  • Patent number: 8596870
Abstract: A dust seal is provided with a tubular fitting portion, a bush end surface abutting portion, a lip portion and a sealing projection integrally formed. The sealing projection is formed to project in an axially opposite direction to the lip portion from a radial inner section of the bush end surface abutting portion and abuts against a chamfered portion of a bush in such a manner as to overlap the chamfered portion. Therefore, at the time of supplying lubricant between the bush and a connecting pin, the sealing projection can prevent a part of the lubricant from entering between an end surface of the bush and the bush end surface abutting portion of the dust seal to maintain a sealed state therebetween. In consequence, the dust seal can be stably held on the inner peripheral side of a boss member, preventing the pulling-out of the dust seal.

  • Patent number: 8109674
Abstract: A bearing assembly is presented having a novel lubricant sealing design that, in one embodiment, combines the sealing advantages of both a labyrinth-like seal in combination with a contact seal. The improved seal includes a non-rotating seal case working in closely spaced cooperation with a rotor to form a channel. The rotor is attached and turns with the shaft, inducing flow in the channel. Lubricant leakage is impeded by the tortuous fluid path formed by the convoluted channel of the labyrinth-like seal and the fluid shear forces developed by the turning shaft. Any lubricant leakage is further impeded by a resilient seal contacting the surface of the rotor and constricting the channel.

  • Patent number: 7458725
Abstract: The present invention provides a bearing sealing method for sealing a bearing member which is interposed between a first member and a second member and allows relative rotation between the first member and the second member. The method includes the steps of keeping the bearing member under a sealed state by interposing a seal between the first member and second member; and releasing the bearing member from the sealed state by bending a first seal element of the seal outward only upon pressure increase in the sealed bearing member. The first seal element is normally in contact with one of the first member and the second member.

  • Patent number: 7063342
Abstract: An improved apparatus is provided for use in a vehicular suspension arm. A through-hole is formed in one end of the suspension arm, and a bearing fits centrally in the through-hole. A pair of cylindrical spacer members are inserted into the opposed ends of the through-hole. Annular sealing members are interposed between the cylindrical spacer members and the through-hole. One end of the suspension arm is installed to the frame by means of a bolt inserted through the bearing and the cylindrical spacer members. At one end of each cylindrical spacer member, there is integrally molded a flange portion, having a larger outer diameter than the inner diameter of the through-hole. Using the described apparatus, it is possible to substantially prevent water splash, earth and sand from directly contacting the sealing member, in order to reduce the possibility of contamination.

  • Patent number: 6129533
Abstract: The invention relates to a fluid-conveying machine, in particular, a pump having a component rotating in a stationary housing part inside an annular gap. The stationary housing part separates an interior having a higher product pressure from an exterior having a lower pressure. A rotating component is mounted in an external bearing which is sealed with respect to the interior via a sealing system. In order to improve the sealing, the invention provides that the annular gap is formed between two sliding bearing shells which comprise extremely hard, wear-resistant materials and, in accordance with the operating principle of a radial sliding bearing, form a first pressure-reducing stage. A feedback device, which feeds back the leakage from this first sealing stage into the conveying process of the machine, is connected downstream of the first pressure-reducing stage. A second sealing stage is arranged axially downstream of the feedback device.

Abstract: A unitary radial lip seal assembly to provide a fluid tight seal between a shaft and a housing bore through which the shaft extends includes an annular rigid retainer, a resilient body portion secured to the retainer and defining at least one sealing lip to seal against the rotatable shaft and a sleeve bearing member supported by said seal assembly outboard of the sealing lip. In one form the bearing member is rigidly connected to the retainer, in another, it is resiliently mounted to provide shaft vibration dampening. In the latter embodiment, the bearing member includes a radial wall urged into frictional engagement with a radial wall of the resilient body to restrict rotation of the bearing member.
