Flexibe (e.g., Hose, Etc.) Patents (Class 392/472)
  • Patent number: 5454061
Abstract: A helically wound and helically ribbed plastic tubing incorporating an electrically conductive heating wire and an apparatus and method for making the tubing are disclosed. A plastic ribbon is wound about an axis into a tube with one edge of each lap overlapping and heat-bonded to an edge of the preceding lap as the tubing is rotated; a conductive wire is embedded in the ribbon; and a bead is applied and heat-sealed onto the tubing, encapsulating the conductive wire during rotation of the tubing, providing a unitary structure including a conductive wire integral to a flexible tubing having a corrugated crevice-free outside and a smooth inside. Coolant is applied to the tubing for cooling the unitary ribbon, wire and bead tubing and to assist in advancing the tubing along the axis.

  • Patent number: 5428706
Abstract: A tubular conduit for the transport of fluids under pressure includes a flexible outer tubular sheath, a group of stiffening reinforcements, a flexible inner tubular sheath or tube, and if applicable at least one intermediate flexible tubular sheath, and a heater in the form of electrically conductive wires, connected to an electric power source and releasing heat by Joule effect, said wires being arranged on the length of the conduit. Also a plurality of electrically conductive wires are arranged in at least one layer in which the wires are parallel to one another and spirally wound around the axis of the conduit, the layers of conductive wires being placed between two flexible tubular sheaths of the conduit, the conductive wires being noncontiguous to one another and each resting by surface contact on the underlying tubular sheath.

  • Patent number: 5381511
Abstract: A heatable hose assembly having a helically corrugated central polymer tube of polyether ether ketone wrapped with a layer of polymer tape. A means for heating the central polymer tube is arranged on the layer of high strength tape as is a means for monitoring and controlling the means for heating the central polymer tube. Surrounding the arrangement is a layer of thermal insulation and a protective jacket. The heatable hose assembly is of utility for use in systems for the monitoring of acid gases from emission stacks.

  • Patent number: 5289561
Abstract: This invention refers to an electric heating system for subsea flexible pipelines (13) including the circulation of an electric current which runs through the metallic armorings (31) of the flexible pipeline (13), generating energy and dissipating a certain amount of heat to the pipeline (13) and to the fluid contained inside same, maintaining the temperature differential between the environment and the production line, so as not to interrupt the fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 5287913
Abstract: A temperature control system for an adhesive application system in which adhesive is delivered from a pump to a nozzle for application in bead form to a part. The control system includes a hose assembly extending from the pump to the nozzle and including an inner hose for carrying the adhesive and an outer hose defining an annular space between the outer hose and the inner hose for passage of water in a direction opposite to the direction of flow of the adhesive; a water conditioner selectively heating and cooling the water; and a controller receiving a reference signal representing a desired temperature of the adhesive at the nozzle and an actual adhesive temperature signal provided by a temperature sensor sensing the temperature of the adhesive being delivered to the nozzle and operative to compare the signals and generate appropriate signals for control of the water conditioner in a sense to maintain the desired water temperature and thereby the desired adhesive temperature.

  • Patent number: 5150448
Abstract: A flow heater is provided for water in a machine which produces hot water. The machine includes a water tube having an inflow end for receiving water and an outflow end for dispensing hot water, and a heating tube connected to the water tube in a heat conductive manner. The heating tube is divided over its extent into a plurality of regions of different heating outputs for, respectively, intensely heating the water to below the boiling point in a first zone of the water tube adjacent the inflow end, followed by a less intense heating of the water to attain the boiling point in a second zone of the water tube, followed by an intense heating of the water until a vigorous formation of vapor bubbles occurs in a third zone of the water tube, and finally followed by a less intense heating of the water for reheating the water in a fourth zone of the water tube adjacent the outflow end.

  • Patent number: 5054106
Abstract: In a soldering system which utilizes a fine jet of very hot gas for heating the work point the hot air may impinge directly on the work point or it may heat a soldering tip from within whereby it may be used in a more conventional mode of soldering or desoldering. A regulated flow of gas to the heater of the soldering instrument may be somewhat preheated by passing along the leads carrying the electric power to the heating element. The same supply of air may also be used to cool the handle of the handle of the soldering instrument for operator comfort and safety. The temperature of the heating element is remotely electronically controlled by a time share use of the power leads as temperature sensing and feedback.

  • Patent number: 5022459
Abstract: A flexible hosing for circulation of a heat transfer fluid to effect heat exchange within a concrete or other type of slab. An inner wall comprising nylon, rayon or other similar material forms an inner wall of the hosing to resist corrosive attack by the heat transfer fluid. A locator wire is embedded within the hosing for transmission of a locating signal so that the position of the hosing within the slab may be accurately determined. The wire may also serve as an electrical resistance heating element should the heat transfer fluid become frozen, or should it be desired that the heat exchange system be operated without an external boiler or other heat source.
