Patent number: 5978549Abstract: A method for processing heating wire of aquarium heater and an aquarium heater made by the method. The method includes a step of prior to sealing the heating wire, coating the heating wire with a thin insulative voltage-resistant and heat-resistant layer, whereby even though the outer protective skin of the heater is broken and water infiltrates therethrough, the insulative layer can still effectively avoid leakage of electricity and ensure safety. The aquarium heater includes: a heating wire wound on a heat-resistant insulative medium, the heating wire being processed and coated with an insulative layer of vaseline prior to sealing; a conductive metal wire connected to two ends of the heating wire; and an outer insulative protective skin coated on the heating wire and the conductive wire.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1998Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Inventor: Wen-Hong Su

Patent number: 5930459Abstract: Electrical resistance heating elements are provided which are useful in heating fluid mediums, such as air and water. The heating elements include an element body having a supporting surface and a resistance wire wound onto the supporting surface which is connected to a pair of terminal end portions. Disposed over the resistance wire, and over most of the supporting surface, is a thermally-conductive polymeric coating which hermetically encapsulates and electrically insulates the resistance wire from the fluids to be heated. This thermally-conductive polymer coating has a thermal conductivity value of at least about 0.5 W/m .degree.K. Improved properties are preferably provided by ceramic powder, such as Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and MgO, and glass fiber additives.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1996Date of Patent: July 27, 1999Assignees: Energy Converters, Inc., Rheem Manufacturing CoInventors: Charles M. Patent number: 5919386Abstract: A purge manifold assembly, which can be used in a gas purged immersion heater, includes a housing having a vessel wall having an aperture extending therethrough. A purge manifold is located adjacent the vessel wall. The purge manifold includes an aperture extending therethrough and colinear with the vessel wall aperture, a bore extending in the purge manifold, in a direction approximately normal to the purge manifold aperture, and a port communicating the bore with the purge manifold aperture. A fitting body extends into the vessel wall aperture and the purge manifold aperture. The fitting body includes a longitudinally extending through bore and a port communicating with the through bore. The port also communicates with the port of the purge manifold. In this way, a purge gas is allowed to flow through a sheath enclosing a heater wire held in the housing of the gas purged immersion heater.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1997Date of Patent: July 6, 1999Assignee: Lufran IncorporatedInventor: Joseph E.
