  • Patent number: 5110223
Abstract: The present invention comprises a spacer, especialy a spacer for use with a thrust roller bearing assembly. An internal radial lip projecting into the central aperture of the spacer provides for frictional retention on a shaft passing therethrough. Where the thrust bearing and spacer combination is to be installed in a bore, one or more external radial lips may be included to frictionally retain the spacer within the bore. The spacer element is adapted for coupling to one of the bearing elements. In one embodiment, the bearing and spacer may be bonded together. In another embodiment, the spacer and bearing are joined by mutually engageable circumferential locking surfaces. The spacer is selected from a plurality of spacers of differing axial dimension, each spacer being color coded according to its axial dimension.

  • Patent number: 5074578
Abstract: A shim is used to adjust camber in a wheel mounted on a suspension assembly that has a mounting plate with an opening for a drive axle for mounting both a brake caliper and a hub and wheel bearing assembly associated with the wheel. The shim has a central shim body tapered to define a shim angle. The shim body has a drive axle opening therethrough and a plurality of openings for fasteners connecting the hub and wheel bearing assembly to the mounting plate. At least one brake caliper lobe extends from the central shim body and provides an extension of the central shim body defining the same shim angle as the shim body. The lobe further has an opening therethrough for a fastener connecting the brake caliper to the mounting plate. The shim is interposed between the mounting plate, on the one hand, and the disk brake caliper and hub and wheel bearing assembly, on the other hand, to adjust the angle of both by the defined shim angle.

  • Patent number: 5072993
Abstract: Shim pack assemblies are useful for adjusting an dpositioning a guide relative to a moveable member. When adjustment is needed, shim plates are added or removed to move the guide relative to the member. The subject self-contained shim pack assembly includes a plunger positioned within a housing and extending toward a moveable member. A first plurlaity of shim plates within the housing is positioned on one side of the plunger. A second plurality of shim plates is positioned on the other side of the plunger. • Patent number: 5022815
Abstract: The invention concerns a structure for mounting a fan to a fan motor. The structure is designed to fit a plurality of thrust washers onto the end of a motor shaft supported in a casing through a bearing and to thrust and fit a flat washer on a peripheral surface of a smaller diameter step formed on the tip side further than the washers-fitted section. Of these thrust washers, the most outer, tip side, thrust washer located opposite to the flat washer is thicker than the traveling play distance toward the core of a motor shaft and thinner than the interval from the adjacent thrust washer to the peripheral surface of the step. With the construction, hence, the invention serves to prevent the thrust washer from falling onto the smaller diameter step.

Abstract: A foil intermediate layer is arranged between machine parts forming a joint to protect the machine parts against fretting corrosion. The foil intermediate layer includes at least two foils or plies of which the respective inner contact surfaces contacting each other, have a lower coefficeint of friction and a higher resistance to wear and abrasion, than the respective outer surfaces of the foils or plies contacting the joint forming surfaces of the machine parts. Thus, relative motion between the machine parts forming the joint under oscillating loads or vibrations, is transmitted to the easily gliding wear resistant contact surfaces of the plies so that the machine parts are protected from fretting corrosion, whereby their operating lifetime is increased.

  • Patent number: 4730995
Abstract: A first shim mounted on the shaft extending from the high pressure end face of a screw rotor in a screw compressor establishes the operating clearance between the high pressure end face of the rotor and the high pressure end wall of the compressor's working chamber by fixing the axial position of a bearing group which is likewise mounted on the rotor shaft. A second shim, disposed between the bearing group and a spring biased spacer element, is determinative of the distance the spacer element, and therefore the rotor, can travel in a direction toward the high pressure end of the compressor under the impetus of reverse axial thrust. Contact of the rotor with the high pressure end wall of the working chamber is positively precluded because movement of the spacer element, under the influence of rotor movement toward the high pressure end of the compressor, collapses the biasing spring which causes the spacer element to contact a fixed surface of the compressor.

Abstract: A track joint is provided with a controlled running clearance by means of a controlled interstice producing membrane placed between the opposing axial thrust surfaces of the joint. The membrane is of a substance which sacrifically self-destructs upon the initial pivotal movements of the joint. The purpose of the membrane is to relieve the joint of compressive loads which become locked in the joint during its assembly and can cause galling of the thrust surfaces and injury to track seals in the joint.
