    Abstract: A flexible, reclosable package having a zipper closure and a slider device mounted thereon, the zipper closure and slider device encapsulated within a tamper evident-structure such as a hood. The hood has a top seal region where the walls of the hood are sealed together; the hood walls can be of the same material as the package walls. In one embodiment, each end of the zipper closure includes an area that terminates the slider device travel; this can be a crush area or region. In order to gain access to the interior of the package, the hood is removed by breaching the hood, such as at an area of weakness that is between the slider device and the region where the zipper closure attaches to the package walls.

The barb member is constructed and arranged to engage the first closure profile in response to a pulling force on the slider device away from the resealable closure mechanism. In another embodiment, the first sidewall also includes a hook construction defining a flange to slidably cover a shoulder of the first closure profile. The hook construction and flange define an offset that is constructed and arranged to engage the shoulder of the first closure profile in response to a pulling force on the slider device away from the resealable closure mechanism.

    Abstract: A reclosable packaging having a slider/zipper assembly, a header and a tamper-evident feature which undergoes a tangible change when the slider is moved relative to the header for the first time. The tamper-evident feature comprises a layer of sticky or adhesive material placed between a surface of the header and an opposing surface of the slider, thus forming a seal. The material must have a peel strength or resistance to rupture sufficient to resist an initial movement of the slider along the zipper. If the slider is stuck or adhered to the header, this indicates that the package or bag has not been tampered with, i.e., previously opened. When sufficient force is applied, the seal can be broken, allowing the slider to move relative to the header along the zipper in the direction of opening. Once broken, the seal cannot be restored by simply returning the slider to its original position and pressing the slider against the sticky or adhesive material.

The recloseable seal is fixed to sealed horizontal sides, or other than the sealed horizontal sides, and may be flush with the bag or extending beyond the edges of the bag. The bag has a handle above the top horizontal seal.

    Abstract: The reclosable bag has a gusset side structure so that the bag can be self-supporting on its bottom surface. The reclosable structure can be an internal structure or an external structure. As an external structure the front and rear walls extend above the reclosable seal and are bonded together above the reclosable seal. This extended wall structure is removed to remove these tamper evident seal. If within the bag the tamper evident seal is composed of a loop of film extending downward from each side of the reclosable seal to seal the contents of the bag. This loop must be broken to open the bag. The preferred reclosable seal is a zipper with bonded stays or each end to maintain the zipper on the bag. The bag has diagonal seals at the lower corners for forming a flat bottom to the bag and at the upper corners to provide vents for pressure equalization. The bags are made by a process where all processing is on line except for forming the zipper which is constructed off-line.

    Abstract: A resealable, flexible package having a reinforced slider device is disclosed. In one embodiment, the flexible package includes a resealable closure mechanism, such as a recloseable zipper for selective opening and closing of the package. The zipper includes a first and second closure profile. A slider device is operably mounted on the zipper for selectively opening and closing the resealable zipper. The slider device has a top wall and first and second sidewalls depending from the top wall. The slider device includes a reinforcement structure to increase the force required to remove the slider device from the flexible package. In one embodiment, the slider device includes at least one rib member integral with and extending outwardly from the top wall and each of the sidewalls. In another embodiment, the slider device includes a first and second rib member constructed and arranged to reinforce the top wall and each of the sidewalls at separate locations.

In a first embodiment, the slider device includes an engagement structure for engaging and interlocking first and second closure profiles of a resealable closure mechanism. The engagement structure includes a first protrusion and a second protrusion depending from the top wall of the slider device for engaging first and second closure profiles of a resealable closure mechanism. The first and second protrusions selectively open and close the resealable closure mechanism as the slider device is moved from a first position to a second position. In a second embodiment, a slider device is disclosed having first and second slide channels that engage first and second closure profiles. The first and second slide channels selectively open and close the resealable closure mechanism as the slider device is moved from a first position to a second position. Methods of assembling and operation are described.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a flexible storage bag having an opening, a closure system for the opening, and a closure indicator. The closure indicator may be provided by, at or near the edges of the bag which define the opening. For example, the edges may be sinusoidal in shape or have another irregular shape, such that misalignment of the edges occurs when the bag is open. Upon closing the bag, the edges substantially align and become generally colinear. Alternatively, the closure indicator may comprise a mechanical seal which becomes colinear upon closing. In an alternative embodiment, flaps may be juxtaposed with the closure system. The flaps encounter a change of position upon closure of the bag. The change in position may either be complete severance from the bag, or inflect from a first position to a second position upon closure or opening of the bag. Closure and/or opening of the bag may be accomplished by a slider.

Locking elements in accordance with the present invention may be automatically engaged and manually released by the consumer, or may be manually engaged and released. Locking elements may also secure the slider in other positions, such as opened and intermediate/partially opened positions, in addition to or instead of the closed position.
