Patent number: 9463814Abstract: An axle bearing device includes an inner ring fixed to an axle of a railway vehicle, an outer ring fixed to a journal box of the railway vehicle, and double row tapered rollers arranged between raceway surfaces of the inner ring and raceway surfaces of the outer ring. An opening portion between the inner ring and the outer ring is sealed by a labyrinth seal including at least one axial labyrinth extending in an axial direction and at least one radial labyrinth extending in a radial direction. At least one of the axial labyrinth and radial labyrinth which form the labyrinth seal is formed between an outer-ring-side sealing member mounted to the outer ring and the inner ring or between the outer-ring-side sealing member mounted to the outer ring and an inner-ring-side sealing member mounted to the inner ring.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2014Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: NTN CORPORATIONInventors: Yasuhiko Shimizu, Yasuhiro Shimizu, Fumihiro Murakami, Masahiko Kataoka, Masanori Ueno

Patent number: 8939646Abstract: A shaft support and lubrication system can include two vise bearings, a lantern ring, and two or more sets of packings. The vise bearings can be rigid cylinder tubes. The lantern ring can be a flexible cylindrical tube with one or more outer grooves on an outer diameter, one or more inner grooves on an inner diameter, and one or more through holes from either the outer diameter or the one or more outer grooves to either the inner diameter or the one or more inner grooves. When arranged coaxially and installed on a shaft, the shaft support and lubrication system provide physical stabilization and provide lubrication or cleaning solution to the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2013Date of Patent: January 27, 2015Inventor: Ward Forrest

Patent number: 8636415Abstract: A sliding bearing structure for a shaft member includes: a shaft member; a bearing member rotates relative to the shaft member; an oil supply space to which lubrication is supplied between sliding surfaces of the shaft member and the bearing member; two annular grooves formed in a circumferential direction in an inner peripheral surface of the bearing member; and two annular seal members formed as separate pieces from the shaft member and the bearing member, and arranged in the annular grooves between the shaft member and the bearing member. Each annular seal member is formed in plural, and is made of material having a thermal expansion coefficient such that an inside diameter of the annular seal member is smaller than an inside diameter of the bearing member at a low temperature, and is the same as or larger than the inside diameter of the bearing member at a high temperature.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2012Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Assignees: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Taiho Kogyo., Ltd.Inventors: Yuichiro Kimura, Shinichi Kato, Yasuhiro Hikita

Patent number: 8109674Abstract: A bearing assembly is presented having a novel lubricant sealing design that, in one embodiment, combines the sealing advantages of both a labyrinth-like seal in combination with a contact seal. The improved seal includes a non-rotating seal case working in closely spaced cooperation with a rotor to form a channel. The rotor is attached and turns with the shaft, inducing flow in the channel. Lubricant leakage is impeded by the tortuous fluid path formed by the convoluted channel of the labyrinth-like seal and the fluid shear forces developed by the turning shaft. Any lubricant leakage is further impeded by a resilient seal contacting the surface of the rotor and constricting the channel.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2009Date of Patent: February 7, 2012Assignee: Amsted Rail Company, Inc.Inventor: Paul A. Patent number: 7611287Abstract: A slide bearing for supporting a shaft and comprising at least one bearing shell for receiving the shaft. The bearing shell and the surface of the shaft define a bearing gap. Also described is a mechanism for supplying a lubricant to the bearing gap so that the lubricant can be removed therefrom. To compensate for negative effects of a temperature-dependent change of the bearing gap, there is provided at least one throttling element for throttling the flow of lubricant through the bearing gap.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2006Date of Patent: November 3, 2009Assignee: Carl Freudenberg KGInventors: Eberhard Bock, Martin Gramlich

Patent number: 6126414Abstract: A thrust bearing arrangement for a turbocharger including a thrust bearing unit having separate normal and reverse thrust bearings, and a thrust member provided on a turbine shaft and interposed between the normal and reverse thrust bearings. Both the normal and reverse thrust bearings are spaced from the turbine shaft in a radial direction of the turbine shaft and a lubrication oil is supplied to a first contact area between the normal thrust bearing and the thrust member. An oil guide portion is formed on a bearing housing for further supplying the lubrication oil to a second contact area between the thrust member and the reverse thrust bearing. A seal member is provided on the turbine shaft in slidable contact with an inner peripheral face of the normal thrust bearing.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1998Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.Inventor: Takaaki Koike

Patent number: 5352044Abstract: A plastic bearing consisting of an elastically deformable material for stabilizers in motor vehicles of a one-part design, slotted on one side in an axial plane, which can be opened for mounting, with an inner contact surface (6), which is slidingly movable on the jacket surface of the stabilizer and is delimited by sealing lip rings (19) at the axial ends, on which pockets (7) filled with a lubricant are provided between radially extending beads (20) and longitudinal ribs (21) extending axially between them, and which plastic bearing can be mounted in a housing under pretension.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1993Date of Patent: October 4, 1994Assignee: Lemforder Metallwaren AGInventors: Ernst-Gunter Jordens, Helmut Kammel

Patent number: 4632404Abstract: A seal for a rolling bearing having an outer bearing ring, an inner bearing ring and rolling elements between the outer and inner rings. A seal extends from one of the bearing rings and has axially extending sealing lips engaging a centrifuge plate extending from the other bearing ring. The free end of the centrifuge plate extends to the region of the bearing ring to which it is not affixed, and is angled axially outwardly therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1985Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: SKF GmbHInventors: Kurt Feldle, Karl-Friedrich Kaschube

Patent number: 4421326Abstract: The invention relates to a fluid seal unit which vents gas pressure from a sealed region. The seal includes vents extending axially along its inside or outside mounting surface diameter, preferably communicating with an annular manifold lying adjacent one face of the seal. The manifold in turn is sealed by a flexible diaphragm which provides a valve or vent control action in use. The mounting surface containing the vent may be a metal surface, forming a part of the seal casing or a rubber surface where the seal has a rubber covered mounting flange.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1982Date of Patent: December 20, 1983Inventor: Gordon T.
