Abstract: An insulated retail packaging container, method of manufacturing the same, and a method of filling the container. An embodiment of the container includes a plurality of interconnected panels establishing a flexible waterproof insulated bag. A re-closeable seal is configured to temporarily close the bag creating an enclosable receiving compartment that contains a plurality of individually packaged cups. A thermally insulating lining is secured to a majority of an internal surface of the receiving compartment. Disposed within one of the pluralities of interconnected panels is a first viewing window. The first viewing window is comprised of a transparent material, thereby allowing a user to determine a state of the retail products housed within the insulated retail packaging container without having to open the re-closeable seal when the insulated retail packaging container is operating as a cooler.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a storage bag for expressed mother's milk, particularly one which can receive the milk directly from a pump. The hanging milk storage bag includes semi-circular perforations or other lines of weakness for creating an aperture to receive the breast milk pump. The hanging milk storage bag further includes upper linear perforations or other lines of weakness for creating an opening at the top of the hanging milk storage bag for pouring the contents into a subsequent receptacle. The hanging milk storage bag further includes a leak-resistant zipper for forming a storage volume.

Abstract: An easy open flexible container including two webs of material sealed together to form a containment area. At least one of the two webs includes at least two layers and one of the two layers includes a slit or perforation. The easy open flexible container further includes a heat seal joining the at least two layers together. The heat seal positioned over or adjacent to the slit or perforation to form a tearable track for opening the easy open flexible container.

Abstract: A pouch includes a bag, which has an internal space for accommodating contents and a first opening, and a fastener for opening and closing the first opening. Abstract: Provided is a packaging bag constructed from shrink film material and defining a content receiving space. The packaging bag comprises seal areas in the front and rear faces for affixing the front face to the rear face to seal the content receiving space after bag contents have been received. The packaging bag further comprises a first skirt section and a second skirt section, which extend, respectively, beyond the first and second seal areas. The packaging bag further comprises a first hole and a second hole defined in each of the skirt sections and positioned between an outer edge of the skirt sections and the seal areas. The packaging bag further comprises a tear initiating feature. An opening can be formed in the packaging bag to extract the bag contents by initiating a tear at one of the holes using the tear initiating feature associated with the hole.

Abstract: A composite material to be used in construction of a container includes a tear compliant area in the form of a non-bonded strip between composite material layers designed to allow a user to more easily open the package and remove the contents. The non-bonded tear compliant strip incorporated in the composite material may also embody additional tear proponents in the form of perforations, slits or other material weakening feature included in the outside layer of the material.

Abstract: The present invention provides a package (10) comprising an outer film layer (32) and at least one inner film layer (34,36), the inner and outer film layers being mutually laminated. The package also comprises a pair of mutually spaced lines of weakness (20) in at least the outer film layer, and means (22) for initiating tearing of the film layers. The lines of weakness and tear initiation means are disposed such that activation of the tear initiation means causes controlled tearing of all the film layers along the lines of weakness. The package is particularly suitable for block products such as chocolate bars.

Abstract: A bag configured for holding contents and configured for permitting a user to dispense the contents from the bag. The bag includes at least front and rear panels of generally flexible film. The bag defines a volume adapted for holding the contents. The bag includes a tear line for facilitating opening of the bag body by tearing the bag body along the zone of weakness. The tear line includes an embossment structure. In one embodiment, the embossment structure has a tear force that is substantially constant over the entire length of the tear line. The embossment structure may have a particular arcuate shape. The embossment structure may include indentations having a non-linear shape.

Abstract: A novel bag for holding, transporting, and pouring a bulk product is provided. In one embodiment, the bag comprises a curved, perforated section at one corner. The section can be removed by tearing along the perforation, thus forming a spout for pouring the product from the bag. In another embodiment, the bag further comprises a second perforated section extending the majority of the way (and preferably the entire way) horizontally across the bag. In this embodiment, the bag could alternatively, or additionally, be opened by tearing along the second set of perforations and separating the resulting two sections of the bag. The bag is typically formed of plastic, and can be used for salt, animal food, and other pourable products.

Abstract: A package includes at least one layer of foamed thin film and an opening feature formed in the layer of foamed thin film. The foamed thin film has a caliper of from about 10 microns to about 250 microns thick. The foamed thin film comprises from about 5% to about 50% density reduction as compared to a non-foamed thin film of substantially the same caliper and substantially the same composition. The package may include foamed thin film made of a plastic resin and a whitening additive that is added to plastic resin. The whitening additive is selected to produce a foamed thin film having an opacity value of from about 35% to about 99%. The whitening agent is of substantially the same composition and is present in substantially the same amount as would be selected to produce substantially the same light reflectivity in a non-foamed thin film of substantially the same caliper and substantially the same composition.

