Abstract: The present invention has the technical effect of disinfecting an EDI device of a water purification system. The present invention may be applied to an EDI device having an internal chamber comprising ion exchange components. The internal chamber may also comprise a plurality of ion selective membranes positioned between the anode and the cathode compartments. As illustrated and described herein, embodiments of the present invention seek to sanitize the EDI device without sanitization chemicals or a water supply. Embodiments of the present invention disinfect the EDI device by applying electrical power. Here an electrical supply device heats the EDI device, through resistive heating of the internal chambers, to a sanitization temperature. The resistive heating is a result of ionic movement through the internal chamber. The friction that is created through the ionic movement increases the temperature within the internal chamber.
Abstract: In described embodiments, a hot liquid extraction system includes a brew chamber having a brew chamber upper end and a brew chamber lower end. A steam chamber is disposed below the brew chamber. A filtering base is removably inserted into the brew chamber. The filtering base has a diaphragm having a plurality of openings formed therein. The diaphragm is movable via fluid pressure between a first position in which the openings are open, thereby providing fluid communication between the brew chamber and the steam chamber and a second position in which the openings are closed, thereby precluding fluid communication between the brew chamber and the steam chamber.

An interchangeable air conditioning core is removably installed within the air plenum and interposed between the air inlet and air outlet such that air moving along an air pathway is forced to proceed through the interchangeable air conditioning core.
Abstract: A method is provided for interconnecting a single electrical heating element of a hot water heater to first and second AC electrical power sources. Typically, these first and second AC electrical power sources include a utility provided electrical power source and a renewable power source that generates AC power from DC power. The method includes operating a controller that selectively connects and disconnects the first and second power sources. If sufficient electrical power is available from the renewable power source, the utility provided electrical power source may be disconnected to preferentially utilize renewable energy.
Abstract: A radiant energy heating source for heating the sample during purge of analytes to the sorbent trap is disclosed. The radiant energy heat source may be provided with a filter to pass only certain spectra of visible light to the sample. A thermocouple is provided to monitor the temperature of the sample and provide feedback to the radiant energy heating source.
