Abstract: In one embodiment, a tape drive includes a magnetic head having a plurality of read sensors, each read sensor being configured to read data simultaneously, a controller, and logic integrated with and/or executable by the controller. The logic is configured to read, using the plurality of read sensors, encoded data from a plurality of tracks of a magnetic tape medium simultaneously. The logic is also configured to perform track-dependent erasure decoding on the encoded data based on detection of one or more time-varying signal quality issues associated with at least one of the plurality of tracks read simultaneously from the magnetic tape medium.

Abstract: A time lapse video is created in real-time, without post-production. User configurations are set for a time lapse video recording. A real-time video feed is received into a buffer. Based on a user configuration for frequency, certain frames in the buffer can be discarded prior to generating the video file. The time lapse video is output as a video file according to user configurations.

Abstract: A main stream contains successive content elements of video and/or audio information that encode video and/or audio information at a first data rate. A computation circuit (144) computes main fingerprints from the successive content elements. A reference stream is received having a second data rate lower than the first data rate. The reference stream defines a sequence of the reference fingerprints. A comparator unit (144) compares the main fingerprints with the reference fingerprints. The main stream is monitored for the presence of inserted content elements between original content elements, where the original content elements have main fingerprints that match successive reference fingerprints and the inserted content elements have main fingerprints that do not match reference fingerprints. Rendering of inserted content elements to be skipped. In an embodiment when more than one content element matches only one is rendered.

Abstract: Among other things, one or more techniques and/or systems are provided for displaying a related content view within a search interface. That is, a search interface, such as a search application, may provide search results that are relevant to a query submitted through the search interface. For example, a main search engine results view comprising one or more search results of the query may be presented within the search interface. Responsive to a semantic zoom operation (e.g., a touch gesture), the search interface may be transitioned from the main search engine results view to a related content view comprising related content that corresponds to the query and/or a (e.g., supplemental) search result for the query. In this way, the user may explore supplemental content, such as query suggestions, images, entity descriptions/profiles, videos, and/or other content, that may be related to a query submitted by the user.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for a media guidance application that can automatically generate replays of particular segments of a media asset. For example, the media guidance application may determine that a segment viewed by a user is of particular interest to the user based on a comparison with a user criterion. Accordingly, upon detecting the end of the segment, the media guidance application may automatically return to the beginning of the segment, allowing the user to view the segment again.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing video content. The method includes acquiring video data from a source. If the video data is not digitized, then the video data is digitized. The method includes generating scene indexes for the video data including a representative still image for each scene and combining the video data and scene indexes along with a media player on a video disc. The video player is operable to play the video data in accordance with the scene indexes including playing a scene from the video data on a client computer while displaying the representative stills for other of the scenes available for display on the video disc.

Abstract: The video descriptor generation device includes a first extraction unit, a second extraction unit, and a feature combining unit. The first extraction unit extracts a first feature for each picture which is a frame or a field of a video. The second extraction unit extracts a second feature from a region defined by an edge of an image included in the video. The feature combining unit combines the first feature and the second feature to generate a video descriptor.

Abstract: In a recording medium on which is recorded a multiplexed stream including a plurality of first packets (V_main) constituting a first I-picture in a first video stream and a plurality of second packets (V_sub) constituting a second I-picture in a second video stream, information for identifying the first I-picture and information for identifying the second I-picture are recorded on the medium. A recording medium can thereby be obtained that enables the rapid detection, from a small amount of information, of a particular picture included in a stream such as a TS in which multiple content streams are multiplexed.

Abstract: The present solution is directed towards a policy-based intermediary that dynamically and flexibly injects content in responses between a client and a server based on one or more policies. The present solution addresses the challenges of injecting content in a client-server transaction. The intermediary determines when and what content to inject into a response of a client-server transaction based on a request and/or response policy. The injected content may include timestamp and/or variable tracking of different events in a client-server transaction. For example, when an intermediary appliance is deployed in a system to accelerate system performance and improve user experience, the appliance may inject content based on policy to monitor the acceleration performance of the deployed appliance.