Abstract: A flexible pouch is formed from a laminate having built-in opening features. The laminate is wrapped/folded into a generally tubular configuration and sealed at top and bottom ends and along a longitudinal fin. A tear initiation feature is provided in the form of a hole extending through the laminate and located within a top seal of the pouch. The tear initiation feature is located at one longitudinal edge of the pouch when the laminate is wrapped and sealed to form the pouch. A fin tear-propagating feature is also provided in the form of two tear areas formed respectively in the side edges of the laminate such that the tear areas substantially coincide on the fin so as to form the fin tear-propagating feature, the fin tear-propagating feature being substantially in transverse alignment with the tear initiation feature. In another embodiment, the tear initiation feature is provided as a score line extending across the pouch.

Abstract: Plastic bag (WB) containing stacked soft hygienic products (FCS), e.g. sanitary napkins, panty liners, diapers, or the like, which can be made on-line from a roll of film. The plastic bag comprises one MD seal (35) along one closure corner (46) and is without a fold line in the center of a side panel. An artwork may be present which is continuous in the area of the MD seal. The products may be in a compressed state in the closed plastic bag.

Abstract: A sleeve and method for making the same for use in packaging consumer goods comprising a plastic film having a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge is disclosed. The plastic film is rolled into a tube wherein the first longitudinal edge overlaps the second longitudinal edge defining a flap. A plurality of seaming beads are applied along the first longitudinal edge to seam the first longitudinal edge to the second longitudinal edge, the plurality of seaming beads including an inner seaming bead and an outer seaming bead to form a plurality of seams in the sleeve. In exemplary embodiments, the plurality of seaming beads are utilized with different adhesive solutions. Other embodiments include, but are not limited to a perforation strip between the at least two seaming solutions.

Abstract: A package has a flexible top wall (3) joined at its periphery (6) to flexible side walls (4, 5) to form an enclosure, the top wall (3) being formed with a line of weakness (7) which is adapted to be torn to create an opening, the tear being confined between the peripheral join (6). The side walls (4, 5) may have transverse seals (1, 2), and top and bottom walls (3) folded inwards as gussets, and the line of weakness (7) extends substantially centrally along the fold line of the gusseted top wall (3) between the two transverse seals (1, 2). The package is easily gripped in both hands, one either side of the line of weakness (7), with a thumb on each side to press downwards and create a tear along the line of weakness. Preferably, the upper edges of the side walls (4, 5) are sealed to the adjoining edges of the top wall (3) to form a peripheral upstanding rim (6).

Abstract: A perforated large-size easy opening pouch is formed from a single sheet containing at least one layer of a film material, and the sheet forms a volume. The pouch also contains a seal containing a perforation. The perforation is completely surrounded by the seal. When a tear is initiated along the perforation, the tear propagates to a non-sealed portion of the pouch. A sealing jaw and a method for forming such a pouch is also described.

Abstract: A disposable food packaging ideal for use in feeding an infant or child, the packaging having rounded corners to permit easy insertion and removal from a crowded, diaper bag, purse, or other crowded carrying environment. Additionally, the packaging is contoured for easy handling and use. Further, the smooth corners minimize the risk of scratching an infant or child when the contents are expressed into mouth of the consumer.

Abstract: A package for the delivery of products of various sizes and shapes to customers, and apparatus and a method of producing the package are disclosed, wherein a sealing and a cutting process is employed to produce a customized shipping package from a first and a second web of material. The package is readily adaptable to be reused by the customer to return the product to the original source.

Abstract: A reclosable bag for filling with at least one food product. The reclosable bag generally includes at least one sheet of web material having at least two areas of structural weakness. At least one fold structure is located between and defined by the two areas of structural weakness. An opening is located generally opposite the fold structure. The reclosable bag further includes a reclosable fastener structure having an integral skirt structure of skirt web material extending therefrom. The integral skirt structure includes a distal margin. The distal margin is coupled to the web material at, at least one location between the areas of structural weakness and the opening. The reclosable fastener structure extends past the areas of structural weakness and into the fold structure. The reclosable bag capable of being filled with at least one food product through the opening.

Abstract: A reclosable bag having a bottom flap with holes configured to allow a stack of the bags to be mounted on a wicket, a slider-actuated string zipper installed in a mouth at the top of the bag, and an open string zipper, not actuated by a slider, installed at the bottom of the bag. The wicket flap has a line of weakened tear resistance, such as a perforated line, along which the bag can be torn. Product is inserted into the receptacle via the open string zipper, and then that zipper is closed. After filling, the receptacle can be separated from the flap, which remains on the wicket, by tearing along the tear line.

