  • Patent number: 8783953
Abstract: A bearing assembly includes an annular inner member defining a first outer surface and a first inner surface, and a shaft extending therefrom. The bearing assembly includes an annular outer member defining a second outer surface and a second inner surface which is adapted to engage a recess defined in the first outer surface. An annular flexible seal defines a base adapted to engage the outer member, a head adapted to engage a groove defined in one of the inner member or the shaft, and a neck having a curvilinear cross-section which is adapted to bias the base toward the recess and the head toward the groove. The flexible seal is positioned adjacent to one end of the outer member and extends between the inner member and outer member. An annular low-friction liner has a cross-section that defines an interior area adapted to engage the flexible seal head.

  • Patent number: 8636415
Abstract: A sliding bearing structure for a shaft member includes: a shaft member; a bearing member rotates relative to the shaft member; an oil supply space to which lubrication is supplied between sliding surfaces of the shaft member and the bearing member; two annular grooves formed in a circumferential direction in an inner peripheral surface of the bearing member; and two annular seal members formed as separate pieces from the shaft member and the bearing member, and arranged in the annular grooves between the shaft member and the bearing member. • Patent number: 8596870
Abstract: A dust seal is provided with a tubular fitting portion, a bush end surface abutting portion, a lip portion and a sealing projection integrally formed. The sealing projection is formed to project in an axially opposite direction to the lip portion from a radial inner section of the bush end surface abutting portion and abuts against a chamfered portion of a bush in such a manner as to overlap the chamfered portion. Therefore, at the time of supplying lubricant between the bush and a connecting pin, the sealing projection can prevent a part of the lubricant from entering between an end surface of the bush and the bush end surface abutting portion of the dust seal to maintain a sealed state therebetween. In consequence, the dust seal can be stably held on the inner peripheral side of a boss member, preventing the pulling-out of the dust seal.

  • Patent number: 5908248
Abstract: A bearing assembly includes an inner ring assembly defining a bore for receiving a shaft, and an outer ring assembly disposed radially outward from the inner ring assembly. A plurality of rotatable bearing elements are disposed between the inner and outer rings and permit the rotation of the shaft and inner ring relative to the outer ring. An annular member extends from the outer ring assembly radially inward toward the inner ring assembly. The annular member is secured to a housing surrounding the outer ring and axially bounds an area between the inner ring and the outer ring in which the plurality of rotatable bearing elements are disposed. A first seal is disposed outside the bearing area to seal a chamber between the annular member and the inner ring. • Patent number: 5246295
Abstract: A rotary mechanical face seal for preventing leakage of a fluid, either liquid or gas, across two relatively rotating surfaces. The seal is of the non-contacting mechanical type in which a predetermined spacing is maintained between the relatively rotatable sealing washers by formation of a pressurized fluid film between the relatively rotating surfaces. The opposed faces are constructed to provide a separation of the faces at start-up and thereby prevent damage or destruction to the faces before design pressures are achieved. This is achieved by providing at least one of the opposed faces with a deflection bearing portion which causes the necessary deflections under load. The bearing portion comprises a spaced series of lift pad sections. A variety of lift pad constructions can be used. The seal also includes a hydrodynamic radial bearing which centers the shaft in the static state to avoid shaft runout.

  • Patent number: 5042822
Abstract: A seal for closing the radial space between two coaxial, radially spaced, relatively rotatable parts. Each of an axially inner and an axially outer sealing ring comprises an approximately L-shaped metal part having sealing lips of elastic plastic material arranged on it. The axially outer sealing ring seated on the radially inward part has a first sealing lip which faces either the interior of the radially outward part or the axial leg of the axially inner sealing ring. To prevent contamination of that first sealing lip, the outer sealing ring has an obliquely outwardly directed fling lip which is radially inward of the first sealing lip and extends approximately into the region of a plane determined either by the axially outer front surface of the axially outwardly extending leg of the inner sealing ring or of the radially outward part. The first sealing lip may also have an obliquely outwardly directed extension located radially inwardly of and extending axially outward of the first sealing lip.

  • Patent number: 4878766
Abstract: A high-speed self-lubricating bearing-seal assembly comprised of an annular bearing-seal composed of readily moldable, self-lubricating, plastic material having a pressure velocity value at least equal to 1800 at 100 feet per minute surface speed, and an elastic combined spring and seal member biasing the bearing-seal. The elastic member is located behind the bearing-seal and is formed of a readily flowable rubber-like material, consisting of a combined spring and seal which gently urges the bearing-seal against a sealing surface. The elastic member is generally right-angled polygonal in cross-sectional shape and has concaved sides and convex corners, its minimum radial dimensions between the corners being 60-70% of its maximum radial dimensions. A salient feature of the assembly is that it is a dry bearing-seal, in that no lubrication is required other than that inherent in the bearing-seal member, yet it outlasts other lubricated bearings by a wide margin.

  • Patent number: 4787839
Abstract: Spring-loaded rollers for a mold have a sealed axle mount which passes through the roller into a supporting portion of the seats in the platen to prevent the roller from rotating, twisting or otherwise moving in the seat in the roller assembly and in the mold. The roller assembly is easily removed from its seat through the use of a removal device cooperating with a threaded aperture extending through the roller to the axle. This also permits lubrication to be placed between the roller and the axle. A plurality of rollers are used to permit a mold to be easily moved into and out of position in a press. The mold is thus mounted in position since the rollers limit the ability of the mold to move laterally. The seals are dished TEFLON disks which overfit the axle and interfit either against the sides of the roller or within slots cut circumferentially on either side of the roller. The walls of the slot may be undercut and/or otherwise shaped.

  • Patent number: 4750847
Abstract: A bearing assembly designed to preclude the escape of lubrication through bushings within which elongated shafts are rotated at high speeds. It includes an elastomeric sealing ring mounted in supporting relation to the sealing portion of the L-shaped bearing member which is compressed therewith within a groove provided for that purpose at the outer end of the bushing. The sealing ring maintains the bearing member in close-fitting, sealing relation to the sealing surface surrounding the shaft and is insulated by the bearing member from the sealing surface having rapid relative movement and from associated parts to thereby obviate the normally attendant destructive effects of high speed rotation upon such a ring.
