Further, high electrical power consumption, normally associated with on demand or instantaneous electric water heaters is reduced by powering only such of the heating elements as may be required to meet demand. In addition, the heaters of the present invention utilize innovative cartridge heating elements which drastically reduce maintenance time and expense by allowing for the removal and replacement of the spent or defective heating elements from the air side of the flange, as opposed to the wet side, thereby eliminating the need for draining or disassembling of the unit during servicing.

    Abstract: An electrode boiler comprising a container for containing water and electrodes within the container which serve to pass electrical current through such water and which are generally upright when the boiler is in use. Fill and drain valves are connected to the container to enable water to be fed to and drained from the container. An outlet of the container enables steam generated inside the container to pass out therefrom when the boiler is in use. A water level contact member is arranged to cause a signal to occur when the water in the container reaches a predetermined level. The boiler is provided with a store to store the value of an allowed time for water to boil away from the said predetermined level until the water is no longer in contact with the contact member. A timer is connected to time the actual time it takes for such boiling away to occur, and comparator is connected to the store and the timer to effect a comparison between the allowed time and the said actual time.

    Abstract: To provide a balanced supply of distilled water and undistilled hot water for a household, a condenser coil communicates at one end with a steam generator located above a hot water heater and at its other end well the holding tank of a distilled water system, with a condenser entering the hot water heater near the bottom. The steam generator power input matches the power needed to meet the recovery rate to satisfy undistilled hot water demand under normal conditions. The condenser includes a plurality of loops grouped together so a line drawn from top to bottom through them is no longer than 5 inches. The length of the loops is at least 6 inches and the tubes have inside diameters between 1/4 inch and 5 inches and a total area of at least 25 square inches. Near the outlet of the condenser, the tube bends upwardly by approximately a diameter to create a water holding portion in the lower most loop of the condenser to restrain condensate and maximize heat transfer.