Abstract: A beverage container configured from a front and a rear surface portion, a base portion, and a pair of gusset portions. The gusset portions configure side portions of the container by being sealed to mutually confronting edge portions of the front and rear surface portions and the base portion. The upper portions of the front and rear surface portions configure a neck portion that has a more slender shape than the remainder of the front and rear surface portions and that extends in a single direction. A notch is formed in the edge sealed portion of the neck portion. The front and rear surface portions are sealed directly together at a predetermined region corresponding to the notch without the gusset portions existing therebetween. A straw extends from and is positioned within the neck portion. The neck portion can be opened from the notch.

In this way a finger-grip portion of suitable extent is formed at the unsealed aperture of the bag for packaging after unsealing.

Abstract: There are disclosed methods of making drinking pouches constructed from at least two panels of flexible laminate web material, at least a first panel thereof having a structural layer (21), a barrier layer (22) and a sealant layer (23), the sealant layer having a first thickness. An exemplary method comprises the steps of punching a hole (19) through the first panel, extruding molten sealant onto the sealant layer (24), thereby occluding the hole, colling the first panel and joining the panels together to thereby form a drinking pouch.

Abstract: A three-sided pouch formed from a sealable foil comprises two parallel longitudinally extending tubular chambers. A longitudinal bendable sealing seam separates the chambers. Transversely extending sealing seams close the opposite ends of the tubular chambers. In order to enable such pouches to be easily opened, one of the transversely extending seams has a widened portion straddling the longitudinally extending sealing seam and extends to both tubular chambers. A tearing aid for facilitating the tearing open of the two tubular chambers is arranged in the widened portion.

Abstract: Reclosable bags, plastic film for making the bags, and a method and apparatus for making the bags are disclosed. The bag has a reclosable fastener (26) connected to a single wall of the bag, and the film (55) has a reclosable fastener (26) connected to one side thereof which does not require attachment to any other portion of the film (55) when making a bag. The fastener (26) has a tamper-proof member attached thereto to indicate if the bag has been previously opened. The film (55) can be wound into a roll (54) suitable for use on conventional bag making machines including form, fill, and seal machines or a chain of coilable reclosable bags can be produced therefrom since the fasteners (26) are connected to the web preferably transversely to the bags longitudinal formation axis.

In addition, the present invention relates to a package that may be torn along the score line. More specifically, the package may have a score line provided on an internal layer of barrier material, such as ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer, polyvinylidene chloride copolymer, nylon, or any other laser scorable barrier material. The score line in an internal layer and/or in the surface of the film may allow the package to be opened using tearing forces, thereby exposing a product within the package and allowing a user of the package to gain access to product that may be contained therein.

Abstract: A reclosable fastener assembly (10) for a reclosable plastic bag (18) in which the fastener assembly (10) is sealed to a single wall (14) of the plastic bag. The fastener assembly (10) includes various tear-openable barrier arrangements with the barrier arrangements sealing and protecting the contents of the reclosable plastic bag (18) before being torn open.

Abstract: An easy-open closure arrangement for bags is described. The closure arrangement includes a base web having a pair of longitudinal edges with a pair of perforated tear lines running in the same direction as the longitudinal edges. The perforated tear lines are located substantially equidistant from the longitudinal edges. A frangible layer is attached to one side of the base web with the frangible layer being positioned over the perforated tear lines to obstruct the perforations on one side. A tear bead is attached to the frangible layer on the side of the frangible layer opposite from the base web at a position between the location of the perforated tear lines. Alternative closure arrangements and bags incorporating the closure arrangements are also described.

Abstract: A reclosable package for scoopable products, such as flour and detergent. The package has a closed plastic zipper installed in a gusset. The gusset comprises first and second panels connected at a fold line. The zipper comprises first and second zipper portions respectively joined to the first and second gusset panels. In one embodiment, the zipper portions are connected by a fold line situated adjacent the gusset fold line. In another embodiment, the zipper portions are connected by a fold line situated away from the gusset. In a third embodiment, the zipper portions are not connected prior to opening the package along the gusset fold line. A peel seal is placed between the zipper portions and above the interlocked profiled closure elements of the zipper.

Abstract: A new pouch for laundry products and the combination of pouch and laundry product. The pouch includes a tearing notch or a length of weakness, which may comprise a tear tape, permitting manual opening of the pouch prior to tossing the pouch into the washing machine. By tearing open the pouch it is possible to direct liquid or gelled detergent onto clothes for pretreating stains. The remainder of the product, in a second chamber, e.g. liquid, gel or solid, eg, a powder, is retained in the pouch until release during wash. In this respect, it is preferred that at least part of the pouch is a water soluble film to promote release of product during washing in the washing machine and to minimize residue left from the pouch at the conclusion of the wash. The pouch of the invention preferably comprises at least two chambers, one of the chambers being openable by manual tearing along a tearing notch or a line of weakness.

