  • Patent number: 8200075
Abstract: A camera-based mobile communication device includes a light sensor, a camera module, a flashlight, and a micro-processing unit (MPU). The light sensor is operable to detect a brightness value of an external light source. The camera module is operable to photograph an image. The flashlight is operable to generate a flash. The MPU is electrically connected to the light sensor, the camera module, and the flashlight. The MPU includes a comparison module, a face recognizing module, and a flashlight control module. The comparison module is operable to compare the brightness value with a threshold brightness value. The face recognizing module is operable to determine whether there exists a facial feature in the image. The flashlight control module is operable to turn on the flashlight when the detected brightness value is greater than the threshold brightness value and the facial feature is recognized from the image.

Abstract: Provided is a method and apparatus for measuring a distance between an object and a user using a camera module. According to the method, when the camera module is driven, a zooming function is performed to examine whether an image is formed on an image device. When the zooming function is completed, a focusing function is performed to examine whether focusing is adjusted. When focusing is adjusted, a focal length “f” and a distance “b” between a lens and the image device are calculated. Thereafter, a distance “a” between an object and a user is calculated and displayed using a lens Equation. Since a distance between a desired object and a user can be measured only using a zoom function and a focusing function of an existing camera module without a separate distance measurement device, the distance between the desired object and a user can be easily measured without increase in a volume of an apparatus or manufacturing costs.

Abstract: The table 200 represents that only small dots should be formed in the range Cd1 of relatively small tone values. In the range Cd2, the production rate of small dots gradually decreases, while the production rate of medium dots increases. In the range Cd3, the production rate of small dots and medium decreases, while the production rate of large dots increases. Consequently, small dots, medium dots, and large dots are intermingled, with the proportion of large dots increasing in association with higher tone values. According to the present invention, printing is able to be implemented while switching among dot apportionment tables depending on the object represented in one set of image data, and printing using small dots is able to be implemented efficiently in areas where low grainy appearance is required, namely areas corresponding to human faces.

Abstract: A stun gun is disclosed having a firing mechanism, and also having a camera for automatically capturing post-firing images after the firing mechanism is activated. The post-firing image is automatically and digitally marked, or partly marked, to indicate when the camera was used. A method of gun operation is also presented, along with a system that includes both the gun and a gun holder. Removal of the gun from the gun holder may activate the camera's visual or audio collection capabilities, and further actions such as removal of a gun safety may heighten activation of the camera. The camera's visual collection capabilities include viewing both the target and also the user of the gun.

Abstract: An optical device directs light from a light source to a region of space, such as the field of view of a camera when the optical device is used as a camera flash unit. This device includes a first optical element which converges light from the light source towards an inner portion of the region to be illuminated and a second optical element which diverges part of the light from the first element outwardly towards an outer portion of the region to be illuminated so as to achieve adequate central illumination with improved uniformity of illumination across the region to be illuminated. The second optical element may have a concave multiple-faceted surface comprising plane facets in the shape of an open-base inverted truncated pyramid, contiguous sector-shaped facets, at least some of which are concave, or a face divided into an elongate portion disposed between first and second diverging portions.

Abstract: An image sensing and printing device includes a housing. An area image sensor is positioned on the housing for sensing a viewed image to be printed on media and for generating pixel data representing the viewed image. A printing mechanism is arranged on the housing. The printing mechanism defines a media feed path and includes a printhead assembly that includes a pagewidth printhead having at least one printhead chip that spans the media feed path. A feed mechanism feeds media along the media feed path so that the printhead can carry out a printing operation on the media. A processor is positioned in the housing. The processor includes processing circuitry. An image sensor interface is connected to the processing circuitry for receiving pixel data from the image sensor, converting the pixel data into an internal format and writing the converted pixel data to the processing circuitry. The processing circuitry is configured to convert the pixel data to print image data.
