the database, along with objects having significant values. An object is cropped from its image. The portion on the image where the object has been cropped is filled with image inpainting. The process obtains other objects from the database. The object is mixed among the other objects to form a set of candidate objects. A user is asked to select “the object” from the set of candidate objects that fits or matches the image. The image-based CAPTCHA evaluates whether a response, the selection, is from a human or a bot.

  • Patent number: 8478078
Abstract: Provided is a method for determining the magnification of a pattern searching template of a scanning electron microscope. The determining method comprises: acquiring a first image initially at a first magnification; then acquiring a second image which contains a pattern image displayed on the first image at a second magnification lower than the first magnification; making the size of the first image coincident with the size of a third image which cut out a portion of the second image; thereafter determining the correlation value between the first image and the third image; and setting the second magnification as the magnification of a pattern searching template, in the case where the correlation value is equal to or higher than a predetermined value. As a result, a condition for acquiring a search area can be properly set, when pattern recognition is performed by means of the template.

  • Patent number: 8478038
Abstract: A method for determining a scaled color map of a scaled image is described using the transformation of the original color map and the original image only, independently of the scaled image. A number of colors N in the original color map is determined; and provided N>Nmax, all colors in the original color map are reused in the scaled color map. If N<Nmin, the number of colors in the original color map is increased. Otherwise, the scaled color map is formed including: selecting a sub-set of colors in the original color map; increasing a number of colors in the selected sub-set; adding the resulting sub-set with increased number of colors to the original color map; and removing duplicate colors, wherein Nmin and Nmax are respective predetermined minimum and maximum thresholds for a number of colors in the original color map.
