  • Patent number: 5851072
Abstract: An improved bulk bag or bulk box liner and spout fitment construction for the liner discharge and/or fill openings. The liner is of liquid impervious thermoplastic multiple-ply sheet material, and the spout fitment is a rigid thermoplastic spout of either open or closed flange type. The spout tube extends through the liner fitment opening and has an external flange base adjacent the liner-interior tube end that is permanently affixed and heat sealed to the liner in a first annular heat weld zone formed between an outward facing surface of the flange base and the interior surface of the liner. A first backing piece of liquid impervious plastic sheet material overlies the inward-facing flange surface and has a marginal portion overlying the liner interior surface. A second annular heat seal is formed between this backing piece and flange base in a second annular weld zone spaced radially inwardly from the first heat weld seal zone.

  • Patent number: 5842789
Abstract: A process of manufacturing a bulk bag begins with a tubular blank of woven polypropylene material which is cut along a first transversely extending line 64 to form the upper edges of lift sleeve portions 76, cut along longitudinally extending lines 66 to form the side edges of the lift sleeve portions 76, and cut along substantially transversely extending lines 68 situated at the midpoint of the lines 66 to form opposed top wall halves 72 and opposed bottom wall halves 74. The top wall halves and the bottom wall halves are then sewn together along sew lines 82 and 84, respectively. Sidewalls 70' are joined to the bottom wall halves 74 along sew lines 86, and the top wall halves 72 are joined to the sidewalls 70' along sew lines 88. The lift sleeve portions 76 may be configured to provide lift sleeve, lift rope, or single point lift construction. The top and bottom walls may be provided with a fill chute and discharge chute, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5803605
Abstract: A bag for rapid washing and drying of small articles consisting of a main pocket and multiple small, individual pockets. Approximately one half of the individual pockets are located on one side of the main pocket with the other pockets located on the opposite side. The individual pockets are off-set and non-overlapping from their counterpart on the opposite side, thereby preventing more than two thicknesses of articles being in the bag. The off-set placement of the pockets provides "open" areas on each side of the main pocket. The bag can also be provided with a hanging loop which allows the bag to be hung for drying or storage reasons.

  • Patent number: 5747179
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming and consolidating organic matrix composites. An organic matrix composite panel comprising laid-up prepregs is placed between sheets of a susceptor material that is susceptible to inductive heating to form a workpiece. The resulting workpiece is placed within upper and lower dies formed of a material that is not susceptible to inductive heating. An induction coil embedded within the dies is energized and inductively heats the susceptor sheets surrounding the panel. The sheets in turn conductively heat the organic matrix composite panel. A pressure zone between the workpiece and one of the dies is pressurized to form the workpiece to the contour of a forming surface on one of the dies. The pressure in the pressure zone is maintained on the workpiece until the organic matrix composite panel is fully consolidated and formed.

  • Patent number: 5681113
Abstract: A tamper-proof security ballot pouch adapted to store ballots deposited therein and to prevent their unauthorized removal. The pouch includes a fabric bag in whose upper section is sewn a pair of parallel rods defining an entry slot to admit one ballot at a time. Depending from the upper section is a fabric chute creating a narrow open channel between the entry slot and the bag interior whereby a ballot inserted in the entry slot must pass through the channel before being deposited in the bag. Because the chute is flexible, when a ballot is inserted in the entry slot and advances into the narrow channel of the chute it then straightens out the chute, so that the channel is then in axial alignment with the entry slot. But once the ballot is deposited in the bag, its unauthorized exit through the entry slot is prevented by the chute, for regardless of how the pouch is manipulated, the deposited ballot cannot back track through the channel.

  • Patent number: 5139346
Abstract: In a flexible container, there is provided three or more approximately rectangular main sheets, and a rectangular inlet sheet and outlet sheet are provided on an imaginary line passing through approximately the central part in the width direction of each of the main sheets. One end of each of the inlet sheet and the outlet sheet in the direction along the imaginary line is sewed to an end of the main sheet corresponding to the one end, and the other end of each of the inlet sheet and the outlet sheet is projected away from the main sheet in the direction along the imaginary line. The imaginary lines of assembly sheets each constituted by the three types of sheets conform to one another, opposed surfaces of the adjacent assembly sheets are joined to each other, and outer side edges of the adjacent assembly sheets are sewed together.

  • Patent number: 5112138
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a bag having an outer unitary piece of flexible plastic material including generally rectangular front and rear plastic panels and a gusset connecting the panels at a first end portion of the bag, and an inner unitary piece of flexible plastic material including generally rectangular front and rear panels and a gusset connecting the last-mentioned panels at the first end portion of the bag. The ends of the inner and outer unitary pieces of flexible plastic material opposite the first end of the bag are open to facilitate introducing goods into the bag. The side edges of the gussets and the panels are connected together so that the bag when filled can approximate the shape of a hexahedron with the gusset of said outer piece of flexible plastic material being flattened and closing the first end portion of the bag. At least a portion of the outer unitary piece is frangible so as to facilitate access to the goods in the bag and thereafter permit reuse of the bag.

  • Patent number: 5104236
Abstract: A reinforced collapsible bag and method of making it from blanks of a flexible woven material which are cut from an elongate web substantially without wasting any material between adjacent blanks with pairs of reinforced strips extending along the side edges and through the central portion of the sides and top and bottom of the bag, thereby reinforcing the bottom, top, sides and corners of the bag. Each blank has a circumferentially continuous central portion and four isosceles triangular portions at each end of the blank. Adjacent sides of adjacent triangular portons are connected together to provide, when the bag is exapnded or filled, generally square ends which are interconnected by generally rectangular side walls. Lifting sstraps can be attached to the reinforced strips along the side edges of the bag. An access opening is provided in an end of the bag by terminating the connections of its triangular portions short of their apexes.

  • Patent number: 5090559
Abstract: A cleaner environment is promoted by halting the use of one-time disposable packaging materials which are destined to end up in municipal landfills already strained to capacity and by substituting reusable or recyclable materials in their stead. The present invention provides a reusable carrier bag for dry cleaning, which is convertible between a first orientation of use wherein it serves as a duffel bag like carrier for collecting and carrying dirty clothing to the dry cleaners. After the clothing is cleaned and pressed and hung on a hanger, the reusable dry cleaner bag in a second orientation of use serves as a protective covering for the cleaned items for the return trip from the cleaners to the home. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the reusable dry cleaner bags, once assigned to a customer, are themselves dry cleaned with each customer load. The preferred dry cleaner bags also include hanger holding means for accumulating and managing empty hangers to be returned to the dry cleaner for re-use.
