Abstract: One particular implementation of the present invention may take the form of a method and system for encoding and/or transmitting high definition 3-D multimedia content. In one embodiment, the frames for each eye of a viewer may be transmitted in a frame sequential manner to a display device, with an occasional null frame included in the frame stream. The null frame may be ignored by the display device and not presented to the viewer. In another embodiment, a synchronization signal may be presented to the display device to instruct the display device on how to display the frame-sequenced frames such that the 3-D effect of the content may be achieved. The synchronization signal may be presented to the display device embedded within the frames of the content or embedded within the null frames. The synchronization signal may also be provided out of band, such as on a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable.

Abstract: Method for playing back three-dimensional (3D) images includes inputting an original video file; decoding the original video file for obtaining a plurality of images corresponding to a plurality of frames; dividing each of the plurality of images into a plurality of dissected images according to an input format of the original video file; and merging the dissected images into a playback file. When the original video file is played, the dissected images of the playback file are read and rendered for playing back a corresponding 3D image. When playing back the original video file, the hardware system only performs simple tasks such as reading and rendering the dissected images, and does not require performing complicated tasks such as decoding and dividing images, consequently reducing system resources consumed and increasing playback efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8351768
Abstract: A media processing comparison system (“MPCS”) and techniques facilitate concurrent, subjective quality comparisons between media presentations produced by different instances of media processing components performing the same functions (for example, instances of media processing components in the form of hardware, software, and/or firmware, such as parsers, codecs, decryptors, and/or demultiplexers, supplied by the same or different entities) in a particular media content player. The MPCS receives an ordered stream of encoded media samples from a media source, and decodes a particular encoded media sample using two or more different instances of media processing components. A single renderer renders and/or coordinates the synchronous presentation of decoded media samples from each instance of media processing component(s) as separate media presentations. The media presentations may be subjectively compared and/or selected for storage by a user in a sample-by-sample manner.

Abstract: A player decodes and renders encoded digital data received from an encoder. During processing, the player periodically monitors dropped frames as well as time spent. If the dropped frames are below a minimum, the player determines to signal the encoder to increase bit rate or frame rate by consulting a table. If the player determines to increase bit rate, the player signals accordingly. However, if the player determines to increase frame rate, the player first verifies that the spent time is below a minimum. To the contrary, if the dropped frames are both above the minimum and a first maximum but not a second maximum, the player determines to signal the encoder to decrease bit rate or frame rate by consulting the table and signaling accordingly. However, if the dropped frames are above the second maximum, the player signals the encoder to decrease the frame rate without consulting the table.

Abstract: In a low-power device a runtime hands video capture and other markup language video objects to a video service, which renders them onto a shared surface. An application-specific compositor manipulates the shared surface, e.g., by texture wrapping or animation. A system compositor composites the manipulated shared surface with other data, such as rendered frames from other application-specific compositors and/or computer generated text. The device then displays the attendant rendered, manipulated, and composited video frames. In some cases, only a single copy of the shared surface is utilized. When the video object's shape, alignment, and opacity satisfy predetermined criteria, the video service renders the video object onto the shared surface using a hardware scaler; otherwise, rendering is done without using the hardware scaler.

  • Patent number: 8036517
Abstract: A video stream (for example, H.264 video) includes intra-encoded portions. Decoding an intra-encoded portion utilizes the result of decoding one or more other portions (called predecessors) in the frame. Frame reconstruction involves identifying a portion that has no predecessor portions that have not been decoded and then initiating decoding of the identified portion(s). When the decoding of a portion is substantially complete, then the remaining portions to be decoded are examined to identify portions that have no predecessors that have not been decoded. By carrying out this method, multiple portions may be decoded simultaneously. Each can be decoded on a different work entity, thereby increasing the rate of decoding of the overall frame. Because deblock filtering a predecessor destroys information needed in the intra-decoding of other portions, prefiltered predecessor information is stored in a buffer for subsequent use during intra-decoding, thereby facilitating simultaneous decoding of multiple portions.

Abstract: An image reproducing apparatus is connected to a display device via a video data transmitting unit and a file data transmitting unit and is driven by a battery. The image reproducing apparatus calculates a first electric power required to transmit video data to the display device and a second electric power required to transmit file data to the display device, and acquires a remaining amount of electric power in the battery. Then, the image reproducing apparatus judges whether the acquired remaining amount of electric power in the battery is equal to or larger than the first electric power, is equal to or larger than the second electric power but smaller than the first electric power, or is smaller than the second electric power, and determines whether the image data is to be transmitted as the video data or the file data.