Abstract: Architecture that enables a card interaction model that can present cards in different ways. When a user performs tasks, new stacked cards (one card on top of another card) corresponding to those tasks open in a left pane over the top of a background canvas (a card overlay of the underlying canvas). Users can scroll through the card stack of the card overlay to retrieve previous cards. Additionally, in an alternative viewing mode, a user can interact with the card overlay via an interactive affordance (an interactive object made available to facilitate a potential action) to enable viewing (e.g., an overview) of the cards in a side-by-side card overlay manner to further enable the opening and quick navigation to one of the previous cards. The architecture has applicability to mapping systems where searches range over many different geographical sites.

An acquiring unit acquires images captured by the camera before and after a vehicle moves, and an extracting unit extracts two feature points from each of the images captured before and after the vehicle moves. A calculating unit calculates a camera installation parameter on the basis of a positional relationship of coordinates of the two feature points in the image before the vehicle moves and coordinates of the two feature points after the vehicle moves that correspond to the feature points before the vehicle moves.

Abstract: A system and method for sharing playlists within a network includes a first storage device having a first playlist comprising first playlist data corresponding to stored content and a second storage device having a second playlist comprising second playlist data corresponding to stored content. The system also includes an aggregation server in communication with the first storage device and the second storage device that receives the first playlist and the second playlist. The aggregation server aggregates the first playlist data and the second playlist data to form an aggregated playlist having aggregated playlist data and forms an index list corresponding to the aggregated playlist. A first aggregation client is in communication with the aggregation server and receives the index list from the aggregation server.

Abstract: A system and method for playing Flash-based media are disclosed in the present invention. The method comprises that: when a Flash conversion server receives a Flash play request sent from a media server, it parsing the request, if the Flash play request is a dynamic Flash request or a real-time Flash request, the Flash conversion server converting the Flash file that is requested to be played into code stream data, and pushing the code stream data to the media server; and the media server playing the received code stream data to the terminal. With the technical solution in the present invention, the Flash animation can be converted and played to a terminal in real time.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and systems for producing, previewing and publishing a video press release (“VPR”) over an electronic network. A video press release comprises multimedia information. A software transcoder that performs the function of removing incompatibilities between video file formats and text document file formats for producing, previewing and publishing a VPR is implemented. The present invention assures multimedia compatibility of a VPR across video file formats, web browser formats, computer operating systems, and text file formats by transcoding a video file, as well as compressing, resizing and juxtaposing/transposing the transcoded video file along with a text presentation received from a text file, and presenting the so-produced VPR to Internet audience.

Abstract: A method of managing video programs and associated program components on a storage unit of an electronic device is provided. A total number of playbacks of each video program stored in the storage unit and a total number of playbacks of each program component stored in the storage unit for each of the video programs are tracked. A percentage of playbacks of each program component stored on the storage unit relative to the total number of playbacks of its corresponding video program is determined. From this, candidates of program components for deletion from the storage unit are identified based on the values of the determined percentages. The tracking, determining and identifying steps of the method are performed by electronic components of the electronic device. A device is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of filtering data entries on a mobile device includes displaying a list of data entries on a display device of the mobile device. An indication of one of the data entries of the list is received at one of an input device and an auxiliary input device. Highlighting the data entry in response to the indication is performed. At an auxiliary input device, a pause of the indication is received. A filter for data entries that match the value of a predetermined field of the highlighted data entry is then executed. Results of the filter are displayed on the display device.

Abstract: A method is provided to perform anti-aging techniques in an informational display. An informational display is located on the front bezel of a consumer recording device that displays information related to the content being recorded or played or the operation of the device. To increase the life of the display, displayed text is shifted within the display so that pixel use in the display is more evenly distributed with the pixels in the display. To determine the direction and shape of the shift, real-time calculations of pixel use are made or a simulator is used to compute the probable use of each pixel in the display over a certain period of time. Another anti-aging technique is to dim the display of information after a specified amount of time of display at normal brightness.

