The present invention includes a connection checking step of checking a state of a physical connection between an external device and the broadcast receiver, a certification key registration deciding step of deciding whether a reserved certification key is registered, an access allowance deciding step of if the certification key is registered, deciding whether to allow an access to the connected external device by verifying the certification key, and an access allowing step of if the access is allowed, recording/reproducing corresponding data by accessing the connected external device.

Passive content is replaced with active agents so that each piece of content will also contain a program part. The action by a user selecting a piece of content to play results in the program part being executed instead of the content being played. This program part displays menus that allow the user to navigate this particular piece of content, or alternatively, the program part may just start playing the AN content. Playing the ctual content is under the control of the application. At the end of the content, the application decides the next action, such as displaying another menu. The application chooses when to exit the content (based on user action or end of content) and returns to the player menus.

To make the predictions, a trained machine learning engine is fed both collaborative filtering parameter values and content-based filtering parameter values. In the case of video-to-video recommendations, the collaborative filtering parameter values may be based on a video pair that includes a video in which a user has already demonstrated an interest. The machine learning engine generates a machine-learning score for each video. The machine learning scores are used as the basis for selecting which videos to recommend to a particular user.

By indexing and storing life recordings, a life recorder may search for and acquire life recordings generated by itself or another life recorder, thereby allowing life experiences to be shared minutes or even years later. In some embodiments, recordings generated by a life recorder may be analyzed in real-time and automatically pushed to one or more target devices. Abstract: Methods, systems and architectures for enhancing a user's DVD experience are described. In one embodiment, the physical structure (e.g. titles and chapters) of a DVD is ascertained and a playlist structure shell that represents the DVD's physical structure is built. Metadata associated with the DVD is acquired and used to populate the playlist structure shell. In some embodiments, the metadata can be acquired from a metadata source external to the DVD and/or remote from a computing device on which the DVD is being played. Remote locations can include, without limitation, those that are network- or Internet-accessible. Once the playlist structure shell is populated, it can be used to render a playlist associated with the DVD's video in an area of a user interface display.

Abstract: An operating system extension is used to implement embedded information on a DVD. The operating system extension examines DVD sector addresses requested from the DVD hardware. By way of example, such static summaries can be shared in emails and in calendar applications.
