  • Patent number: 6007244
Abstract: A plastic film bag assembly includes a recloseable plastic film bag made up of a front wall and back wall joined together and having complementary detachably attachable zipper profiles at the bag opening. A lip extends from the front wall above the zipper profiles. A header extends above the back wall above the zipper profiles. A hole is provided through the header at a distance from the header perimeter edge and defining a severable header portion between the hole and the perimeter edge. A slit or perforation may be provided at the severable header portion for controlling the strength thereof. The bags are supported on a stop member which extends through the header holes. The bags are manually individually dispensed by gripping the lip and pulling for at least partially separating the zipper profiles and, thereafter, causing the severable header portion to be severed and thereby causing the bag to be ripped off of the stop member.

  • Patent number: 6000604
Abstract: A container is assembled from several panels generally comprised of one or more layers of relatively rigid stiffening material (such as corrugated cardboard) sandwiched between two layers of a strong, flexible material, such as woven polypropylene. These panels form four side wall assemblies and, in combination with a flexible bottom panel, form a self-supporting, generally cubic material receiving box. An integral closure assembly, including cover flap, front flap and side flaps, advantageously enable the container to conveniently and safely secure relatively large volumes of dense debris without spillage even when the fully laden container is dropped during handling. The container, when empty, may be collapsed for convenient storage.

  • Patent number: 5993062
Abstract: The invention is a bulk container having at least one lifting strap for lifting and transporting the container, a lifting strap for use with a bulk container and a method for producing a lifting strap. The lifting strap is generally planar, defines a strap plane and is comprised of a material. The lifting strap has first and second ends, a length extending therebetween, first and second edges and a width extending therebetween. Further, the lifting strap is comprised of at least one longitudinal rib extending along a portion of the length of the lifting strap such that the rib urges the lifting strap to raise to an upstanding position for acceptance of a lifting member therein, wherein the rib is comprised of a fixed discontinuity in the material such that the rib extends outside the strap plane.

  • Patent number: 5967579
Abstract: A method and reusable device for preventing or limiting the leakage of flowable material from a damaged flexible bulk container. The device includes a central panel and a plurality of flexible aprons, brought into firm engagement with the bottom and lower side, respectively, of the damaged flexible bulk container by means of elastic members. After securing the device to the damaged flexible bulk container, the container may be handled, stored and transported, with the device minimizing and containing spillage of flowable material in and about the damaged flexible bulk container. An aperture in the central panel accommodates the flexible bulk container discharge spout, and allows the contents of the container to be discharged therethrough. Other embodiments of the invention include an aperture in one of the flexible aprons to accommodate side-discharge flexible bulk containers, and extension flaps on each flexible apron to contain leakage from the upper sides of a damaged flexible bulk container.

  • Patent number: 5934807
Abstract: A container bag (10) having a base (14), side walls (12) and lifting loops (16) is characterized in that the central portions (15) of the side walls of the bag or of a liner within the bag are stiffened relative to the corner portions whereby to effect a squarer shape to the bag. The stiffening may be achieved by fabric from which the bag (or liner) is to be made being selectively stiffened in those areas destined to form the central wall portions by using different weave densities, more or additional threads of either the same or a different kind, additional layers of material being attached e.g., by adhesion in the relevant areas, or a stiffening coating composition e.g., of a polymer applied.

  • Patent number: 5340217
Abstract: The present invention discloses a construction for flexible intermediate bulk containers which provides additional strength along the upper periphery, to preclude the tearing out of the material when a loaded container is lifted by a single lifting loop. By folding the upper portion of the container over upon itself, two layers of material are provided along the upper periphery, effectively doubling the strength of that portion of the container to which the lifting loops are attached. The second layer of material is extended downwardly along the side of the container at least a distance equal to the length of the lifting loop legs to be attached thereto. The lifting loop web straps are then sewn through the two layers of material, preferably with a series of box stitches.

  • Patent number: 5328267
Abstract: A bulk container of flexible fabric having a substantially rectangular base and four walls with four corners at the junctions of the walls has four interior bridging panels extending between adjacent walls across the corners, the bridging panels each being formed of fabric which is integral with part of said adjacent walls. In one embodiment, the four bridging panels and the four wall center panels are formed of a single main piece of fabric, and the corners are formed by corner pieces attached to the main piece of fabric at the junctions between the bridging panels and the wall center panels. The corner pieces each comprise a folded strip of fabric which forms a lifting device. Holes are cut through the bridging panels by laying the main piece of fabric in doubled condition and cutting two layers in one operation. The container has a pyramid shaped top cover with a central filing chute, and an outlet chute.

  • Patent number: 5328266
Abstract: An extensible handle bag apparatus capable of being manufactured on conventional high-speed manufacturing equipment, wherein the handles of the bag apparatus are constructed from an extensible material which provide comfort to a person's hands when carrying the apparatus, as well as which provide substantial load carrying capabilities to the bag itself. One or more extensible handles are attached in a retracted position below the top peripheral edge of the bag until the handles are manually deployed by an individual making initial use of the fully constructed apparatus. The handles comprise a gripping member and two leg members operably attached to the gripping member. The handles further include attachment regions which are initially stretched, independent of the remainder of the handles so as to increase the surface area for adherence directly to the bag itself and/or to corresponding handle attachment patches.

  • Patent number: 5244281
Abstract: The present invention comprises a flexible, collapsible receptacle for handling flowable materials fabricated from an improved conductive woven metalized, anti-static fabric to more efficiently and effectively dissipate static electric build-up generated during the handling of flowable materials. In a first embodiment of the invention, a laminated metalized, anti-static fabric is utilized for fabricating all, or selected parts of the receptacle. In a second embodiment of the invention, all or part of the receptacle is formed from a sandwiched metalized and anti-static fabric. Parts of the receptacle not formed from either the laminated metalized, anti-static fabric or sandwiched metalized and anti-static fabric are fabricated from an anti-static fabric. Conductive anti-static lift straps are then added to the receptacle for support and to assist in static discharge. A conductive plastic liner is also inserted into the receptacle to further assist in the discharge of static build-up.