Abstract: A system and method of visually representing a recorded audio meeting comprises a plurality of discrete microphones, each connected to an audio speaker as well as to a conventional digital mixing console, and a computer system connected to the digital mixing console. Captured audio is transmitted as audio signals to the audio speaker for broadcasting and to the mixing console where they are converted to a digital audio feed for transmission to the computer system. The computer system, which has associated a visual cue with audio signals based on their source, processes the digital audio feed signal to identify the sources of the captured audio therein and generates a visual cue associated with the identified audio source. This activity is represented in a composite visual representation that displays and records all session participants and indicates speaking participants in real time.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed which reduces or removes the effectiveness of commercial skip systems such as presently found in VCRs, PVRs, etc. which are designed to delete commercials from signal material upon playback of a previously recorded version of the signal material. In an embodiment, the effectiveness of the commercial skip system is reduced or removed by adding a flat field of selected signal level to active line portions of video lines of the signal material. Other embodiments modify the normal fade to black signal indicative of a commercial to provide a fade to non-black signal. In further embodiments, a fade to non-black signal is inserted in an overscan area of the signal picture. Still further embodiments modify audio signals or selected signals in the horizontal blanking interval which may be used in commercial skip systems to detect the presence of commercials.

Abstract: A method of displaying a moving image and an image playback apparatus to display the same. According to the method, the image playback apparatus reduces each first I frame of one or more moving images stored in a recording medium and displays thumbnail images. The image playback apparatus also displays a thumbnail moving image generated based on thumbnail images which correspond to I frames extracted at regular intervals from a selected moving image. If a playback command is input while the thumbnail moving image is being displayed, the image playback apparatus can display the selected moving image from a scene corresponding to a thumbnail image obtained from a point at which the playback command is input.

Abstract: A method begins by storing, in response to storage requests, a single encoded copy of broadcast data as a plurality of sets of encoded data slices. The broadcast data is encoded in accordance with an error coding dispersal storage function to produce the plurality of sets of encoded data slices. The method continues for each of the plurality of playback requests by retrieving, based on the error coding dispersal storage function, a unique combination of encoded data slices and sending the unique combination of encoded data slices to a requesting entity corresponding to one of the playback requests.

Abstract: A video media clip synchronization tool has a timeline display which indicates, from its beginning, the running time of a video shooting event in hours, minutes and seconds. The tool also has two video frame displays which sequentially indicate frame numbers within a current second of the video shooting event. One of the video frame displays indicates the odd numbered frames within the current second of the video shooting event and the other of the video frame displays indicates the even numbered frames within the current second of the video shooting event. A single video frame number is displayed when the clips of video media and the video frame displays are synchronized. Adjacent odd and even video frame numbers are simultaneously displayed when the clips of video media and the video frame displays are not synchronized.

Abstract: Techniques for realizing interactive information through multimedia are described to solve the problem in the prior art that a server can-not be accessed directly through a multimedia advertisement in multimedia. One embodiment of the techniques includes: a user terminal configured to parse and play the multimedia file to obtain the interactive information in the multimedia file. The user terminal accesses the server upon the trigger of the interactive information by the user. The techniques can be used to access the server through the interactive information in multimedia, and enables the transaction with the server more convenient and quickly.

Abstract: Electronic images of a video stream are programmatically analyzed and metadata associated with the images automatically populated with contextually relevant tags and markers for later referencing the images for curated entertainment. Specifically, a user can specify parameters for a video montage that leverages the metadata for automatic video montage creation based on the metadata.

The system may include a digital recording module including an image capture module for making a real-time digital recording of at least a portion of the display image, the image capture module buffering a terminal portion of the real-time digital recording. A storage module may store at least a portion of the real-time digital recording. A real-time digital recording may contain at least a portion of the display image, wherein, at any particular time, the real-time digital recording includes information from the control system for a predetermined duration proximate the particular time, and at least a portion of the real-time digital recording may be stored. Abstract: Methods and systems for generation of an index and Table-of-Contents (ToC) for videos based on user given labels or a combination of user input and automated indexing techniques are provided. According to one embodiment, an annotation tool and a video player are presented to individual subscribers/users of a video discovery and consumption service. Tags proposed by the subscribers to be associated with various portions of the video content are received, processed and integrated within a global ToC for the video. The service can assist subscribers that intend to tag a certain portion of video by automatically proposing suitable tags and portion boundaries. Subscribers can vote on the suitability of tags constituting the ToC. Responsive to a request to view video content, a customized ToC is presented to a subscriber which include labels selected from the global ToC in accordance with default tag selection/filtering criteria or filtering criteria specified by subscriber.
