Abstract: A method of recording an audio visual asset using a predetermined script is disclosed. The audio visual asset may be partitioned into multiple audio visual segments and the audio visual segments may be edited by the application of a naming paradigm and/or a data tagging system. The audio visual segments may then be overlaid with audio visual variables. The audio visual segments may be compiled by uploading the audio visual segments into a multimedia synthesis compiler such that a variable final message compilation may be generated. A user may be messaged by selecting a message type from the variable final message compilation generated from the audio visual segments.

Abstract: Provided is a video reproduction method with a less difference between a target speed and an actual speed, when fast forward reproduction or fast rewind reproduction is performed on reproduction units consisting of a plurality of connected video units. When the video units are switched, in fast forward reproduction, as an elapsed jump time duration, a difference between a reproduction time of a last displayed picture in a source video unit and an end time of the source video unit is calculated (S104), then, as a remaining jump time duration, a value is calculated by subtracting the calculated elapsed jump time duration from the jump time duration corresponding to the designated speed (S105), then, as a reproduction start time, a time is calculated by adding the calculated remaining time duration to a start time of a destination video unit (S106), and the video is reproduced from the reproduction start time.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for editing digital picture computer files and digital audio computer files is disclosed herein. The apparatus and method for editing involves recording digital picture files and digital audio files. The digital picture files are copied onto a storage area network, and loaded onto a data storage system. Metadata from the digital picture files is uploaded onto a metadata database. The digital picture files on the storage area network are compressed. The compressed digital picture files are combined and synchronized with their corresponding digital audio files. These resultant digital files are then organized with their corresponding metadata. Once the metadata is incorporated into the resultant digital files, the files are edited and an editing decision list document as well as editing instructions are generated. Digital picture files are downloaded from the data storage system and conformed with digital audio files to produce the final media product.

Abstract: One embodiment provides a method of providing a controlled, customized playback of broadcast media, such as satellite radio or television. A subset of preferred channels is identified from a set of available broadcast channels. Each broadcast channel provides streaming content including media segments and, optionally, segment tags marking the beginning and end of each media segment. Complete media segments of the streamed content from the preferred channels are received and stored. A plurality of queues is maintained. The received content from each channel is placed in one of the queues in the order received. A customized playback sequence is generated. In generating the customized playback sequence, the queued media segments are selected according to channel-selection criteria, and each media segment is played back in its entirety.

Abstract: The disclosure addresses methods and apparatus for evaluating video presentations, particularly those displaying a succession of generally static images to identify the transition from a first image to a second image. The change of images facilitates the insertion of chapter markers which may be later used to index the content of the video and to facilitate navigation to selected content in the video. In one implementation, a difference measurement will be made between selected frames of the video presentation and evaluated with a statistical measure of the magnitude of the difference measurements, such as a Root Mean Square analysis. In preferred implementations, all processing will be done in the digital domain.

Abstract: A video bit stream with pictures comprising inter-coded content can be decoded upon receiving a channel start or file seek instruction. Pictures for beginning decoding and display of the bit stream can be selected based at least in part on one or more tuning parameters that set a preference between a latency of beginning to display video and possible defects in the displayed video. In some embodiments, to implement decoding upon a channel start or file seek, one or more types of data are generated for one or more pictures. For example, picture order counts are generated for pictures after a channel start or file seek operation. As another example, a decoder generates a frame number value that triggers re-initialization of a reference picture buffer before decoding after a channel start or file seek operation.
