Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for selectively replaying interrupted segments of media content that are important for understanding a storyline of the media content. In response to detecting noise in a media presentation environment where a current segment is being played, it is determined whether the current segment is important. Responsive to the determination that the current segment is important, a complexity score of the audio component of the current segment is determined and a replay threshold is determined based on the complexity score. Responsive to the determination that the detected noise level is greater than the replay threshold, the current segment is replayed from the beginning instead of continuing to play the media content.

Abstract: An example method includes obtaining a profile of a user using a user device to present an immersive experience, wherein the profile specifies a user reaction indicator and a value that represents a baseline for the user reaction indicator, presenting the immersive experience on the user device, receiving user state data including a current value of the user reaction indicator, determining that the current value of the user reaction indicator deviates from the value that represents the baseline by more than a threshold, in response to the determining, selecting, from among a plurality of variants for a segment of the immersive experience, a variant that is expected to cause the current value of the user reaction indicator to adjust to a value that does not deviate from the value that represents the baseline by more than the threshold, and presenting the variant that is selected on the user device.

The plurality of text descriptions are processed through a natural language processing model. Based on processing, a plurality of interest contexts are derived from the plurality of text descriptions. A mapping of each of the plurality of interest contexts to one or more predefined categories associated with an online marketplace is generated. Based the mapping of each of the plurality of interest contexts to the one or more predefined categories, a user device associated with the user is caused to display an app page or web page associated with the one or more predefined categories.

Abstract: Aspects described herein may provide systems, methods, and device for facilitating language learning using videos. Subtitles may be displayed in a first, target language or a second, native language during display of the video. On a pause event, both the target language subtitle and the native language subtitle may be displayed simultaneously to facilitate understanding. While paused, a user may select an option to be provided with additional contextual information indicating usage and context associated with one or more words of the target language subtitle. The user may navigate through previous and next subtitles with additional contextual information while the video is paused. Other aspects may allow users to create auto-continuous video loops of definable duration, and may allow users to generate video segments by searching an entire database of subtitle text, and may allow users create, save, share, and search video loops.

Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling closed captioning using an eye tracking device are provided. The system for controlling closed captioning may comprise a display device, a closed captioning controller configured to display closed captioning text for a media item during playback on the display device, and an eye tracking device configured to detect a location of a user's gaze relative to the display device and send the location to the closed captioning controller. The closed captioning controller may be configured to recognize a predetermined gaze pattern of the user's gaze and, upon detecting the predetermined gaze pattern, partially or completely deemphasize the display of the closed captioning text.

Abstract: Systems and methods for routing audio for audio-video recordings allow a user to record desired audio with captured video at the time the video is being captured. Audio from one or more sources may be routed to the video capture application and recorded with the video. In one or more examples, audio may be routed from another application, e.g., an audio playback application, running on the same device as the video capture application. In another example, audio may be received from a remote device through a wireless connection. Multiple streams of audio content may be mixed together prior to storing with video. The audio, upon reception, may then be routed to the video capture application for recordation. An audio progression bar may also be provided to indicate duration and elapsed time information associated with the audio being recorded.

An evaluation device arranges the detected audio data records into an audio data record group according to a selection criterion, e.g. the artist. On the basis of the respective values, the evaluation device then determines a ranking list of the audio data records in each audio data record group. The evaluation device generates a digital image for each audio data record and assigns the images of those audio data records that are combined into an audio data record group to an image group. The position of the images in an image group depends on the position of the respective associated audio data record in the ranking list.

The user may request and watch programs in the series at the user's leisure while peripheral media content may be filtered to be consistent with the user's viewing progress in the series.

The application has an associated tune manifest that identifies one or more resources that the application may use. The tune manifest is compared to a device resource record, and a check is made, based at least in part on the comparing, whether the one or more resources identified in the tune manifest can be satisfied by the device. If the one or more resources identified in the tune manifest can be satisfied by the device, then the application is run; otherwise, a notification of a conflict between the application and the device is presented. Additionally, when the application exits, a device tune state that identifies a content source to which the device was tuned prior to running the application can be retrieved and the device restored to this device tune state.