The inner layer has a line of weakness 34 extending there along while the second outer layer A is substantially intact along the line of weakness. In the packaging material 10, the line of weakness is formed by two pieces of material C1, C2 with their edges in substantial abutment, the abutted edges creating the line of weakness. Bags 20, 30, 40, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 130, 140, 150 may be formed from the packaging material. However, the bags so formed are not limited to having the line of weakness created by abutting edges in the inner layer C.

Abstract: A reclosable package is provided having a front wall and a rear wall joined at the bottom and sides and an open top containing a zipper. The zipper has a first profile and a second profile, each including interlocking members adapted to mate with each other. One profile has a flange secured to its associated wall at a location proximal a top end of that wall. The second profile has a flange portion secured to the other wall proximal a top end of that wall and to the first wall at a location below the location at which the first flange is secured to the first wall. A line of weakness extends along the second flange portion parallel to the profile interlocking member and between the two securing points. The line of weakness is formed in the cusp of a V-shaped section formed in the second flange and a peel seal is provided above the line of weakness joining together the sides of the V-shaped section.

Abstract: A bag for storing products such as powdered or granular detergent, pet food, coffee, cereal etc., has a line of weakness for easy opening. The bag also has a means for re-closing after initial opening by the user.

The main portion has an area of being 70% and 90% of the area of the first and second plastic sheets and has portions extending to near the first, second and third distal corners of the sheets. The nozzle portion is oriented generally toward the fourth corner and has an area of between about 5% and 20% of the area of the main portion.

The patch can be composed of a material that tears in a controlled fashion along the perforations of the second openable joint. A zipper arrangement can be sealed to the inside surface of the patch.

Abstract: A packaging bag comprises a tubular body obtained by joining opposite ends of a strip film comprising a lamination of oriented and non-oriented films to each other so as to form a longitudinal sealed portion. The tubular body has at opposite sides in its diametrical direction crease portions, respectively, and has at opposite edges in its longitudinal direction lateral sealed portions, respectively. The crease portion has the first tearable zone, which can be torn at longitudinal different positions. The longitudinal sealed portion is located on the back surface side of the bag and has the second tearable zone, which can be torn at longitudinal different positions. The second tearable zone has a length identical with or longer than that of the first tearable zone. The upper edge of the second tearable zone is located in the same level as or above the upper edge of the first tearable zone and the lower edge of the former is located in the same level as or below the lower edge of the latter.

Abstract: A pair of superposed laminated films are fed by a web feed unit, and a longitudinal heat-sealing unit and a lateral heat-sealing unit unite together the pair of films by heat-sealing. A notch and tearing incision forming unit forms notches and tearing incisions in the pair of films. A cutting unit cuts the thus processed pair of united films into packages.

Abstract: An easy-open and tamper-evident beverage container and opening system for the beverage container are provided which include a container barrier wall. The barrier wall has a series of slits therein which define a pierceable straw hole. The series of slits divides the barrier wall into a hole portion and a remainder portion, with the hole portion connected to the remainder portion by attachment points provided between adjacent slits of the series. A membrane seal is located inside of the container and sealingly covers the straw hole. This membrane seal is liquid impervious and includes (a) an outer portion which is sealed to an inside surface of the front barrier wall about the straw hole, and (b) an inner portion integral with the outer portion which is not sealed to the inside surface of the barrier wall and which covers the straw hole.

Abstract: A pouch for holding liquids includes a pre-inserted straw within the pouch. A top end of the straw is exposed by removing a portion of the pouch. For manufacture, a web of flexible packaging material, suitable for forming a pouch or bag for storing liquids, is advanced forward in a pouch forming direction. A single straw of suitable length to fit within the confines of a resulting pouch is cut from a continuous length of straw material. The single straw is placed onto the web of packaging material in a location that will be on the inside surface of a single wall of the pouch and there it is secured in place preferably by a heat seal between one side of the straw and the inside surface of the pouch wall. The resulting pouch web material, having a plurality of straws positioned along its length provides a feedstock for forming pouches with pre-inserted straws when using a so called form and fill method of forming pouches or when making pre-made pouches.

Abstract: Pouches of flexible packaging material exhibit a tearing zone in the form of a weakness such as perforations or a separation in the material, this in order to be able to remove the contents easily. The packaging material is covered over by at least one film-forming mass, at least in the region of weakness, in order that the package remains closed until the contents are to be used. The film-forming mass may be the decorative printing on the pouch. After packaging, the contents are protected by the pouch and, in order to remove the contents, the pouch may be opened readily by a pulling or snapping movement which causes the covering of film-forming mass to break.

Abstract: A bag and a method and apparatus for forming an easy open bag wherein a said bag is formed of thermoplastic heat shrinkable film is disclosed. Specifically, an easy open thermoplastic heat shrinkable bag having a heat shrinkable thermoplastic tear strip panel sealed without adhesives or heat seals is disclosed. A method of making said easy open bag is also described.
