Abstract: A digital broadcast receiver capable of reducing time and labor to back-up contents recorded on one recording medium to another recording medium. A digital broadcast receiver extracts the contents recorded, out of order, on a first recording medium by an extracting unit according to the titles or genres recorded in a content list, and automatically rearranges the extracted contents using an arranging unit according to video-recording date-and-hour recorded in the content list, for recording as a content list onto a second recording medium (300).

Abstract: There is provided a method for automatically converting a media file for playback on a portable media player. The method includes specifying the type of the portable media player. If a stream of the media file is not capable of being played back by the portable media player, the stream is discarded. If a stream of the media file is capable of being played back and is supported by the portable media player, the stream is then directly copied to the player. Where a stream of the media file is capable of being played back and is not supported by the portable media player, the stream is then converted using a predetermined codec that is supported by the portable media player, the predetermined codec selected on a basis of playback quality, output file size and file conversion time. A corresponding system and software is also disclosed.

Abstract: Related arts have failed to realize a data recording/reproducing apparatus having the ability to, while video-audio data is being recorded in a first recording medium, notify a user of the number of second recording media to which the recorded video-audio data is equivalent. For breaking through the situation, a data recording/reproducing apparatus in accordance with the present invention includes a module which monitors an amount of video-audio data recorded in a first recording medium, and a module which displays an equivalent of the amount of recorded video-audio data in terms of the capacity of a second recording medium.

Abstract: A video downloading and scrubbing system for use with a web-based video editing system is provided. The downloading and scrubbing system includes: a scrubbing subsystem configured to: receive a user request for a portion of a video at a particular time index; create a data stream beginning containing video data relating to that time index in the video; and transmit the data; and a preview subsystem configured to provide a preview of video data to the user prior to the user completing the download of the video.

Abstract: A data recording apparatus (101) in the present invention includes: a data recording unit (13) that records and holds AV data supported by a copyright protection system permitting multiple times dubbing; a media recording unit (17) that performs dubbing or moving of the AV data between storage medium and the data recording unit (13), or between storage medium and different storage medium; a dubbing management information management unit (14) that manages dubbing management information for the AV data; and a media determination unit (18) that determines whether the storage medium is rewritable or non-rewritable based on the media type of storage medium. When the media recording unit (17) performs moving of the AV data from the data recording unit (13) to the storage medium, the dubbing management information management unit (14) updates the dubbing management information management unit (14) corresponding to the AV data according to the determination result.

Abstract: An information recording apparatus has several function units that perform: storing a time when dubbing is started, halting the dubbing temporarily when that the connecting cable is disconnected, and storing a dubbing time and the picture and audio data for a predetermined time period when the dubbing process is halted temporarily as temporary halt picture and audio information; and when the cable is reconnected, calculating a disconnection time of the cable, rewinding magnetic tape to a predetermined time period ahead of a presumed temporary halt position based on the disconnection time, reproducing the magnetic tape, determining whether a data pattern of the reproduced picture and audio data matches a data pattern of the temporary halt picture and audio information; and if they match, restarting the dubbing process from a position on the magnetic tape corresponding to final recording of the temporary halt picture and audio information.

Abstract: In the case of recording information in a DVD-R 1R as complying with a DVD video standard, which is configured with including at least of a VTS including a VOBS to be reproduced and VTSI and VMGI for controlling the reproduction of one or plural VTSs, the VTS is recorded in the DVD-R 1R. After the VTS is recorded, the tentative VMGI as the tentative control information corresponding to the recorded VTS to form the VMGI after that and to record this VMGI in the DVD-R 1R. Then, the generated tentative VMGI is recorded in the DVD-R 1R every when the VTS is recorded in the DVD-R 1R.

Abstract: In an audio/video (AV) recording process, an AV recording and playing system and method split an original video signal from a computer into a first original video signal and a second original video signal. The first original video signal is converted to a digital video signal. The second original video signal is displayed on a display device. An analog audio signal is captured and converted to a digital audio signal. The digital video signal and the digital audio signal are compressed to a compressed AV file. In an AV playing process, the system and method retrieve a compressed AV file and decompressed the file into a digital audio signal and a digital video signal. The digital video signal is converted to an analog video signal. The digital audio signal is converted to an analog audio signal.

Abstract: A problem with high resource-consuming managed copy is that simultaneous execution of the managed copy, which is controlled by a playback device, and a BD-J application, which is recorded on a recording medium, leads to a shortage in resources. Provided is a playback device that enables simultaneous execution of the managed copy and the BD-J application while preventing resource contention therebetween, by imposing an access limitation on the disc medium by causing the BD-J application to assume that the disc medium has been virtually ejected.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a recorder includes a recording module, a first display module, a selector, a second display module, and a processor. The recording module simultaneously records programs of a plurality of channels with a plurality of tuners. The first display module displays past program information indicating the programs simultaneously recorded by the recording module as past programs. The selector selects a past program, with respect to which a function related to the past program is to be performed, from the past programs indicated by the past program information. The second display module displays a selection screen containing an image for selecting the function to be performed with respect to the past program selected by the selector and information on the past program. The processor performs the function selected through the image on the selection screen with respect to the past program selected by the selector.

Abstract: Digital content, such as movies, television productions, and the like are processed and delivered based upon digital masters. The masters may be produced as the initial content, or any other content may be digitized to create the masters. An HD full aperture version is used to create a reduced set of masters that can be used to fill orders having a wide range of features and options. The HD full aperture version is combined with pan and scanned instructions parsed from original pan and scan files to permit automatic creation of the basic masters used to fill the orders, such as a letter box version, a 16:9 FF version, and a 4:3 FF version. The derived masters may be HD versions or SD versions. Upon receipt of orders, the proper version is selected and assembled with any other components that may be ordered by the customer. Ingestion of the masters may be delayed until order reception, and transcoding of the original master may also be delayed until order reception.

Abstract: A setting data copy method includes: HDMI-connecting a copy source digital AV device and a copy destination digital AV device of the same type as a type of the copy source digital AV device; sending, by the copy source digital AV device, at least part of setting data of the copy source digital AV device to the copy destination digital AV device by using a CEC command; and updating, by the copy destination digital AV device, setting data of the copy destination digital AV device based on the at least part of the setting data received from the copy source digital AV device.