Abstract: This document describes techniques and apparatuses for small-screen movie-watching using a viewport. These techniques enable viewers to experience movies and other media programs using a small screen as a viewport to the movie rather than dramatically compressing or cropping the movie to fit the small screen. A viewer may select whatever portion of the movie imagery he or she desires to experience through the small screen at a size sufficient to perceive details of plot elements and an environment in which the plot elements interact. Thus, the viewer may follow plot elements central to the plot while also exploring the environment that provides context for these plot elements.

Abstract: A content platform that includes subscribable paid channels is provided. The content platform receives, via a user interface, a request of an end user to subscribe to a paid channel. The paid channel is one of a plurality of channels of the content platform and has dynamically changed content. The content platform requests, via the user interface, end user information that includes payment information of the end user. The content platform receives the end user information and creates a subscription to the paid channel for the end user based on the end user information. Abstract: A flexible method for cataloguing metadata makes it possible for users of digital media systems to define the set of metadata tags that best describe recordings within each genre. Tagging recordings with appropriate metadata facilitates selection of a desired recording. In addition, flexible metadata tags minimize the display area required to present information essential to selecting the desired recording. A flexible method for specifying a Play Queue makes it possible to queue items comprising Collections of Tracks. Tracks can be collected according to various criteria. One type of Collection simply lists the desired Tracks from a single album. Other Collections specify Tracks based on a search of the catalog, a random selection from the catalog, or a previously saved list. Collections maintain their identity in the Play Queue, so users can easily modify or remove a Collection or change the sequence of Collections.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for selecting personalized content for a user, the method being performed by an evaluation tool instantiated on a computing device and comprising the evaluation tool. The evaluation tool creates a content selection rule for the user for finding and filtering content items, such as advertising content. The tool generates a content selection algorithm from the content selection rule for determining which content items to present to the user and presents the content item to the user based on the content selection algorithm and allows the user to interact with the presented content item. The tool also monitors the user's interaction with the presented content item for determining a modification of the content selection algorithm based on the user's interaction and presents the content item to the user based on the modified selection algorithm. The tool also enables the user to view and modify the selection rule and the content selection algorithm.

Abstract: The invention is directed to wireless systems comprising one or more beacons that each emits a triggering data packet, and one or more smart media guides which upon receipt of a triggering packet, access the indicated track of digital content that has been preloaded into memory, and play that track through a user output interface. In some embodiments, each smart media guide transmits an SMG Identifier signal that can be received, stored and analyzed for purposes of understanding user behavior. In some embodiments, a transmitted content packet is transmitted by an exognenous source (such as a beacon or server-driven transceiver), received by a smart media guide, and stored for subsequent play. Beacon-based systems can be further used to trigger such things as alarms, lights, and various mechanisms. The invention has applications in such fields as tourism, marketing, demographic analysis, health care, pet care, safety and security.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for identifying important video frames and segments in multimedia content such as a segmented compressed domain video. Video frames in a segment are analyzed to determine intensity, contrast, and motion values for the frames and their segments. The values among frames and segments are compared to identify one or more video segments likely to be important to a viewer. The systems and methods may additionally be augmented with audio data other characteristics associated with the video frames and segments analyzed.

Abstract: A personal media system and method that obtain content playback information of an end device is provided. Abstract: A method of playing back a moving picture in a portable terminal includes recognizing at least one playback list including moving picture files having file names that are more similar than a determined degree from among all moving picture files, identifying at least one overlap playback section formed of identical frames by analyzing frames of moving picture files included in the generated playback list, and upon playing one of the moving picture files included in the generated playback list, determining whether an auto-skipping function is activated, and playing the requested one of moving picture files based on the determination.

Abstract: Techniques described herein enable parents to establish a child-protective “kids zone” on a DVR. According to one technique, a DVR receives, from a parent, identities of DVD content items that the parent does not want children to view. The DVR maps the identities to a kids zone. During times that the DVR is set to operate in the kids zone operational mode, the DVR prevents itself from presenting any content from DVDs that are associated with the identities. At other times, during which the DVR is not set to operate in the kids zone operational mode, the DVR may allow itself to present DVD content that are associated with the identities.

Abstract: A multimedia system is disclosed, having a multimedia playback device and a multimedia information display device. The multimedia playback device is used to provide the multimedia content received from a multimedia transmission device.
