Program Event Priority Patents (Class 386/293)
  • Patent number: 12135658
Abstract: A bus architecture is disclosed that provides for transaction queue reallocation on the modules communicating using the bus. A module can implement a transaction request queue by virtue of digital electronic circuitry, e.g., hardware or software or a combination of both. Some bus clogging issues that affect conventional systems can be circumvented by combining an out of order system bus protocol that uses a transaction request replay mechanism. Modules can evict less urgent transactions from transaction request queues to make room to insert more urgent transactions. Master modules can dynamically update a quality of service (QoS) value for a transaction while the transaction is still pending.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for automatically arranging media assets that are contextually related to a requested media asset for access prior to a start time of the requested media asset. In some embodiments, user input circuitry may receive a user request to access a media asset. Control circuitry may identify, by consulting a database, a first set of media assets that share a context with the requested media asset and were released prior to the release date of the requested media asset. Control circuitry may determine a subset of media assets of the first set of media assets by performing a comparison of each media asset of the first set of the media assets against a viewing history of the user. Control circuitry may access a user profile to determine a user constraint, and generate a recommendation for display based on a first aspect of the user constraint.

Abstract: A method for using inventory rules to identify devices of a computer network includes intercepting data traffic across one or more communication links of the computer network. The intercepted data traffic is analyzed to determine whether one or more of a plurality of inventory rules is satisfied by the intercepted data traffic. Each of the plurality of inventory rules comprises one or more conditions indicating the presence of a particular computer network device having a set of parameters. Each one of the plurality of inventory rules has a weighting factor value indicative of a priority of the application of a corresponding rule. The weighting factor value depends on previously identified devices. One or more devices of the computer network are identified using the weighting factor value of the one or more satisfied inventory rules.

  • Patent number: 10911838
Abstract: The disclosed examples encompass a media sending device, a media receiving device or a method of sending and reproducing media. For example, a media sending device may store media content and a meta-data file which includes media customization information to facilitate reproduction of the media content and an identifier that identifies a type of the information in the meta-data file. The media sending device then transmits an indication to the receiving device indicating that reproduction of the media content would be facilitated by use of the information in the meta-data file. The media sending device then transfers the media content and the meta-data file to the receiving device, in response to receiving a request for the media content from the receiving device. Then, the media receiving device reproduces the media content based at least in part on information extracted from the meta-data file, in a manner indicated by the identifier.

  • Patent number: 8687949
Abstract: Flexibility with respect to access and enjoyment of time shifted content in a content distribution network is provided, especially with regard to content not present on a DVR. A DVR accesses a network storage device over a network for particular portions of content not available on the DVR and the network storage device provides those missing portions. The user may then rewind and playback not only already locally stored content but also that content provided by the storage device. Content can be provided through faster-than-real-time transmissions such that the content is made available to the DVR prior to it being needed for rewind functionality or playback.

  • Patent number: 8660412
Abstract: Content receivers may be configured to simultaneously record multiple instances of content for multiple programming channels based on content provider instructions. Systems and methods utilize the content receivers to dynamically adjust recording parameters to account for instances of content with a start time and/or end time that falls outside of predefined recording parameters. The dynamically adjusted recording parameters may adjust the number of channels recorded and/or instances of content recorded. The content receiver may compare programming information received at a processing unit with predefined recording parameters and may dynamically adjust the recording parameters based on the comparison. The content receiver may generate on screen display content to include information on the dynamically adjusted recording parameters and may transmit the on screen display content to a content display device for notifying the user of the dynamically adjusted recoding parameters.

  • Patent number: 8644687
Abstract: In a recording apparatus (camcorders, optical disc recorders, etc.), the operator presses down priority designating buttons for designating priorities when recording input image data. An additional information generating section records and holds, in a storage section, additional information indicating priorities of data to be recorded (e.g., “low”, “intermediate”, “high”, or “highest”) which are set, depending on what priority designating button has been pressed down. If recordable remaining space in the storage section detected by the remaining amount detecting section falls below a predetermined value before the start of or during recording of data, a control section overwrites regions in order of priority of data which is stored therein, the lowest first, with data which is about to be recorded or is being recorded, based on the additional information generated by the additional information generating section.

Abstract: An interactive television system is provided in which a user can use an interactive television application to establish time-based settings. The user may set television program reminders, advance-order pay-per-view programs, schedule programs for recording and establish parental controls to prevent television viewing during certain times on certain channels. The interactive television application may be used to support video recorder functions such as personal video recorder functions implemented locally on the user's set-top box or other equipment and network-based video recorder functions implemented using servers at cable television headends and other network locations. The interactive television application may also be used to deliver video-on-demand content. When the user requests that video be delivered, conflicts may arise between the requested video delivery and the previously-established time-based settings.
