Patent number: 5953547Abstract: A camera uses a film cartridge, which has an information recording disk which is rotatable integrally with a cartridge spool shaft and represents information inherent to a film, and feeds the film leading end portion from the cartridge by using a driver. A data detector reads the film information from the disk of the cartridge loaded in the camera. A nonvolatile memory stores the film information read from the disk. When the cartridge is loaded into the camera, the camera feeds the film leading end portion from the cartridge, reads the film information, and writes the read information in the memory. Another camera uses a film having two perforations per frame. The moving amount of the film fed by a motor controller is detected by a film driven roller rotation detector. A perforation on the film is detected by the perforation detector. Prior to at least the driving operation of the motor controller, information indicating the film feeding operation is stored in an EEPROM.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1997Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: Olympus Optical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yuji Imai, Takashi Fujii

Patent number: 5915137Abstract: In a film feed device using a film having two perforations per frame, a perforation width and a perforation interval which are detected by one perforation sensor during a film feed operation are measured as times by timers in a microcomputer or as film moving amounts by a perforation detection circuit. When the time or the film moving amount measured as this perforation interval is less than the value obtained by multiplying the perforation width by a predetermined value, the film feed operation is stopped by a motor driving circuit and a motor. With this operation, even if the film position deviates from a predetermined position at the start of a film feed operation, the film can be accurately aligned with a correct position by using one perforation sensor.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1997Date of Patent: June 22, 1999Assignee: Olympus Optical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Satoshi Miyazaki, Satoshi Kawakami

Patent number: 5903784Abstract: There is provided a battery presence/absence detection mechanism (80) which operates according to the presence/absence of a battery (4) in a battery housing (3). When the battery (4) does not exist in the battery housing (3) or is removed from the same during the course of advancement of film, a battery presence/absence detection lever (801) and first and second battery presence/absence transmission levers (802, 803) operate so as to pivot a first winding lock lever (701) of a double winding prevention mechanism (70) to a position where it prevents the pivotal movement of a ratchet pawl (202) in a first direction. The double winding prevention mechanism (70) is attracted to and held in a reset state in which a film advance lever (10) cannot be actuated, by a magnet (703B) of a lock control means (703) via a second winding lock lever (702). It is possible to prevent wasteful advancement of film and to enable stable advancement of film even if a battery is at the end of its life or is removed from a camera.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1997Date of Patent: May 11, 1999Assignee: Asahi Kogaku Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Masakatsu Hori

Patent number: 5842066Abstract: A film feed control apparatus feeds film with an electrical feeding mechanism in a film feeding direction and stops the film at predetermined positions. The film includes a plurality of photo frames. A predetermined number of perforations having edges at leading and trailing sides of the film are defined at predetermined positions at the photo frames. An edge detector detects edges of the perforations of the film as the film is fed in the feeding direction. A physical amount detector detects a physical amount that relates to an amount of film that is fed from a time when the film feeding starts to a time when an edge of a predetermined perforation is detected. The physical amount detector also detects a physical amount that relates to an amount of film that is fed from the time when the edge of the predetermined perforation is detected to a time when another edge is detected.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1996Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: Nikon CorporationInventors: Toshiyuki Nakamura, Youichi Yamazaki

Patent number: 5842061Abstract: When an operation such as the operation of the shutter release button or the closing of the cover to the film container compartment is performed, any operation such as charging that was underway is stopped once and checking of the battery voltage level is performed with reference to reference levels, wherein it is determined whether or not any such operation was underway when either of said operations was performed, and if any such operation was underway, that operation is stopped once, and the battery voltage level is checked with reference to reference levels that are reduced by a preset amount. Consequently, an accurate check of the battery voltage level may be performed with regard to the battery voltage that had fallen due to the carrying out of such operation but that is rising to the original voltage level due to that operation being stopped.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1997Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: Minolta Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hidekazu Nakajima, Makoto Kato

Patent number: 5737649Abstract: A camera powered by a battery has a first memory area for storing first data used in operating the camera and for retaining the first data irrespective of a power source interruption in the camera, and a second memory area powered by the battery for storing second data which is dependent upon the first data. A power interruption in the camera, such as occurs when the battery is exhausted or replaced, is detected by comparing the first data stored in the first memory area with the second data stored in the second memory area. After detection of a power interruption, the camera is initialized and the first data stored in the first memory area is then copied into the second memory area. Since the first memory area and the second memory area are compared each time the camera is activated, the state of the battery can be reliably checked.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1995Date of Patent: April 7, 1998Assignee: Seiko Precision Inc.Inventors: Yoshiyuki Iwamatsu, Isamu Ishii, Shinichi Endo

Patent number: 5721987Abstract: This camera performs battery checking which corresponds to the respective photographing modes at the time of presetting the various photographing modes. This battery check calculates an added electrical quantity between an electrical quantity consumed for 5 minutes, during which an auto-power off mechanism is operated in a state where a photographing mode is set and an electrical quantity required for the time from the start of the photographing under this photographing mode to completion of the photographing under this photographing mode in association with the selected photographing mode. Then, the added electrical quantity thus calculated is compared with a residue of the battery for a camera power source, and, only when the residue of the battery exceeds the added electrical quantity, presetting of the photographing mode is permitted.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: Fuji Photo Optical Co., Ltd.Inventor: Katsuji Ozawa

Patent number: 5666572Abstract: A camera, which uses a film cartridge having a film exposure status display, comprises an E2PROM. The E2PROM stores the fact that the film status determination operation is underway when film status determination operation is underway. When a power supply is removed while the film status determination is operating and then the power supply is mounted, the camera operates an initial process. The film exposure status display is set in `exposed` because the E2PROM holds that the film status determination operation is underway. A camera is .provided that deems the film in the film cartridge to have been exposed and does not perform exposure if the power supply is cut off while the determination of the film status of the film in the film cartridge mounted in the camera is underway.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1995Date of Patent: September 9, 1997Assignee: Minolta Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kenji Tsuji, Yasuaki Serita, Toshihito Kido, Hiroyuki Okada
